b&w photo by robert youngentob senior rick coppola shows fine form as he and his teammates whipped lafayette 68-62 wednesday night it was the first victory over the leo pards in seven years s they got the invitations but only four faculty members showed up said del markward 81 ifc president adding that we are going to keep trying the faculty will have to respond sometime the purpose of the ifc faculty pub nights is to get total faculty involve ment in fraternities as it used to be . . we are interested in making an overall faculty appeal to get them interested in us markward said according to ryan it all comes down to whether or not the faculty see part of their teaching commitment as extending beyond the classroom . . i would think it does but it scares me sometimes to think that some faculty do not think so in another attempt to improve faculty fraternity relations and to improve community/fraternity relations the ifc has planned a greek service week for march 22-26 by diana wall the first ifc faculty pubnight held at tau epsilon pi fraternity feb 11 was a failure according to stu ryan 31 ifc faculty relations chairman i was discouraged . . but not enough to give up ryan said the pubnights sponsored by the ifc are designed to help improve faculty fraternity relations the failure of the event according to ryan was due to the faculty's lack of response and the ifc's lack of sufficient publicity each fraternity was assigned an academic department head to con tact through whom they extended invi tations to other members of the department this method of invitation was too impersonal according to ryan in the future he said each fraternity will personally invite the faculty members they choose the faculty expressed interest when 215 861-4184 bethlehem pa , friday february 20 1981 1 0 national sororities considered for fourth spot we have to choose one that is finan cially sound yet also suitable to lehigh said lisa rebar 82 an alpha phi sister representatives of each uni versity sorority expressed a definite interest in adding a new resident sorority to the university rush this year demonstrated that genuine student interest in sororities exists 183 girls registered and 70 were offered bids so many people wanted to join but there just wasn't room for them said jan soderberg 84 the established sororities on campus would help the new one to overcome the problems it might face while getting started mccahan said adding that relations are much better now in the future however rush proce dures would have to be changed to accommodate a new sorority said marybeth mcciihan 82 of alpha phi the only problem facing the sec is the location of the new sorority house phi lippi said many people equate the fra ternities and sororities with houses here - it's a perception problem they are actually organizations he said although it is not really our responsi bility to find housing for the sorority we will help " philippi said we want them to have some place to call a house but the options are extremely limited philippi added the three national sororities presently at the university are alpha gamma delta alpha phi and gamma phi beta all three sororities were established in saucon married and graduate students smags in the early 19705 the individual sororities philippi said several will be invited to make a presen tation to the committee and panhel upon which a final decision can be made the sec is thoroughly investigating each sorority philippi said a question naire was distributed to the organiza tions that expressed interest in the university questions concerned alum nae chapters financial status scholar ship programs membership/chapter development and national organization he said the most important criterion is the number of active alumnae in the area who meet on a regular basis and who are willing to establish another group at lehigh philippi said he added that a study will be done to determine how well each sorority is maintained at other colleges by michelle dumon the university panhellenic council panhel has voted to expand the soror ity system because of the number of women interested in becoming involved according to larry philippi assistant to the dean of students at present 10 national sororities are being considered for colonization at the university said philippi adding thatthe selection will be narrowed down to three or four by next week finally one will be offered a place here by the end of the semester he said the sorority expansion committee sec , comprised of philippi and three representatives from each university sorority is a panhel ad hoc committee this committee will aid in the selection of the new sorority to make this choice the sec has pre pared a chart to compare and contrast lihigh university brown and white vol 92 — no 34
