th e ßrown and white lehigh university bethlehem pennsylvania vol 96 — no 44 tuesday april 16 1985 215 861-4181 forum elects leaders passes evaluation plan bylizvarga associate professor of chemical engineering andrew klein and junior judy lannin were selected forum xvi co-chairmen at yesterday's meeting of forum xv and xvi neither klein nor lannin were opposed for the positions and thus the nominations never came to a vote at the beginning of the meeting there was no nominee for the faculty co-chairman position and a caucus of the faculty forum members was called during the meeting the 10-minute caucus resulted m the decision to nominate klein for the co-chairman position the faculty also decided to retain the traditional student-faculty co-chairmen structure at first when there was no faculty nominee forum xv co-chairman jeff brotman raised the question of whether to have a student chairman with a faculty vice chairman or two students m the positions rather than the usual student-faculty chairmen junior patricia plympton was elected as forum xvl's secretary-treasurer again no other members were nominated for the post juniors ed stark and diane mover were elected student trustee representatives while english professor peter beidler and assistant theater professor annie laurie wheat were elected as the faculty representatives to the board forum xv unanimously voted to pass all the recommendations from the subcommittee on student evaluation of instruction which call for anonymous student evaluations of in structors and courses m every lecture lab recitation and seminar course also extensive and representative student evaluations of any candidate for tenure will be included the dean of students will serve as an om judy lannin andrew klein stationary ib&w photo by jim burnfct either they were late for night classes or parking problems on lower campus just drove them crazy nobody knows why a carfull of moravian students ended up this way m front of christmas-saucon last week but next time we hope they take a campus map with them lawyer lectures greeks on hassles of hazing bylorisoderlind asst managing editor hazing is a product of ego more than anything else dave westol assistant prosecuting attorney general for kalamazoo michigan said westol gave his talk hazing on trial on sunday afternoon m the university center to the group of predominantly fraternity and sorority members lehigh's interfraternity council defines hazing as any action taken or situation created intentionally to produce mental or physical discomfort greek organizations have lost many thousands of members over the years because of hazing chap ters westol said people get the impression 4 if they're greek they haze westol is vice president of the high council of theta chi national fraternity and has taken a special interest m the hazing phenomenon at fraternities and sororities across the country according to coordinator of greek affairs mike boyd it is an interesting coincidence that westol's visit on campus coincided with the recent hazing charges against delta sigma phi fraternity but his appearance has been on the books for awhile handel ed b&w photo by george deligiannis tenor stephen oosting soloed at sunday's majestic performance of george frideric handel's messiah by the lehigh university choir to a near capacity audience m packer chapel the spring vespers program was m celebration of the 300 th anniversary of the composer's birth rhc election results tallied the residence halls council rhc has elected junior susanne teklits president for next year ac cording to this year's rhc president marjorie paine teklits served as rhc vice president last year and as treasurer the year before freshman mamie lieberman was elected new vice president for the position of treasurer junior karen fiedler won for the second year m a row and sophomore sherrece sands was voted m as secretary freshman andrew inglesby won the post of activities coordinator in class replacement elections recently bob chase was named sophomore class vice president see forum page 5 see hazing page 4
