rival factions seeking election of nominees reports are accepted bulletin houses choose new presidents interfraternity council and arcadia offices at stake plan open campaign baird and davis are unfortunately an other contestant cut loose with some stunts just as the race was about to start and since stunting was at that time a novelty everyone for got the chilly students on the cots until one freezing victim wailed let's go and the judges started the contest amid howles of laugh ter however this race resulted in a near tragedy for lehigh when the plane which nowell was piloting crashed a rather belated continuance of the sport four men old records in the brown and white reveal began lehigh's aviation history by repre senting the university in the in tercpllegiate aero meet held at the more seriously injured x-ray photographs show a fragment of a steel-jacketed bul let lodged in his left calf compli cated by lacerations although the injury of baird seated between da vis and the rifle first seemed to be a flesh wound along the left hip x-ray revealed a piece of steel im bedded in the flesh when the accident occurred capt maxmilian clay was explaining stoppages in the automatic rifle while sgt thomas j lavin demon strated their remedy before a 9 o'clock sophomore class in some unaccountable way a loaded car tridge was in the magazine sgt lavin used bullet ricochets in order that the class might see the demonstration better the sar geant pointed the piece diagonally toward them and while capt clay continued his description suddenly there a terrifying report point ed downward at a 45 degree angle with its muzzle resting on the class room table the piece had fired the bullet dug a three-inch groove be fore plunging through five inches of wooden table top and side board to break into several pieces one fragment struck baird in the left hip while the others hit the sheet steel book-rack under his chair and ricocheted in such a manner that a piece hit davis are now on ex hibition in the alumni memorial building this exhibition contains pencil drawings drawings in soft crayon and in water colors of buildings of the college gothic type at wellesley princeton brown perm state cornell and lehigh in the drawings one can trace the workings of the architect's mind from the preliminary sketches to the finished work the architect sketch es out the masses in the prelimin ary drawings and then modifies them as he develops his ideas and increases the amount of detail un til finally he is able to visualize the finished building an excellent illustration of this type of sketching is the drawing of the alumni building which was done before the building was start ed the impression created is that the artist sketched the building aft er its completion a comparison of the styles at other schools fav orably compares with those at le high these drawings will be ex hibited until may 1 the final art exhibit of the year a collection of the saturday night dances under the new rule which provides that no more than two houses can go together on saturday night seems to jus tify the new rule which will un doubtedly be continued for the
