appearance with its new modern istic cover but it embraces several features which it has never had be fore one only has to open the maga zine to see the difference in make up and style the mast head has been condensed and placed in a box istead of being spread over the whole page the usual box with the request for funds at the bot tom of this page has been omitted and a column referring to things about the campus has been in serted the next feature that presents itself is an editorial page taking the place of the combined editorial and news section of the old bullet in formerly the editorials were included in the sections reserved for special news items that are of interest to the alumni turning the page the reader finds these items just before the feature articles with this and following editions an outstanding article will be run each month this article will be by some prominent alumnus or man known to all the alumni l s homer vice president of the al umni association calls upon le high men to lead the way to bet ter business practice in the first of these written the final touch is made with nu merous cuts of scenes about the campus campus leaders teams in action and of some remarkable views of the new packard laboratory the only other noticeable change is the absence of the old personal sec tion and the addition of a new page referring to the same things in more complete form instead of the personals being compiled by the editors they are now written by the secretaries of each class burr now ready for distribution professor klein returns has been iii all summer professor fay c bartlett has just issued the first of the health bulletins which appear every week and contain ideas for the student body to assimilate in regard to health and keeping fit they are written on such subjects as diet types of exercise fatigue staleness training mental hygiene health selections and general hygiene the bulletin for this week con cerns ideals of health health building is a many-sided process which makes impossible a passive attitude toward any of its essential elements personal responsibility extends itself over the whole area of indi vidual life it does not limit itself to the control of striped muscle tissue — handbook of positive health personal health and happiness must be striven for day by day and through every channel of work and play open to us — handbook posi tive health we must make the most of our opportunities instead of the most of our 6'ff3t2gte handbook of pos professor fort sends cir cular letter to eighty students professor t s fort is undertak ing the organization of a mathemat ics club at lehigh with the pur pose of sponsoring special mathe matical studies and addresses of a general mathematical nature ly distinguished speakers such a club would afford a means by which faculty members and students could meet on a plane of mutual interest and equality let ters have been sent to eighty stu dents who have shown exceptional ability in mathematics and although this number would form an organ ization so large as to be unwieldy it is hoped that a final group con siderably smaller can be organized to form the club an extract from professor fort's letter reads i look back on such associations in the past as one of the most pleasant experiences of my life as a teacher and mathema tician it is my belief that such asso ciations are also helpful to the stu dents and in the long run enjoyed and appreciated by them i hope that we can organize a mathemat ics club open only to our best students membership in which will serve to honor them and associate together a group having in com mon an intellectual interest this is one of the closest bonds between men my idea is that the proposed club would meet from time to time f rine ihe term according to the tjffie.s_of its members that pro k.ains of a mathematical ch^^^^r should be presented and thl^^m social feature should not be for gotten that membership in the club be made and considered a college honor based on success and likely achievement in mathematics the club should also sponsor general movements on the campus looking to an increased interest in the sub ject and to an improvement of the mathematical situation at lehigh in every way t h marshall wins new chem fellowship frederick a bradford assistant professor of economics has just had his book emphasized rather than monetary practices since the latter are subject to change in periods of monetary re construction and stabilization while fundamental principles apply under any conditions perhaps the chief contribution of the book lies in the choice and ar rangement of the material in prop er fashion for classroom presenta tion the author's aim is to pro vide the student with and white eleven opposes the strong gettysburg squad which outplayed perm state last week two years ago when the gettysburg bullets made their last appearance against lehigh one player was largely responsible for the 16-6 defeat which the brown and white suffered this man charley spangler fullback on the gettysburg team is playing again this year and he and his classy running mate earl mcmillan hope to better the performance of two years ago there have been two radical changes in the lehigh camp this week the huddle system has been dropped and the scrubs are now in charge of si morgan 25 a former lehigh back who saw action on brown and white football and la crosse teams for four years mor gan has been drilling the scrubs with gettysburg plays and yester day his charges used their plays against the varsity in a scrimmage last saturday gettysburg sur prised state with its open field run ning and when coach bream put his first string backfield into play after state had scored the new combination carried the ball 80 yards through a series of advances the bullets outrushed state and were credited with eight first downs to five for the lions they carried the ball twice within several yards of the sate goal but both times were held to fourth down when passes were unsuccessfully tried in the past two games coach bream has not started his first string backfield and it is more than likely that he will follow this same policy tomorrow the gettysburg backs are fast and shifty and they have been taught to run hard the line is equally as heavy as that of the brown and white and from all indications tomorrow's game will be a tough fight from start to finish following his usual