have won 4 out of 9 games visitors held scoreless in fast play of sticks witnessed by large crowd game featured by heavy hitting of lafayette men , who made ten hits to lehigh's three score 6=o score 5-0 tierney does clever mound work although he almost loses control in ninth nesselbush succeeds in shooting past goal tender twice good passing in spots lehigh trackmen easy for navy experts asst managers elected at college meet team scores only one first place locke wins broad jump four seconds a l salzman successful candi date for wrestling l b kehler chosen for basketball the lafayette net men bowed to the lehigh tennis team on sat urday afternoon the brown and white men winning 5 of the 6 marches the meet was hotly con test ed throughout and the easton ians put up strong opposition al though outclassed by the lehigh team r the first match beck won over wenna in three sets the la fayette man took the first set 6-2 thep beck set his usual pace and todx the last two sets 6-2 and 6-4 boih of which were probably the bes-.t exhibition of tennis seen here in years warner likewise dropped the first set to schumway but when he hit his stride he took the last two sets 6 d?v 6-2 warner made mfeny well-piaced shots estes had little trouble in dis posing of tappin in straight sets 6 and 6-2 continued on third page gildersleeve after taking the first set 6-2 from mitchell was then defeated by his opponent 6-4 and 7-5 in the last two sets the rapidly closing baseball season finds three games still to be played they are with colgate johns hopkins and c c n y the last of these will be met to morrow on taylor field the manhattan team boasts of victories over brooklyn poly 8-2 and over new york university 2-1 seton hall defeated them earlier in the season by a score of 9-3 and so did columbia 9-6 on may 7 washington and lee beat c c n y on the latter s ground's 14-3 the brown and white line-up will probably be the same as for the lafayette game excepting that either lees or pfeiffer will most likely pitch in place of johnson the game is scheduled to start at 3:45 p.m and all students should be there promptly at that time to help cheer the lehigh team to vic tory the c c n y line-up follows norman if kelly 3b krinsky capt 2b raskin lb freehill if murray c littenberg ss zuckerbrot ef feigin axtell or caerney p juniors assemble in important session electricals elect new officers last saturday the track team was scuttled by the navy at ann apolis by a score of 102 to 23 three men placed in each event scoring 5 3 and 1 respectively raising the score quite noticeably although lehigh made some very good times the team was not able to better the seamen and they easily secured enough events to win the day bray did the mile in one second behind the lehigh record and 1 se cured second place locke was the only man to secure a first place in any event and covered the distance of 21 ft 1 in in the broad jump continued on third page the loss of herrington who has had trouble with his appendix and has ueen auivi^j x>y the dector to refrain from jumping was felt when the event went to the navy as porter tied with jones with the bar at 5 ft 7 in it miust be remem bered that earlier in the season herrington cleared 5 ft 10 in faculty to entertain student body a short college meeting was held friday morning in packer hall for the purpose of electing the new assistant managers of basketball and wrestling and also for the election of an athletic representa tive from the college at large and also of a college secretary w m donovan 21 was unanimously elected athletic representative from the college at large j j ship herd 21 and r huebner 21 were nominated for college secre tary the balloting to take place at a college meeting next friday morning at eleven o'clock in packer hall a l saltzman 22 was elected assistant manager of wrestling and l b kehler 22 was elected assistant manager of basketball mercer b rate presi dent of the arcadia presided and gave a short talk on the smoker w f myers 21 announced that a competition will be opened by the burr to fill two sophomore and one freshman vacancy the competition closing near the be ginning of the next term he de sired that all interested should re port to him next thursday at 7 p.m at the chi psi lodge smoker and p-rade precede lafayette game the electrical engineering so ciety held its last meeting of the year thursday night and the mem bers were addressed by mr bailey of the construction department of the philadelphia electric com pany mr bailey spoke on elec trical designs of generator sub station service previous to the talk a short business meeting was held and the following men were elected as officers of the society for the coming year president r c hicks jr 21 vice-presi dent j m skillman 21 secre tary m s armstrong 21 ; treas urer g m brumbaugh 22 at the beginning of his talk mr bailey defined service as the con tinual supplying of electrical en ergy to the consumer he told some things in general about the two main electrical stations of philadelphia the schuylkill and the chester and stated that the electrical company of philadelphia has another main station in con struction and at the present time has 34 sub-stations and 45 indus trial sub-stations the great rapidity of increase of electrical energy since 1904 was pointed out in the discussion other points of interest in the address included a brief talk*on short circuits on dry oil switches used on reactors and their installation and on the cost of the maintenance of the reactors mr bailey concluded his speech by telling about safety devices ther operation and installation final get-together friday morning by winning the game with swarthmore played on taylor field saturday by a score of 6-0 the brown and white lacrosse men worked their way to the finals in the intercollegiate lacrosse cham pionship of the southern division johns hopkins whose team will meet the lehigh twelve next sat urday in baltimore alone stands in the way of the title although the lehigh stick wield ers came out of the game saturday with six points to their credit the swarthmore twelve played a plucky game and gave the brown and white men a hard battle throughout during the first period the ball was for the most part in swarthmore s territory and the lehigh aggregation was able to score only two goals an thony swarthmore s goal keeper caught the ball time and time again just as it was about to enter the net during the second period swarthmore s defense weakened a trifle and the brown and white men were able to find the net four times all of lehigh s team showed up exceedingly well although a bit ragged in spots and out-played the garnet-striped men straub jenness and beard played an ex cellent game for the brown and white men the three of them showing exceptional skill in hand ling the ball w r hile nesslebush did most of the scoring from the results it can easily be seen that the home team is in its prime and although it will be slightly handicapped playing away from home the game next satur day with john hopkins to decide the championship w t ill be one be tween two evenly matched teams and the brown and white men have an excellent chance of defeat ing their