contest victory expected batting averages coach o'neill has corrected the glaring mistakes of the navy game mathag ranks highest among lehigh batsmen ltes and yap among select 300 the freshman baseball nine trimmed moravian college satur day on the moravian grounds to the tune of 11 to 1 this victory was a decided come-back to the de feat handed them a week ago at the hands of the moravian team and will make it necessary to play the third game at some future date light pitched a great game for the freshmen allowing only one hit while craig and conroy shared the honors behind the bat every man on the team hit the ball hard while the moravian nine could do almost nothing the next game for the freshman nine is saturday when they will line up against bethlehem prep at 2 30 p.m on the prep field the game promises to be one of great interest due to the good showing made by both teams so far this sea son the batteries for the lehigh nine will probably be chosen from light or davis and conroy or craig all freshmen are urged to go to the game and root for their team and it is hoped that a good many from the other classes will attend fraternity teams rest for the finals the last of the sunday evening y m c a meetings to be held this semester will be novel in that an all-student program has been ar ranged the meeting this coming sunday evening will be held at 6 15 as usual j m straub 20 president of the association this past year will discuss various phases of activity in which the y m c a at the university has been engaged dwelling in particular upon the educational and naturalization branches a w glaser 20 one of those who represented the uni versity at the dcs moines confer ence will speak on the various re ligious problems confronting a man in college e booth 20 secre tary of the v m c a this past year will take athletics as the subject of his talk m w sum mers 21 will render a number of piano selections in the course of the evening a number of announcements will be made at the meeting among them will be some data on the silver bay summer conference to be held at lake george n v from june 25 to july 4 1920 r.hd billinger 21 newly elected presi dent of the y m c a will pre sent this matter parade and dinner to start alumni reunion at the annual banquet of the lehigh burr board last wedoes dlay night extensive measures were taken for the enlarging and im proving of the college wit maga zine changes were madte in every department of the board and a complete re-organization was de veloped in the first place the fiscal year was changed from run ning from april till april to june till june thus making the earnings of the paper confined to the one whole scholastic year the method of retirement of members in april however was left the same as at present th staff of the burr underwent a material transformation out of the single office of editor-in-chief was brought the office of managing editor the edlitor-in-chief is to be responsible for the editorial policy of the paper while the man aging editor will have change of the other contents and their ar rangement the office of secretary was created in order to assist the editor-in-chief in taking care of the correspondtenee of the burr this position was 1 found necessary to be created because of the custom which the burr has adopted of having a girls number each year and because of the correspondence which is kept up with other similar publications continued on third page the office of business manager was divided 1 into the same office and into circulation manager the business manager is to have charge of all advertising matter while the circulation manager will take charge of subscriptions the po sitions of art editor and assistant art editor were created and 1 these men will take complete charge of that work these two branches of the board the business and the art are to be further developed on saturday afternoon the la crosse team plays its second game of the season and the first game on the home grounds the opponents being baltimore city college the team which will start against the maryland aggregation will be practically the same as that which played against the navy last week coach o neill has been working the team hard this week to correct the faults which appear ed in the game last week and the team should show considerable im provement over last week's work on the other hand the team is not as weak as it appeared from last week's score as during the first twenty minutes of play neither side was the favorite the lack of con dition which was apparent has been materially improved thursday afiternoon the coach lined the probable first team against substitutes in a practice game shifting the men around to see what combination played best lacrosse while little is known concerning the baltimore team it is said to be fairly strong they won their opening game last week the probable line-up will be : lehigh baltimore city college spengel g lewis i.h black lehigh admitted to flying club tomorrow lehigh's track team will have ja chance to show their mettle when the annual clash with muhlenberg takes place ; the meet is to be at allentown inclement wsather has been a great hindrance to both teams as far as practice is concerned the lehigh team made a good showing last saturday how ever when its members took part in the inter-class struggle and the indications are that success will be theirs tomorrow the results of last saturday de termine in large part the entrants for the muhlenberg meet the finals in the high hurdles which were not run last week however were run off this past wednesday the event was won by bob good 20 in 20 2 j c markley 23 made 20 a the low hurdles were finished on the same day the results are as follows c sharp 22 f f wright 23 j c markley 23 and talmage 23 the times being 29 29:2 30:1 30:3 respectively a reference to the meet on sat urday several unfortunate errors were evident one due to error on the part of those in charge of the meet and several of a typograph ical nature in the report by the brown and white the distance for the 100-yard dash when re measured was found to be actually 105 yards thus reducing the time from 11:3 to 10:3 the order of finish was as follows : dieffenbach 22 11 3 ; riebe 21 ; karton 20 ; manahan 21 440-yards burgess 23 time 55:2 cornell 23 lagging a little during the past week and no more games have been played there still remain three games in the third round to be played which should have been played last week today is the last day for the play ing of the semi-final games and it seems as though the league will not finish on schedule time it was hoped by those in charge that all games would be played in time for the finals to be staged sometime during the week before junior week that means that some of the fraternities who have not play ed their games within the schedul ed time will have to look into the matter and play them off just as soon as possible it is hoped that the plans of the athletic commit tee can be carried out and that the winner of the league can be an nounced before the students go home for the spring vacation sophomore banquet at kurtz tonight at a meeting of the intercolleg iate aero association held at the american flying club in new york on last saturday lehigh was admitted to membership in that organization in the intercollegiate air race to be held may 7th and bth each college will enter one plane and two pilots the pilots will be chosen by the curtis company from the number sent from each college for the planes are to be obtained from this company al though the course over which the race will take place has not been decided upon as yet it will prob ably extend from mineola to princeton and back again the planes will be j.n.