with one promoter and was restricted to the acts he could provide fioretti explained working they delts shouldn't have been found guilty on these charges other regulations should have existed to support the charges made he said fraternity house presidents differed in their views on the decision i disagree with it because the rules which the delts violated weren't spelled out i see it more as a moral issue than as a discipline problem i don't feel the university has any right to judge the moral conduct of a fraternity said kevin parke 81 of lambda chi alpha dan bruzgo 81 of sigma nu said he too was disappointed with the outcome of the case whether or not what they delts did was moral was not the issue i agree with wayne shurls that the charges were not in the regulations he said place delta tau delta fraternity on university probation has resulted in mixed reactions around campus i think the trial was misunderstood by the public the charges had nothing to do with the morality of the frater nity's activity according to larry philippi assistant to the dean of students philippi who was present at the closed hearing held sept 17 said the hearing brought in full view the fact that the university code of conduct and its sanctions are not broad enough and need to be revised the decision seems light but under the existing regulations it is the maximum charge under the rules he explained del markward 81 interfraternity council ifc president also pointed out the need for broader regulations bethlehem pa tuesday skptembkr 30 1980 861-418-1 vol 92 — no 9 students get regulations which are easier to enforce were sent out by the dean in early september all violations will be reviewed and fines levied by the interfraternity council ( ifc judiciary committee violators of the rules will be subject to fines up to 25 and after repeated violations will be sent to the university discipline committee philippi said according to eric boehm 81 vice president of the ifc and chairman of ils judiciary committee new regulations were sent out because the advertising thing has just recently become a problem the presidents and the social chairmen do not seem to understand the problems with enforcing these regulations boehm said the fraternity people that put these posters up do not realize that the regulations are more for their own good than anything else such sayings have illegal implications especially on a campus in which most students are under the minimum drinking age boehm said the use of any name of an alcoholic beverage any brand name of an alcoholic beverage e.g jack daniels any names of mixed drinks containing alcohol e.g tom collins words that as defined in the dictionary connote alcohol e.g cocktails and pictures which blatantly refer to