opponents the line-up of last saturday's game follows : lehigh : spanagel g ; strauch jenness davidson schubert time of periods : 35 minutes friday evening the first spring smoker was staged in taylor gym under the auspices of the inter fraternity council the evening was rather wet and the turn-out was not as encouraging as had been hoped nevertheless the affair was a success the band augmented slightly added much to the spirit of the occasion two short wrestling bouts were presented the first was between g l childs and f bruner two lightweights the second was in the heavyweight class — e booth vs e h roy both matches were exhibitions and afforded quite a bit of amusement to the spectators the two speakers were prof ez bowen who gave a short snappy talk on baseball and prof bosey reiter the latter gave another one of his typical pep speeches b b davidson 20 pre sided very ably the smoker was followed by a big p-rade of all classes led by the band the freshmen wore pa jamas and the march turned out to be a real lively one notice there will be no interfraternity smoker this friday night as pre viously announced by the com mittee the reason for this is obvious gym notice all freshmen must take their swimming tests before thursday if they wish to be credited with it examinations are held daily in the pool an important meeting of the junior class was held in drown hall friday morning following the college meeting for the pur pose of nominating class officers for the senior year the voting by ballott will be held tomorrow 7 after noon in drown hall the follow ing were the nominations president l bevan e w burgess g l childs p ritchie and p f walker vice-president : j k huebner and w f myers secretary c r berner h goldman and h w riebe treasurer : r huebner and r childs sergeant-at-arms : r m knerr and a b maginnes historian a w laffey h r maddox and d g maraspin senior class book committee : a j barthold h g boynton j r farrington e h hollenback j w hood r m hinchman w n lawrie e m loeser j w morgan d c pfeiffer and r l wilson class athletic representative : h goldman w n lawrie d c pfeiffer j g powles and g m savaria reports were read by the chair men of the junior prom senior prom and junior banquet com mittees d c pfeiffer president gave a short talk and mercer b tate president of the senior class asked all the juniors to re main at lehigh until after alumni day in order to help make it a success a meeting of the senior prom committee was held after the junior class meeting to make final plans for the dance which the juniors are to give to the gradu ating seniors the senior prom will be held in drown hall on the evening of thursday june 10th sherbo's orchestra from the little club new york city has been en gaged for that evening the last college meeting of the year will take place friday morn ing at 11 o'clock at this time the assistant managers of track base ball and lacrosse will be elected cheer leaders from the present sophomore class will also be chosen at this meeting and it is very important for everyone to be present a play called the chair of truth was presented by the le high faculty dramatic club at its spring reception last friday even ing it turned out very success fully and it was suggested that the performance be repeated for the benefit of any students or town people who desire to see it it will therefore be presented again tomorrow evening in drown hall at 8:15 o'clock admission will be free to all lehigh students and their friends the play is a dramatization of elsie comer's the long in heritance by mrs john l stewart and mr charles ruff and is said to be a highly interesting one the time of presentation is about one hour this has been made possible by the novel staging effects arranged by prof parke b fraim the director only one-half of the stage is used at a time and while the play is in progresis on one side a change of scenery is made on the other side of the stage and hence the long waits between scenes which are so typical of amateur productions have been abolished the play consists of a prologue and two acts in four scenes the east is made up entirely of mem bers of the faculty and their wives those who take part in it are p^pf . arthur w klein miss jean mum ford mrs charles s fox mrs john toohy prof parke b fraim mrs john l stewart mr james d sourber mrs john h bickley and prof myron j luch accom modations for a large audience have been made lehigh lost the second baseball game of the annual series with lafayette last saturday the score being 5-0 the largest crowd of the season was out to see the game ; besides practically the entire le high student body there was also present a considerable delegation from down the river and a large number of town people johnson was hit hard in five of the nine innings and while his support was a trifle loose at times it had no bearing on the result on two occasions however the le high infield turned in double plays at critical times and barely missed a third in the second inning with men on second and third and none out a double play donovan to yap to wilson removed any danger of scoring tierney pitching for the visit ors showpd the best twirling that has been seen here this year three hits in as many innings were all that the lehigh batters could gather and none came at critical times or with men on bases in the first with men on second and third and again in the ninth with the bases loaded and one out the lehigh hitters were impotent several good fielding plays were pulled off during the afternoon wohlbach in left field for lafa yette made some good catches in the fifth he robbed savaria of what seemed to be a sure triple by catching the ball with his bare hand while running at full speed gazella at third also fielded well for lehigh savaria handled six chances without a babble and beck pulled off some neat plays the outstanding feature of the game was the long hitting of the maroon team two home runs over the right field wall two triples and three doubles bounced off the visitors bats the lafayette coach chose a right hander to work against lehigh s left handed batters contrary to ex pectations coach keady sent douglas to right while rote occu pied left and savaria was on second in the opening inning johnson retired the first two batters without much trouble but with two strikes on him gozella caught a high ball and slipped it over the fence for a homer lehigh threatened in their half of the first when two bases on balls and an out put men on second and third but no runs resulted lafayette scored another in the second on two hits and an error and had men on second and third with none out but a double play engineered by yap killed their chances to score any more the visitors third run came in the fourth when houser drove one over the wall for another homer lehigh threatened in the sixth when yap doubled to right center with none down but he was left stranded continued on third page lafayette's last two runs were scored on some long hitting le brown and white bethlehem pa tuesday may 25 1920 c c n y nine here tomorrow sophomores final gathering friday after college meet election of officers last college meet friday morning eleven o'clock all out