-4d's equipped with curtis ox motors besides the race there will be a sort of field day held at the field in mineola rifle club the lehigh rifle team shot off the last intercollegiate match of the season on wednesday the total team score was somewhat lower than usual though several good in dividual scores were made one of them being the highest of the sea son though the intercollegiates are over lehigh expects to compete in several dual meets two of which will probably amount to a clash with lafayette and rutgers team score lewando 193 ferguson 189 holmes 188 huber 177 voss 176 total 923 the sophomore class will hold its second annual banquet this evening at 7.30 at the kurtz restaurant the committee an nounces that so far only 80 tickets have been sold but that they expect to sell more before this evening so that in all probability a large per centage of the class will be present an excellent program has been arranged and every member of the class who attends is sure to receive his moneys worh the speakers will 1 includle dr drinker captain lang prof bosey reiter prof bowen and prof fox the theta xi orchestra will be present to fur nish the music all men who desire to attend the banquet and who have not as yet secured their tickets should do so as soon as 1 possible tickets are 3.50 and may be purchased from any of the men on the committee i the lehigh tennis team opens its season saturday afternoon when it will meet the strong aggregation representing rutgers while this is the first meet played by the brown and white it is expected to be one of the hardest contested matches of the schedule the university courts are in good condition for early spring playing they have been covered with loam and clay thus putting them in better shape than they were for any previous season the inclemency of the weather has not permitted the team to have any great amount of practice but an initial victory may be anticipat ed the team of four men will be chosen from hall estes mercur beck and warner it will present one of the most formidable line-ups that lehigh has had in the past few years the first of next week an elim ination series will take place for births on the permanent team no men will be permitted on the uni vesity courts in front of the physics building except those on the tennis squad one of the largest events that has ever been staged at lehigh will be staged this year when a huge alumni dinner will be given on june 11th at 7:30 o'clock at the kurtz restaurant in honor of dr h r price 70 the president of the university board of trustees over five hundred alumni are ex pected to be present and by the plans which have been made this dinner will be a marvelous success the entertainment for the banquet is in the hands of professor parke fraim who will select his material from the glee and mandolin clubs and from the variety and spring shows of the mustard and cheese club besides this entertainment which is already provided for there will be a number of speakers of note among whom charles m schwab eng.d hon 14 will be the principal speaker after a rousing big dinner the whole student body is expected to be organized into a monster parade which will leave the campus and go to the kurtz restaurant there they will give a hearty send-off for dr price and after being joined by the alumni will parade through bethlehem the college band has been engaged by the class of 95 to lead the parade and several other bands will probably be on hand to furnish music there will be an abundance of fire-works and torches to add to the general gaiety this parade is expected to be the foundation of a new custom at le high and in its present form is one of the most unique of its kind in the country at no other college is there any such custom as a midnight alumni parade and so by developing this lehigh will have one of the newest affairs in collegiate circles this plan how ever requires the utmost co-opera tion on the part of the student body and these men must take the matter in hand tomorrow the lehigh basebak team journeys to new york to meet the strong fordham nine on ford ham field last week the ford ham team returned from a rather successful southern tour losing only one contest out of five that defeat was administered by the georgetown nine by a close margin and after a hard-fought battle this week the forciham nine met several strong teams after suffering a 11-0 defeat at the hands of the new york giants they op posed the yale and colgate teams after a day's rest they face the lehigh team the victory of the new york giants on monday was a rather easy one and surprised a number of college baseball follow ers the new york pitchers had the whole fordham team at their mercy and let them down with four hits fanning ten in the mean time halloran the right fielder was the only man who connected safely more than once garnering a single and double in four trips to the platter buckley and cousineau were the other two suc cessful batters nehf the giant's premier twirler had no trouble at all with the fordham batters and turned them away from the plate in order on a number of occasions during his stay on the mound only two hits were registered and in addition to that nine men went out by the strike-out route lefevre the fordham third baseman had a big day in the field accepting six put outs and seven assists with only one error in making a survey of the ex cellent work done to date by some of the local artists mention must be made of mathag lehigh's star center fielder who has been lacing the pill extensively during the first three games and now leads the brown and white batters with an average of 545 he has connected with the ball safely on six occasions out of eleven official trips to the plate he also leads the team in runs scored having crossed the platter six times two other men are among the select 300 they are johnny lees and al yap yap has secured four hits out of eleven times at bat for an average of 363 while lees who has only taken part in one game maintains a 500 average with one hit out of two tries u timmy donovan stands next with 250 while beck and rote are tied at 231 lees is at present the leading pitcher with a percentage of 1.000 having won the game with lebanon valley dave pfeiffer stands next with an average of 500 get ting credit for winning the swarth niore game because he was in the box when lehigh scored the five runs and having the loss of the georgetown game counted against him because the winning run
