interfraternity council after the monthly meeting among the reasons for selecting the empire as a site according to russell is its capacity of 6,000 per sons and its large parking space the date of the ball had been pre viously set for feb 10 it was also announced that the band will be signed up by the end of the week although several bands are now being considered the two foremost bands discussed at the meeting were jimmy dor sey's and glen gray's fraternities will be polled during the middle of the week in order to determine which band is more favored al though all bands will be seyfert who had been bedfast since oct 7 was 58 years of age he was a native of strausstown berks county in point of service dr seyfert was one of the oldest members of the lehigh faculty he completed 35 years teaching at the univer sity last june having accepted a position as instructor in electrical engineering upon his graduation from lehigh as head of his class in electrical engineering in june mo laboratory manual dr seyfert was at one time president of the wissamaking cor poration bethlehem and was for years engineer for the blue moun tain electric company bethel he served as secretary-treasurer of this company from 1917-27 he was also a director of the strausstown national bank at the time of the planning and then the erection of packard labor atory on the lehigh campus dr seyfert was one of the consultants he was born in strausstown march 19 1881 the son of jacob wallace and cassie m reber seyfert he received the b s de gree from kut7,town normal school now kutztown state teach ers college in 1900 and the e e degree from lehigh in 1904 in 1909 he received his m s degree from lehigh and in 1932 the degree of doctor of science from massa chusetts institute of catholic university of america and joseph quinn of pittston 34 national alumni secretary were present at the council meeting mr kirchner international president of pax romana organi zation of catholic students and alumni which maintains branches in 45 different countries reported on the 18th world congress of pax romana held recently in the na tion's capitol and new york city fifteen williams prizes are being offered this year to seniors writing dissertations in the five fields of business administration english history and government philoso phy and psychology awards of 75 50 and 25 will be given for theses submited in each field the 50 awards having been added to those given in past years by a vote at the september faculty meeting seniors who are competing have been advised to begin work on their papers which are due next year students writing similar dis sertations as required senior work in their field of major study may submit this work for both gradua tion requirements and the williams prize competition dr stanley s seyfert head of the department of electrical engin eering died of coronary sclerosis at 7 35 a m yesterday at his home 55 west market street professor seyfert who had been bedfast since oct 7 was 58 years of age he was a native of strausstown berks county in point of service dr seyfert was one of the oldest members of the lehigh faculty he completed 35 years teaching at the univer sity last june having accepted a position as instructor in electrical engineering upon his graduation from lehigh as head of his class in electrical engineering in june of 1904 he leaves his wife mrs helen arnold beam seyfert and his mo ther mrs cassie mahala reber seyfert of strausstown funeral services will be held at 1 p m wednesday from the home bishop frank vv . sterrett and the rev merrill m moore pastor of trinity episcopal church will offi ciate members of the electrical en gineering department faculty will be pallbearers interment will be in the family plot at strausstown held several patents dr seyfert who was widely known in his profession and throughout the lehigh valley held several patents on devices in his field was the author of numerous papers ana co-author of a labora tory manual and was active in engineering and other societies at the time of his death he was chair man of the lehigh valley section of the american institute of electri cal engineers he was past president of the torch club of the lehigh valley a member of the engineers club of the lehigh valley past master of the h stanley goodwin lodge f & a m a member of bethlehem rotary and a member of the bach choir from its founding until 1927 he was also a member of the american institute of electrical engineers the institute of radio engineers the society for the pro motion of engineering education tau beta pi eta kappa nu and sigma xi patents held by dr seyfert in cluded several on single phase commutator motors on electric lo comotives and on rectification and inversion of a c and d c cur rents wrote many papers among his research and writings were numerous papers published by the american institute of elec trical engineers included were synchronous mechanical recti fier inverter i and with n s hibshman and d c bomberger synchronous mechanical rectifier inverter ii with franklin and esty both former professors at le high he was co-author of dyna mo laboratory manual dr seyfert was at one time president of the wissamaking cor poration bethlehem and was for years engineer for the blue moun tain electric company bethel he served as secretary-treasurer of this company from 1917-27 he was also a director of the strausstown national bank at the time of the planning and then the erection of packard labor atory on the lehigh campus dr seyfert was one of the consultants he was born in strausstown march 19 1881 the son of jacob wallace and cassie m reber seyfert he received the b s de gree from kut7,town normal school now kutztown state teach ers college in 1900 and the e e degree from lehigh in 1904 in 1909 he received his m s degree from lehigh and in 1932 the degree of doctor of science from massa chusetts institute of technology his service at lehigh included these steps instructor 1904-09 as sistant professor 1909-14 associate professor 1914-28 and professor since 1928 since 1932 he was di rector of the curriculum
