it is one of the christians most de lightful seasons for they mostly the she-christians get praise and give it at the same time with one eye closed in a prayer of praise the other eye is open casting about to see how many other open eyes are praising their easter rig-out however not everybody is able to enjoy this easter season our dixie land for instance is strug gling under the ravages of flood and wind and mexicans even though most of them probably don't know why are killing each other off in all ferociousness and the happiness of a good many homes has been invaded dur ing the past week by airplane acci dents the crash of the huge tri motored sightseeing plane in new ark killed 14 persons and now four fliers are missing as a result of a miami-to-new york race with a train * * * fortunately the time for more oceanic flights is not quite with us or the list of casualties would prob ably fill much of this column france < spent palm sunday in mourning she suffered the loss of her admirable marshal foch gen eralissimo of the allied forces in the world war marshal foch died at the age of 77 venerated by the people he guarded during the harrassing times of 1918 he was accorded funeral rights which have been accorded no other man since victor hugo the rites were sim ple but made impressive by the tri butes of all nations * * * and still they fighf in mexico while president portes gils paces the floor of the great room in which many a mexican president before him paced in nervous anxiety portes gils claims that the peo ple are not fighting for religion for he says the priests may come back at any time if they will reg ister with the state as any other profession must do the mexican president charges the mexican press as being false propagandists he claims the rebels fail to realize that what they are fighting for is merely to enable a group of men outside the government to get in side but what they are told is that they are fighting for religion and against an autocratic govern ment the mexicans have never learned how to handle two or more political parties two or more parties to them is the signal for another shooting fest * * * at the same time that herbert hoover is pushing his law enforce ment program ahead which inci dentally he says is not to be in the style of a fanatic movement more lawyers combines are being form ed to oppose the jones law which imposes upon volsted violators a sentence of five years in prison or 10,000 fine or both in new york city another committee similar to that headed by frederic r coud ert is being formed camden mount veryion and other cities are doing likewise they all feel that the law is a violation of the consti tution * * * what hoover is after is a show down what is wrong with the prohibition situation is the question he wants to answer and to solve hoover is continuing with what has been called his inventory of the law enforcement situation he is forming a commission to find the results of nine years under prohibi tion and with large sums of mon ey at his command he is pushing law enforcement ♦ * * the papers this week carry strange headlines over one col umn we read that the income and corporation tax receipts are mil lions higher than last year while another headline tells us that there is fear for the government's credit the paradox is too muddled for us * * * headed by borah the same group that opposed wilson's idealistic schemes are now fighting to de cline the invitation to the world court obtained for us through elihu root's efforts although the united states under the root plan would possess a privileged stand in that she could withdraw from the court in the event of an irreconcil able difference in regard to an ad visory opinion borah insists on the isolation policy * * * germany is to pay 420,000,000 a year in reparations a sum 180,000 000 less than under the original dawes plan of payment although germany has not yet accepted the feeling is that she could not have expected anything more liberal than this a list of men eligible for tau beta pi election was brought be fore the meeting of the society held thursday evening in drown hall the election of new men to mem bership will be held after the eas ter vacation a report of the dance which was held in hotel bethle hem march 9 was read a plan for the publishing of a pa per offering advice to students and their feminine friends at house par ty time was presented by john lyter pi delta epsilon representa tive at the board of publications meeting yesterday afternoon the plan which was discussed and sanc tioned by the board is to be one of a series of annual honorary jour nalistic society heretofore these publications have been severely criticized because of content mat ter and this year's paper which is to be wholly different from those of former years will test whether or not the publication is as yet be yond criticism proceeds from the sale of the paper the price of which has not been determined as yet will be turned over to the pi delta epsilon treasury discussion was also held as to the advisability of giving mone tary compensation to officers of the various university publications de cision was finally reached to the ef fect that 25 per cent of all proceeds should go to a sinking fund in the year 1929 so per cent in the year 1930 75 per cent in 1930 and in 1932 the entire total should go to the fund this means that in 1932 all university publications will be run on a strictly amateur basis no compensation whatsoever being al lowed the board also it is one of the christians most de lightful seasons for they mostly the she-christians get praise and give it at the same time with one eye closed in a prayer of praise the other eye is open casting about to see how many other open eyes are praising their easter rig-out however not everybody is able to enjoy this easter season our dixie land for instance is strug gling under the ravages of flood and wind and mexicans even though most of them probably don't know why are killing each other off in all ferociousness and the happiness of a good many homes has been invaded dur ing the past week by airplane acci dents the crash of the huge tri motored sightseeing plane in new ark killed 14 persons and now four fliers are missing as a result of a miami-to-new york race with a train * * * fortunately the time for more oceanic flights is not quite with us or the list of casualties would prob ably fill much of this column france < spent palm sunday in mourning she suffered the loss of her admirable marshal foch gen eralissimo of the allied forces in the world war marshal foch died at the age of 77 venerated by the people he guarded during the harrassing times of 1918 he was accorded funeral rights which have been accorded no other man since victor hugo the rites were sim ple but made impressive by the tri butes of all nations * * * and still they fighf in mexico while president portes gils paces the floor of the great room in which many a mexican president before him paced in nervous anxiety portes gils claims that the peo ple are not fighting for religion for he says the priests may come back at any time if they will reg ister with the state as any other profession must do the mexican president charges the mexican press as being false propagandists he claims the rebels fail to realize that what they are fighting for is merely to enable a group of men outside the government to get in side but what they are told is that they are fighting for religion and against an autocratic govern ment the mexicans have never learned how to handle two or more political parties two or more parties to them is the signal for another shooting fest * * * at the same time that herbert hoover is pushing his law enforce ment program ahead which inci dentally he says is not to be in the style of a fanatic movement more lawyers combines are being form ed to oppose the formed camden mount veryion and other cities are doing likewise they all feel that the law is a violation of the consti tution * * * what hoover is after is a show down what is wrong with the the results of nine years under prohibi tion and with large sums of mon ey at his command he is pushing law enforcement ♦ * * the papers this week carry strange headlines over one col umn we read that the income and corporation tax receipts are mil lions higher than last year while another headline tells us that there is fear for the government's credit the paradox is too muddled for us * * * headed by borah the same group that opposed wilson's idealistic schemes are now fighting to de cline the invitation to the world court obtained for us through elihu root's efforts although the united
