forward wall held the penn sylvania backs for four downs on the 3-yard line davidowitz's long dash through almost the entire perm team was by far the outstanding feat of the game his work on the defense equalled his ground gaining ability constantly threatening to over throw the red and blue throughout the game and displaying a brand of football that has rarely been equalled by any lehigh team in the past decade the brown and white gridders battling against heavy odds held a powerful perm machine to a 10-7 score at franklin field last saturday the game was witnessed by a throng of for the opposing ends tubby miller's work on the line was the best he has ever shown he outplayed his opponent in every phase of the game and broke up many of the perm for mations ed blackmar at the oth er tackle and sam hall at end con tributed greatly to the strength of the line masters and gentle as expected performed brilliantly for the phila delphians and were responsible for most of the ground gained both possessed speed and got away for several long gains around end carl sen was the only back who could penetrate the lehigh line for sub stantial yard gains utz and magai excelled at the tackle positions for the red and blue from the opening kick-off it was evident that perm was not to se cure the easy victory that was ex pected after taking the ball eight yards on the first two plays lehigh decided to kick and ware booted the pigskin to the opponents 25 yard line perm unable to make a decisive gain promptly returned the kick and the period became lit tle more than a punting duel with neither side profiting much for more than two-thirds of the per iod the ball remained in the quak er territory until a fine boot by gentle rolled out on the lehigh 30 yard line hall got in several tackles that clowned gentle and carlsen far behind their own line and on the punts had the perm safety man nailed as soon as he touched the ball perm stars enter game at the beginning of the second period perm was in possession of the ball in the center of the field and started a rally that was short lived a series of end runs brought the ball to the brown and white 30-yard line but the line tightened and perm lost the ball after an unsuccessful attempt to gain ware ripped off a 54-yard kick and put the ball well out of danger at this point masters and opekum en tered the game for the quakers and these two managed to work the ball down to the lehigh 30-yard line only to be stopped again by the tate stone wall defense after failing to complete two passes ware again kicked and masters playing the safety position was nailed on his own 35-yard line gette got away for a 20-yard trip around end and masters imme diately followed with a run that placed the ball on lehigh's 13-yard line for a first down once again the line proved its power and gameness by forcing masters to try a placement that was com pletely smothered and lehigh took the ball on the 20-yard line ware kicked at once and after unsuccess ful attempts at gain gentle return ed the kick here davvy madejiis one bad play of the game by miss ing the kick being nailed on his own 20-yard line before he could get under way then came the break that resulted in perm's vic tory with two minutes of the half left it appeared that no scoring would result on lehigh first play after the punt davvy was unable to handle a bad pass from center and the ball bounded into the air maigi crashing through tackle nabbed the ball before it touched the ground and after standing dead in his tracks for a moment raced across the line with the ball for a touch down none of the players seemed to realize what was happening and no attempt was made to stop the burly quaker tackle the score was ruled legal by the officials and mas ters kicked the final point in the last few seconds of play lehigh scores continued on page three perm opened the second half by kicking-off to lehigh after a s yard gain by davvy and two in complete passes ware kicked to perm's 40-yard line perm tried an unsuccessful off-tackle play and was penalized 10 yards for holding gen tle kicked and davvy catching the ball on his
