rooney tunes b&w pholi by rai 1 delaguaroia lehigh university volunteers visited the hooney house on jth street for valentine's day last satur day by michelle dljmon conflicts between residence halls council rhc and lehigh university volunteers luv arose over the sche duling of their respective dance mara thons according to muriel whitcomb assistant dean of students because the marathons are scheduled only three weeks apart representatives from both groups had considered merging them into one marathon she added the problem originally was that there were two marathons scheduled very close together whitcomb said adding we tried to compromise she noted that they discussed main taining two separate marathons as origi nally planned but splitting the profits and losses having one marathon on luv's date or having one marathon in lower grace hall with a carnival atmos phere in upper grace hall financially we thought we would be better off supporting one marathon whitcomb said she noted that one mara thon would be preferred in terms of campus wide success and appeal and that the people who like to dance might only want to participate in one the decision to have two marathons is not ideal but it is the most workable she said it became more and more clear that if we forced a merger there would be many decisions to make she explained that rhc was quite well along in planning and luv was tied in with community efforts and did not have much latitude to negotiate alo-tlc faces large debt after accumulated expenses rhc will hold its 20-hour marathon from 10p.m march s to6p.m.o 6 p.m marchein lower grace hall according to rich schlauch 82 president of rhc rhc hopes to raise and donate approximately 2,000 to the arthritis/rheumatism society of the lehigh valley arsolv from the individual pledges made to marathon dancers schlauch said the luv marathon which will last for 32 hours will start 6 p.m march 26 and will continue until 2 a.m march 28 according to frost schroeder 82 luv project head of the big brother big sis ter program of northampton county all proceeds from this marathon and the marathons to be held concurrently at lafayette and moravian colleges will be donated to the big brother/big sister program he added we're trying to raise 30,000 all together he said schroeder noted there was a slight conflict because there were two mara thons in one semester however the two marathons will work because they are very different " schlauch said there are a dozen different commit tees doing different things for the luv marathon schroeder said both lafayette college and moravian college will have a marathon at their schools during the same time he added schroeder said that there will be prizes for the best dancers and the most number of pledges along with other prizes in upper grace hall luv will establish a carnival atmosphere for stu see problems pa«e fi dean of students in charge of fraternity and sorority affairs said they just didn't pay their university bills for a long time for about a year instead of paying bills they had great part ies philippi said concerning the financial debt david jacques 8:5 last year's president of the townhouse the building in which both alo and tlc are located , said we've reduced it our financial problems are not so great as before jacques emphasized that the debt is being paid by the members of the town see alo tlc page fi by george gahuzda alpha lambda omega and tau lambda chi alo and tlc , the ljniver sity's fraternity and sorority for com muting students are currently suffering from low membership and financial problems according to a report on resi dence hall problems by preston parr vice president in charge of student affairs the financial problem parr referred to is an accumulated 2,ooo debi to the uni versity incurred from heating bills utilities and expenses of the organiza tion larry philippi assistant to the lehigh university brown and white vol !>:?
