these teams are new comers on lehigh s schedule the game with syracuse marks the first athletic contest between the two schools for several years this game will be one of the attractions of junior week and a considerable crowd will undoubtedly be on hand little is known concerning the strength of the crescents or syra cuse but both may be depended upon to furnish strong opposition the crescent athletic club puts teams on the field m basketball hockey lacrosse and several other sports which are on a par with the best teams in the east syra cuse as is well known sends out strong teams and their lacrosse team this year is said to be a heavy aggregation with a number of football men on it despite the fact that the team is in a much better condition than several weeks ago a glance over the squad will find quite a few cripples amongst the first string wey is still having considerable trouble with his eyes due to being struck in the eye with the ball dur ing a game last year bush broke a small bone in his ankle in the first scrimmage of the week davidson tore a ligament on his right side lewis has a bad foot however it is expected that with the exception of bush these men will be able to line up saturday in addition to these cripples the team is deprived of the services of backert who is working on the railroad in the present emergency while the game last saturday with baltimore city college was little more than a work-out owing to the weak opposition furnished yet the game served to show that the team is fast rounding into shape the passing was better than in the navy game and the general team work good the easy game allowed coach o'neill to get a line on a number of substitutes and several of these will be used in the coming games the line-up is somewhat uncertain at present but will probably be as follows lehigh — spanagel g ; enslin f straub c.p wilson lstd maurer 2ndd ; jenness 3rdd ; strauch c ; davidson 3rda ; schubert 2nda ; nesselbush ist a ; schulz 0.h ; lewis i.h junior week will be the occasion for two meets tryouts for places on the team musical comedy to add to gaiety cinder artists to meet n.y.u and state mustard and cheese club to phi delta theta and the phi gamma delta teams fought for thirty minutes for supremacy in the fastest and most interesting inter-fraternity game played this season when the smoke of the battle had cleared away the score board showed a victory for phi delta theta by the very small margin of 16-14 the closeness of the final score indicates how nearly the two teams were matched hardly at any time during the game did the score differ by more than two or three points after the first few minutes the phi delts assumed the lead and after being tied once retained it for the remainder of the game the two or three points which they continued on fourth page tonight the lehigh baseball team leaves bethlehem station on the black diamond for the most extensive northern baseball trip that has ever been attempted heretofore the baseball team has generally made a short trip through the south and in 1917 a journey was made through west ern pennsylvania and up into new england including games with perm state pittsburgh medford all stars holy cross and will iams this trip closed the 1917 season and proved to be very suc cessful when lehigh won the east ern intercollegiate championship by downing the holy cross nine by the score o 3-2 after 16 innings this trip promises to be more successful than any since manager j a gardy has arranged games with some of , the largest universi ties of new england after spend ing the night in new york the team will leave for west point in the morning and arrive there shortly before noon in the after noon they meet the cadet nine and then move on to albany where they spend the night sunday morning they leave for hamilton n.y where they rest over the day the next afternoon colgate uni versity will be the opponent they then travel back to albany and early
