those in engineering or business are faced with choices of courses major and career we must start to build an environment within the college that will more consciously provide a sense of sup port lor our students the report states the process for revising the advising system was started three years ago according to william newman chair man of the department of psychology and member of the arts and science subcommittee on freshman advising system an evaluation was done during the 1979-80 academic year by the college policy committee which revealed that students felt they did not meet with advisers enough and that they were dis satisfied with the meetings according to newman with the new system newman said he hopes it will improve the quality of life fora student in the college and also help the college establish an identity for itself independent of business and engineering " professor of government and sub committee member edward morgan said i think it's a very exciting change that ought to achieve a few things . . first it should give a better introduction to what it means to be in a liberal arts curriculum second he added it should develop see new page 10 forum reduction ratified 1 percent of students vote students in the usual manner until they declared majors while also receiving a new group of 20-25 students it certainly will be an improvement oyer the preseot provision introducing a one-credit pass fail course arts 1 which will be taught by the adviser to his advisees at a weekly two-hour session after the course these faculty would continue to advise their taylor residents angered over tile-replacement cost by kathy goldstein forum xiii's proposed constitu tional amendment calling for a size reduction of the body was ratified tuesday at the all-university convo cation and will be adopted by forum xiv faculty members present at the convocation voted unanimously in favor of the amendment while the student vote passed with an 84 percent majority a simple majority of each vote was needed for ratification the forum's new constitution changes the number of faculty and student voting members from 60 to 30 each the number of