custom of doing the unusual austy tate did not have very much to say about the performance against p m c but it was clearly understood that he was disappointed and hurt at the showing which the team made many of the men who started in last saturday's game were demoted monday but they have all been re instated after several hard scrim mages and practically the same team that lined up against p m c will probably start tomorrow tubby filler and jack levitz have been put twck.to their jormer positions so he will be saved for the princeton fray in his absence fran evers will get the starting as signment practices this week have been behind locked gates and only those with special permission were allow ed to watch the brown and white team in its intensive workouts scrimmages have been a daily oc currence and the fight for positions has become more strenuous than ever the workouts have been longer than usual since flood lights have once again been placed at the top of the stands and the varsity squad is out on the field till six thirty every afternoon training table has been introduced by any organization the requests should include the i the name of thi speaker his subject and the amount of money needed the october alumni bulletin which has just been published is not only presenting a rejuvenated appearance with its new modern istic cover but it embraces several features which it has never had be fore one only has to open the maga zine to see the difference in make up and style the mast head has been condensed and placed in a box istead of being spread over the whole page the usual box with the request for funds at the bot tom of this page has been omitted and a column referring to things about the campus has been in serted the next feature that presents itself is an editorial page taking the place of the combined editorial and news section of the old bullet in formerly the editorials were included in the sections reserved for special news items that are of interest to the alumni turning the page the reader finds these items just before the feature articles with this and following editions an outstanding article will be run each month this article will be by some prominent alumnus or man known to all the alumni l s homer vice president of the al umni association calls upon le high men to lead the way to bet ter business practice in the first of these written the final touch is made with nu merous cuts of scenes about the campus campus leaders teams in action and of some remarkable views of the new packard laboratory the only other noticeable change is the absence of the old personal sec tion and the addition of a new page referring to the same things in more complete form instead of the personals being compiled by the editors they are now written by the secretaries of each class burr now ready for distribution professor klein returns professor t s fort is undertak ing the organization of a mathemat ics club at lehigh with the pur pose of sponsoring special mathe matical studies and addresses of a general mathematical nature ly distinguished speakers such a club would afford a means by which faculty members and students could meet on a plane of mutual interest and equality let ters have been sent to eighty stu dents who have shown exceptional ability in mathematics and although this number would form an organ ization so large as to be unwieldy it is hoped that a final group con siderably smaller can be organized to form the club an extract from professor fort's letter reads i look back on such associations in the past as one of the most pleasant experiences of my life as a teacher and mathema tician it is my belief that such asso ciations are also helpful to the stu dents and in the long run enjoyed and appreciated by them i hope that we can organize a mathemat ics club open only to our best students membership in which will serve to honor them and associate together a group having in com mon an intellectual interest this is one of the closest bonds between men my idea is that the proposed club would meet from time to time f rine ihe term according to the tjffie.s_of its members that pro k.ains of a mathematical ch^^^^r should be presented and thl^^m social feature should not be for gotten that membership in the club be made and considered a college honor based on success and likely achievement in mathematics the club should also sponsor general movements on the campus looking to an increased interest in the sub ject and to an improvement of the mathematical situation at lehigh in every way t h marshall wins new chem fellowship frederick a bradford assistant professor of responsible for the 16-6 defeat which the brown and white suffered this man charley spangler fullback on the gettysburg team is playing again this year and he and his classy running mate earl mcmillan hope to better the performance of two years ago there have been two radical changes in the lehigh camp this week the huddle system has been dropped and the scrubs are now in charge of si morgan 25 a former lehigh back who saw action on brown and white football and la crosse teams for four years mor gan has been drilling the scrubs with gettysburg plays and yester day his charges used their plays against the varsity in a scrimmage last saturday gettysburg sur prised state with its open field run ning and when coach bream put his first string backfield into play after state had scored the new combination carried the ball 80 yards through a series of advances the bullets outrushed state and were credited with eight first downs to five for the lions they carried the ball twice within several yards of the sate goal but both times were held to fourth down when passes were unsuccessfully tried in the past two games coach bream has not started his first string backfield and it is more than likely that he will follow this same policy tomorrow the gettysburg backs are fast and shifty and they have been taught to run hard the line is equally as heavy as that of the brown and white and from all indications tomorrow's game will be a tough fight from start to finish following his usual custom of doing the unusual austy tate did not have very much to say about the performance against p m c but it was clearly understood that he was disappointed and hurt at the showing which the team made many of the men who started in last saturday's game were demoted monday but they have all been re
