flying cadets by the third corps area board of the u s army it was announced fri day at air base headquarters langley field va the seniors are as follows gor don l brandt bus frank b ell iot ch e john b rush bus raymond m smith bus carl l stieg i e charles e west m e the junior is charles a gibson bus these men were among those examined by officers of the third corps area nov 24-28 when they visited lehigh of the seven ell iot rush and west are enrolled in the air flight theory and training course now being offered at lehigh and the allentown - bethlehem airport none of these students will called for duty however until they have completed their college courses there is a general trend toward a slight increase in height of le high students according to dr raymond c bull director of the students health service this state ment is based on data obtained from physical examinations which are given each semester the first time this data was tabulated in september 1927 the average height of the students was 68.5 in ches and the average weight was 143.7 pounds in september 1936 the last time this data was calcu lated the average height was 69.0 inches and the average weight was 145.75 pounds this data illustrates the general trend but the figures fluctuate ev ery year and therefore the above data does not mean that the aver age height of students increases 5 inches every 10 years these fig ures were practically the same ev ery year and indicate that they do not vary a great deal from the present average height and weight the test to detect color blind ness according to dr bull is rap id and also effective as a number of students are found who are not able to distinguish various colors persons who are farsighted are often not aware of it and many of these cases are discovered through examination however most per sons who are nearsighted or have astigmatism are aware of it and have taken corrective measures this september 125 students were called back due to defective vision there are comparativlev few cases of faulty hearing the total number being under one per cent of the student body the average student's teeth are also in very good condition and show that care is taken during depression years there was a noticeable drop in care of teeth and their condition was worse at that time the physical examination has a good record as practically all the students that were recommended by dr bull on this basis passed the civil aeronautics authority physi cal examination aobut 30 per cent of the student body were called back because of various defects which were discovered during the examination according to dr bull the most important need in the health ser vice at the present time is the mantoux test as pulmonary tuber culosis is a danger to college stu dents this test shows up tubercu losis which the individual had at any time during his life in any part of his body this test would be given to all students entering lehigh all students showing a ne gative mantoux would be given another test in their senior year all students showing a positive mantoux would get an x-ray of the lungs and yearly check ups would be made will dance here have been accepted as flying cadets by the third corps area board of the u s army it was announced fri day at air base headquarters langley field va the seniors are as follows gor don l brandt bus frank b ell iot ch e john b rush bus raymond m smith bus carl l stieg i e charles e west m e the junior is charles a gibson bus these men were among those examined by officers of the third corps area nov 24-28 when they visited lehigh of the seven ell iot rush and west are enrolled in the air flight theory and training course now being offered at lehigh and the allentown - bethlehem airport none of these students will called for duty however until they have completed their college courses there is a general trend toward a slight increase in height of le high students according to dr raymond c bull director of the students health service this state ment is based on data obtained from physical examinations which are given each semester the first time this data was tabulated in september 1927 the average height of the students was 68.5 in ches and the average weight was 143.7 pounds in september 1936 the last time this data was calcu lated the average height was 69.0 inches and the average weight was 145.75 pounds this data illustrates the general trend but the figures fluctuate ev ery year and therefore the above data does not mean that the aver age height of students increases 5 inches every 10 years these fig ures were practically the same ev ery year and indicate that they do not vary a great deal from the present average height and weight the test to detect color blind ness according to dr bull is rap id and also effective as a number of students are found who are not able to distinguish various colors persons who are farsighted are often not aware of it and many of these cases are discovered through examination however most per sons who are nearsighted or have astigmatism are aware of it and have taken corrective measures this september 125 students were called back due to defective vision there are comparativlev few cases of faulty hearing the total number being under one per cent of the student body the average student's teeth are also in very good condition and show that care is taken during depression years there was a noticeable drop in care of teeth and their condition was worse at that time the physical examination has a good record as practically all the students that were recommended by dr bull on this basis passed the civil aeronautics authority physi cal examination aobut 30 per cent of the student body were called back because of various defects which were discovered during the examination according to dr bull the most important need in the health ser vice at the present time is the mantoux test as pulmonary tuber culosis is a danger to college stu dents this test shows up tubercu losis which the individual had at any time during his life in any part of his body this test would be given to all students entering lehigh all students showing a ne gative mantoux would be given another test in their senior year all students showing a positive mantoux would get an x-ray of the lungs and yearly check ups would be made
