fraternity judiciary committee i jc has recommended the dissolution of delta sigma phi fraternity to dean of students john smeaton after finding the group guilty of hazing charges charges were brought against the fraternity after a march 1 incident involving a group of delta sig brothers who kidnapped pledge adam hart well drove him several miles into bethlehem township and left him m an intoxicated state to find his way back to campus the fraternity plead guilty to the charges at an earlier ijc hearing and the sanctions were made at the committee's april 2 meeting bethlehem township police found hartwell near the intersection of willow park road and freemansburg avenue and charged him with public drunkeness and underaged drinking hartwell was given several citations and fines hartwell commented that he did not press the charges against delta sig and that he feels the ijc s recommendation for dissolution is really ridiculous i didn't feel i was hazed at all the recommendation must be ac cepted by smeaton before becoming an official sanction smeaton said he has no idea at this point whether he will approve of the ijc's findings and that he will contact alumni delta sig nationals undergraduates and anyone with pertinent information m the case before making a decision smeaton explained that he wants to get the full picture so that the ultimate decision is one that's informed he said he plans to conclude his in vestigation by the first week m may delta sig vice president ai mackinnon said the fraternity had no idea what might happen after smeaton reviews the charges we're still optimistic mackinnon said adding we're going to wait for the final decision before taking any actions if the recommendation for dissolution is accepted mckinnen stated investigator mark diluzio the bethlehem globe times stated that the se-wy-cp volunteer fire co lower saucon township police and campus police responded to the fire if left undetected the fire could have become potentially large since the woods surrounding sayre park was very dry at the time it was a very dangerous situation diluzio said m an interview wednesday if the fire had been left unattended it could have grown to the point where it may have en dangered the lives of the people m the fraternities diluzio stated that the arsons may have been drug related heft and heffner were charged last week with setting fires that destroyed the frank casilio and sons warehouse m bethlehem and three barns m the area between march 22 and 31 the suspects were committed to nor thampton county prison with bail set at 135,000 for each a preliminary hearing is scheduled for april 17 heffner was a member of the han-le-co volunteer fire company m hanover township lehigh county heft sac publicity chairman dave greenbaum is now running unopposed for the office of sac vice president according to a source within sac who spoke on condition of anonymity the impeachment attempt came after greenbaum allegedly refused to handle part of the publicity for lehigh lafayette week greenbaum however vehemently denied the allegations the problem he said revolved around a dispute he had with another sac member it was one person holding a personal grudge against me according to the source greenbaum at the last minute said that he was too busy to handle the publicity for the week's events at the same time however he was selling lafayette sucks t-shirts for his own profit greenbaum said that the only thing he did not have time for was writing one publicity letter but when he asked another sac officer to handle it she felt that 1 had thrown it on her out of spite selling t-shirts had nothing to do with it sac vice president lynn m miller coordinated the effort to impeach greenbaum according to the sac constitution any officer may call for the impeachment of another her effort proved unsuccessful however when greenbaum's fraternity brothers of sigma alpha mv formed a voting bloc which kept him m of the 14 elected members of sac eight including greenbaum are sammy brothers according to the source he greenbaum is a sammy and sammys stick together that's why we couldn't im peach him they voted to keep him m sac president lisa broder refused to comment on the circumstances surrounding the impeachment attempt but admitted that the sammy majority played a major
