to lehigh grab your hats and follow me twenty minutes later screaming brakes brought a car to a stop at the airport out piled the lehigh man his date a photographer and a couple of offi cers of the paper and two empty suitcases — just in time for the departure of the huge silver transport plane gilbert p haven eng 42 an employee at band to use 108 men before houseparty crowd full week-end planned for houseparty guests camera club to sponsor open exhibition in library six juniors and three seniors holding important posts on staffs of campus publications were pledged last night by pi delta ep silon national honorary journal ism fraternity they were selected for membership earlier yesterday afternoon at a meeting of the so ciety in drown hall until the initiation banquet on tor of the epitome and copy super visor of the brown and white david g beauchamp arts 41 as sistant editor of the lehigh re view 500 sign protest to vacation plan henry busse and his orchestra have been signed to play for the sophcopation to be held on nov 25 the saturday of alumni home coming and the lafayette football game in the national guard arm ory the dance is sponsored by the sophomore class and is the first of its kind in eight years it will also be the first time that a big name band has been selected for the oc casion the orchestra will come here after recent successful engage ments at the cocoanut grove in los angeles hotel new yorker chez paree beverly hills country club and other famous night clubs and resorts featured with busse in the band are billy sherman vocalist a pro tege of gus edwards the song writers ducky young comic vo calist and the three strikes a vo cal trio for many years busse was the first trumpeter in paul whiteman's band and in 1928 he organized his own orchestra featuring himself on the trumpet his theme song hot lips was made famous through its rendition on that instrument one of the features which makes the busse band popular at college dances is its versatility it will play both swing and sweet music ac cording to the type the dancers prefer novelty numbers are also quite numerous in the band's ev ening of entertainment the style of rhythm used is known as shuffle or bouncing rhythm which is emphasized by busses muted trumpet he was one of the originators of this type of playing the dance which will be the fifth big dance to be opinion of the faculty solution to the holiday problem which arose with president roosevelt's procla mation changing the observance of thanksgiving day this year from nov 30 to nov 23 the committee game tomor row afternoon plus the usual les ser affairs in between are the headliners of the 48 hours activity remnant of junior week houseparty in its present form is a remnant of junior week which in the good old days was the occa sion on which the undergraduates imported dates and kept them here for full week of parties dances and general good times junior week was gradually shortened un til in 1910 it lasted for only two full days now houseparties al ways begin officially at 4 o'clock friday afternoon and end at the same time sunday the senior ball at hotel beth lehem tonight will be the
