investigation his subject will probably be with relation to mu nicipal problems of the city miss cassel soprano and mr laub baritone will be the soloists of the evening reunion for all classes this year silver cup presented in name of class of 88 for active alumni membership the postponed founder's day sports will be played tomorrow at 2 o'clock and the basketball game on wednesday of next week owing toithe fact that the mid-year exams are close at hand and the date*on which the sports were to have ben played has been put off from week to week it has been thought advisable to play them soon there has been ample time for preparation on both sides and a close contest is expected the soccer game and the tug of w r ar will take place on saturday the soccer teams will be matched pretty evenly and it is hoped that the mud that has been inches deep will either freeze or dry up before the game there will be fifteen men on a side in the tug of war and there is no reason why every man in both freshman and sophomore classes should not try to do his part in this feature the presidents of both classes appeal to all the men to support their class material is needed and it must be had immediately there is no time to lose if you can do something come out and try numerals will be awarded the men who participate in the sports concert by french army band patriotic program proves inter esting and delightful to those present lehigh is slated to meet the big army team at west point on sat urday afternoon seven players are to make the try and will leave here some time this afternooni to face a hard battle west point it seems is still in the early part of its schedule and although beaten by the city college of new york five last saturday they can boast of a fine team this season coach geary laconically says we'll fight ' ' and has bent all his recent efforts to that end so whatever happens the brown and white team will struggle to the last minute roy has not as yet definitely alumni dues by bringing into , existence a strong class organization an active alumni association will be ob tained there will now be two cups to compete for the eeunion cup and the active membership cup it is interesting to note that the class of 83 which won the reunion cup last year also had the most active members track and relay season now open boxing class started more material sought for the purpose of putting lehigh on the map in track a boxing class was instituted on tuesday of last week and since that time over forty men have come out to learn the old grecian art the work is under the direct super vision of mr bartlett and his two assistants messrs west and john son a new supply of gloves is now on hand and all candidates will soon be supplied it is hoped that lehigh will soon be able to add another spirt to her ever-growing list lehigh opened her wrestling season with a victory over allen town y m c a last wednesday in taylor gym all the bouts were very well contested two of them requiring extra periods be fore a decision was reached childs naame and bertolett made their first varsity appearance in the meet and did very creditably captain brinker of allentown met childs in the 115-pound class neither one was able to gain a de cision at the end of the nine-minute period so two extra three-minute periods were needed both men were so evenly matched that it seemed as if a decision could not be gained in these periods but childs was awarded the decision with an advantage of 1 mm 50 sec in the 125-pound class johnson of allentown scored for ailen town winning the decision with an advantage of 1 mm 15 sec over naame this tied the score 4-4 the 135-pound bout between durner and bertolett required two extra three-minute periods ber tolett seemed to hiave the advant age throughout the bout but the two extra periods made it certain foir bertolettwas awarded the final decision with a 1 mm 25 sec ad vantage with a four-point advantage for lehigh wuerz met jones in the 135-pound bout several times in this bout wuerz had holds 1 which were expected to result in a fall but jones was able to keep from being thrown wuerz was awarded the well-earned decision with a 4.35 ad vantage it seemed as though the meet was going to be won by decisions alone until hollinshead met ger nert in the 145-pound bout hol linshead was aggressive from the start and had a could be secured in the tests was 212 and the highest score made by a lehigh man seems to be 185 this was made by a sophomore many others however came within a point or two and a few points either way isi not significant the m-ajoiity of students seem to fall within the a classy which indicates they should secure 1 superior grades in college if we are to believe the committee on education and special training of the war de partment professor hughes was at pains to show the only scientific way in which such intelligence tests can be built up and standardized and to warn against mmoh advertised schemes which exploit the name of psychology the application of reliable standards to pick the man or woman suited to receive train ing for one type of job or another is in a very elementary state though every year sees an advance in this work he spoke of the well-known biiiet scale which in its applica tion to school children is already of great reliability and service it is quite possible by means of this scale to advise concerning the pro motion of a child or his elimina tion from the ordinary school class by the application of this test assurance is better justified than was the case when we had to depend on observing the results of school training the possibility of selecting dif ferent types of intelligence by means of performance tests of dif ferent kinds was explained these however can only be given indi vidually the army test can be given to a hundred men at a time in 35 minutes but it seems to put a premium upon what we may call verbal intelligence the ability to note recall and use words inithink ing the quick response to prac tical situations and the power to understand and deal with people may be a kind of intelligence that needs few words even in thought and perhaps is often strong when the power of verbal reflection is weak lehigh took moravian college over in a basketball game wednes day night by a 43-23 score lehigh started slow and it of the arts and science club for this year will be held next friday evening january 31 at 8 o'clock in drown hall arrangements are being made for an exceptional program the con tents of which will be in publica tion next w x eek it is hoped that all freshmen 8.a 8.5 and bus ad men turn out to the first meeting of the year the french army band which gave its concert at the high school auditorium monday evening january 20 lived up to its reputa tion the program given was one that gave delight and enjoyment to the music lover the band is composed of veterans of the french army who at the request of their war department have toured america rousing spirit for liberty loans and at present are earning money for french war charities it is conducted by capt fiernand polain who has won the croix de guerre all the musicians are of the highest merit being some of the best artists of france it is said that bethlehem is the first city that has given the veterans their guarantee the
