percent increase over 1981-82's sum of 51,353,070 the tuition from all student sources for 1982-83 is projected at 37,029,600 this would mean an increase of 5,738,300 or 18.3 percent over 1981 82s budget sum of 31,291,300 the expenditures relating to the pro grams and services of the educational and general budget are projected at 55,759,390 an increase of 15.5 percent over the amount for 1981-82 the instruc tion budget which includes the universi ty's three undergraduate colleges the graduate school of education summer session and several other supporting programs is projected at 21,024,970 for 1982-83 this represents a 14.4-percent increase over 1981-82 also expenditures for academic support which include the library academic computing centen nial school and general treasurer pointed out that the under graduate financial aid revenue only increased approximately 4.5 percent due to the decrease in federal support about 1 million normally undergraduate financial aid revenue would have increased approximately 16 percent he said the 1982-83 total operating budget is 74,010,670 which is 9 591.220 greater than the previous year's budget of 64,619,450 the operating budget includes three major categories educa tional and general which are academic and administrative functions financial aid which includes student grants and auxiliary enterprises which are the cost centers such as residence halls the operating budget increases 14.5 hoffman incident loads to university charges the total financial-aid budget revenue has increased only 4.9 percent from 1981 82 to 7,739,420 for 1982-83 although efforts have been made to substitute university and gift support according to the 1982-83 budget document total support to undergraduates for 1982-83 5,096,360 is projected to decrease 3.3 percent from 1981-82 according to the budget document this decrease in the face of an average 16-percent cost increase to a resident stu dent highlights the financial-aid lectures committee vlc brought the incident to the attention of muriel whitcomb assistant dean of stu dents whitcomb then met with dean cohen about the matter the purpose of the investigation is to find out what happened johnson said as to what exactly happened i don't know in a letter to the editor in last friday's brown and white johnson said that during the reception one of our university guesls was verbally and physically harassed she added whatever the motivating factors for his incident it was inexcusable because sigma nu was supposed to be representing lehigh uni versity and so should not insult our visitors joshua ocko 82 responded to the inci dent in a separate letter friday saying gathered from witnesses ... a verbal confrontation between johanna and sigma nu brother had led to a throwing of beers he further stated that after this initial act johanna was punched in the stomach a guest jumping to her rescue was also hit in the face tryg dahl 83 president of sigma nu said the university has taken it upon itself to find out what happened " and his version of the incident was echoed by several eyewitnesses the dispute started in the living room dahl said when the brother involved asked johanna to step down from a chair she was standing on at this point she verbally insulted him he made one ver bal reply and walked into another room to avoid this woman dahl said joyce pandelidis 82 said i looked into the living room and saw johanna standing on a chair she said the brother asked her to get off the furniture sorority landlord charged with health-code violations then words were exchanged between them and he left the room shortly thereafter johanna came over to him to point out that another guest had his foot on a coffee table dahl said johanna housing violations included weak flooring and no smoke detector by andy lkhkfn charges for failure to abate violations were filed tuesday against the landlord of the alpha gamma delta annex of 422 pierce st stemming from brown and white inquiries the landlord michael zito of 901 oxford drive easton was cited for vio lations by the bethlehem bureau of health and housing last april after the biown and white inquired about the resi dence when it was rented by several of the sorority's members william grubb supervisor of the bureau inspected the residence and required zito to abate the following violations of the bethlehem housing code weak flooring on the second floor no smoke detector loose exterior handrailing broken glass in the rear first floor bedroom need to clean up the interior basement and first floor need to replace carpeting in the second floor hallway and repair to loose carpet on the third floor need to install an outlet in the second floor bathroom need to replace the toilet in that bathroom need to replace that bathroom's door handle and need to scrape and repaint the exterior five members and former members of the sorority left the annex as reported in the april 2 brown and white the brown and white inquired about the current sta tus of the annex the bureau inspected the residence on the inquiry and only two violations were abated — the lack of a
