university to take maintenance role for fraternities in fall of 1982 in an effort to keep fraternities main tained at the level of other university buildings fraternity maintenance will be taken over by the university next year following a study revealing deficits in fraternity maintenance funds averag ing 47,000 per house the study . done by the accounting firm of deloitte haskins sell was reported in the brown and white feb 16 because of the deficits the university will be more like a landlord and oversee mainte nance operations according to richard metz director of auxiliary services fra ternity maintenance was formerly done by the fraternity management associa tion fma . with the takeover he said each frater nity's rent will increase an average of students to protest aid cuts by telephoning legistators they will be discussed at the upcoming student caucus meeting fisher said we hope that lehigh students will join in with others from across the coun try to make our voice heard in washing ton . . together we can work to preserve the educational quality of lehigh says fisher's letter the budget cuts will include the eli mination of all graduate guaranteed student loans and a fine and added that his doctors are keeping me here to run tests it is kind of like a puzzle and they are trying to chase down something or other '• osborn fell ill shortly before noon which is not quite early enough to be called morning sickness he said jokingly askonas was with osborn when the itt rkoeeurred she gave him mouth-to mouth resuscitation she said then corn do repairs without the university on jobs that are labor intensive non-skill oriented and safe this excludes all roof and electrical repair unless the brother is certified the fraternity would also be notified if the repair is of important magnitude where the fraternity could use its own human resources to find the best solution metz contends that there will be more see fraternity page 2 wall gave him cardiopulmonary resuscitation cpr when dahl arrived osborn's heart was beating but he was gasping for air dahl said dahl said she cleared his airway attempted to calm him down and told him how to breathe both dahl in the case of all fraternities rent has not gone up in eight years and in some cases in 20 years metz said but fraternities may save in other areas of their rent metz said fraterni ties used to include maintenance costs in other areas of their budget but they will not have to do that anymore as the rent increase should cover all costs as a result those areas of their budgets can be reduced he said with this savings in mind metz said the average fraternity then would be raising new dollars for only slightly more than 50 percent of the 4,200 routine maintenance would be done he added without notifying the fraterni ties however fraternity members can last issue this is the last issue of the brown and white before spring break the next issue will be on march 26 have a good vacation
