minorities have been initiated by a few organizations on cam pus such as the black students union bsu the forum and a university committee on minority retention the bsu has formed a minority recruiting committee to present lehigh university to more minority stu dents through viewbooks pamphlets and other programs according to vince hines 85 committee chairman the viewbooks which will come out this spring include information of par ticular interest to minorities as well as general campus information it will also contain interviews with minority students the bsu also plans to sponsor a spring weekend for minorities the weekend would have workshops set up for pros pective students and would also give them a chance to talk with the minority students at lehigh lehigh university brown neville lounge wednesday night the report noted university students are somewhat less able and signifi cantly less oriented to liberal education values than the highly selective private university sample used by the american council on education ace which includes brandeis university california institute of technology duke johns hopkins northwestern princeton rice stanford tulane and lehigh uni versities it added however that uni versity women are more similar to students at these schools than university men on the whole one way to improve the see report page 3 the verbal part of the sat also a more equal division of men and women at the university would furnish a more natu ral social atmosphere the report said the report was completed by edward morgan former chairman of the arts and science policy committee and asso ciate professor of government martin richter chairman of the policy commit tee and associate professor of psychol ogy and zdenek slouka former chairman of the admissions sub committee and professor of interna tional relations the college policy committee proposal is based on this report guilty kappa sig receives social disciplinary probation her while she was under the influence of alcohol into the sleeping quarters of kappa sigma house and there engaging in sexual activity with her the fraternity was also found guilty of a second charge of intentionally or recklessly inflicting emotional distress for acts committed on the evening of sept 17 the morning of sept 18 and thereafter at the hearing university case officer robert cohen assistant dean of students asked the hearing panel to close the hearing he cited a request of the plaintiff with which he concurred that the hearing be closed since it could adversely affect the reputation of the plaintiff regardless of the outcome the hearing panel voted unanimously to close the remainder of the hearing social probation prohibits the frater nity from holding any social events with the exception of a cocktail party on par ents weekend by jim creedon kappa sigma fraternity has been found guilty by the university commit tee on discipline of sexual harassment and the infliction of emotional distress as the result of an incident at the chapter house on sept 17 the committee ruled at a hearing on nov 23 that the fraternity be placed on both social and disciplinary probation for the period of jan 1 1983 through dec 31 1983 in its decision the committee stated neither the committee nor the univer sity community can condone such acts when committed by an individual we find it especially difficult to understand them when they are committed by a number of individuals who have a corpo rate responsibility under the charter of their fraternity according to the decision the frater nity was found guilty of sexual harass ment by subjecting a person to unwanted sexual attention 1 by taking by herb fischer 1 : 1 ratio proposed for fall 1 983 arts freshmen women applicants to the university's college ot arts and science ore btutistl cally more desirable than male appli cants and should therefore comprise close to 50 percent of its entering class by fall 1983 according to a college policy committee proposal the proposal followed a june 1982 report on admissions to the college of arts and science which stated that women applicants are more likely to
