pledges will be allowed to participate in the post-lottery waiting list for univer sity housing beginning in the 1982-83 school year as a result of a proposal adopted by forum xii thursday the plan developed by the dean of students office and residence opera tions would not affect students partici pating in the lottery because pledges would only be involved in post-lottery selection the resolution affects post-lottery selection with the new post-lottery priority list for housing as folows fresh men eligible lottery participants who missed the deadline and spring semester pledges off-campus students and rein stated students and transfer students fraternities and sororities will be responsible for submitting a list of pledges not able to live in the house in order in which they will be placed in the house as space becomes available until july 10 changes in the list can be made afterward the lists will be placed in a lottery to determine the order of houses from which pledges will be placed in residence halls the selection will work for instance with the first name from the list of the second house being the second name and so on warren soare associate dean of stu dents said the plan may have an impact on rushing and pledging adding that houses may take larger pledge classes if some of the pledges can live in residence halls ifc rush chairman kevin hoover 82 of sigma nu commented favorably on the new forum resolution noting that fraternities can increase their size as many fraternities at other major univer sities exceed 70 members zeta psi rush chairman steve tacicca noted other advantages as it could benefit the house socially with more social money and better parties and get more freshmen involved in fraternities however keith kulesza 84 assistant rush chairman at kappa sigma dis agreed saying i think it's essential for the pledges to live in the house it is hard to run a pledge program when pledges live in dorms i can see its purpose but i don't think it will have a big effect on us members of alpha tau omega beta theta pi pi kappa alpha and alpha epsilon pi agreed but britt beaver 83 president of alpha phi said the new rules will defi nitely affect future rushing i think it's a good rule i just wish it would apply to juniors and seniors too she said michelle tomsho 83 president of delta gamma said most fraternities and sororities will go for the quality of the individual and not solely on the number of spaces they have available it's up to the individual house she added tomsho also mentioned that the new rules will take a burden off the houses if they want to expand their mem berships it will allow them to take more girls and allow some leeway when or if they are looking for new see resolutions page 3 campus lighting assessed areas improved cells and the cost was approximately 2,500 four years ago the university spent 15,000 on lights for sayre park and two years ago spent 14,000 for lights around the alumni memorial building and the adjoining sacred grove in the past four years the university as spent approxi mately 34,000 lor the installation of new lights the lights around the alumni building and sacred grove were installed because students requested better light ing in the area the traffic flow in those areas had increased because students were now housed in warren square and brodhead house the students gryphon in mcclintic-marshall said i rarely ever walk anywhere by myself at night i don't feel unsafe but i know that it's not safe there are some dark places on campus she said and there is definitely room for improvement in the lighting situation she also said she is more afraid to walk back from the library late at night than to walk back from a fraternity because when you're walking
