lehigh to lose prof mckibben underclasses to banquet delaware state game tomorrow price five cents college dance tomorrow middle states races tomorrow vol xxvi no 44 sophomores and freshmen take first steps in preparation for their annual banque s first game after two weeks layoff will find lehigh in fine shape head of c e department re signs from faculty effective sept 1 to go to union coach kanaly to enter good team in meet after very careful selection batting better delaware has had a good team all season and is now in midst of winning streak ten colleges swarthmore meet and recent practices show men to be in good form president farrington has ap pointed the following sophomore banquet committee g d davis e m loeser j c schonhardt w m long and a t wilson who have decided to hold the annual dinner at the hotel allen allen eown pa on wednesday evening may 28 good music speeches food and general good time is plan ned so the only thing remaining to crown the affair with success is a big turn out tickets are only 4 and are obtainable from any of the committee members likewise president glen of the freshman class recently appoint ed the freshman banquet commit tee consisting of the following men d w hopkins chairman s k beatty r dea hughes r w eastman and c p gooding the committee at its first meet ing decided to have the banquet at kurtz's restaurant on friday june bth at 8 p.m subject to the approval of the faculty arrang ments have been made to have an elaborate entertainment by pro fessional talent plenty of ' ' smokes ' ' and ' ' eats ' and a never to-be-forgotten time for every member of the freshman class tickets will be on sale saturday at 4.00 per man and may be ob tained from any of the members of the committee or from m glen e e meeting monday after a two weeks rest the brown and white baseball team will leave tomorrow morning to play the delaware state nine at newark del the return of hot weather has enabled coach keady to put the team through some snappy field ing practice and a decided im provement has been shown in the past few days in the infield while the outfield is once more back to normal shape and with the addition of winterhalter will be little cause for worry the hitting which took such a decided slump in the past few games has also shown marked im provement in this week's batting practice and it is expected that the team average will be considerably boosted after saturday's contest johnson will in all probability be keady s choice to do the twirl ing and with a good hot day _ he is sure to be a winner as he is in ex cellent shape all the soreness hav ing left his arm herrington will not make the trip as he is entered in the middle states intercollegiate races but kline and schneider who have both shown good form behind the bat will be able to take care of that department in satisfactory manner the following men will make the trip delaware has a fairly good team this season and have been playing exceptionally fast ball the last few games having lately defeated ur sinus and university of north carolina johnson and pfeiffer p ; pfeiffer why my boys went to '" lehigh asa phillips 90 en n gineering work at a camp of em barkation cardenas 90 nic aragua captain mccoy 12 ' ' chemical warfare service ; ' ' major paul k johnson 10 the baldheaded major on the right ;" d major harry johnson 97 the 11 baldheaded major on the left 1 barry mohun 96 a few re e marks ' ' and lieutenant mccarthy 17 athletics at lehigh announcement was made at le high university today of the resig nation to take effect september 1 of professor frank p mekibben head of the department of civil engineering at lehigh since 1907 professor mekibben has accepted appointment as professor of civil engineering in union college an important position that will in volve cooperation of the college with several large industrial con cerns in schenectady the resignation of professor me kibben is received with regret by president drinker and the trus tees of the university who haw highly appreciated the service he has rendered as a teacher and as a departmental administrator and also as a public figure along engi neering and shipping lines dur ing his professorship here he has been active in civic affairs of varied character so that his ab sence will be felt in many ways professor mtekibben was gradu ated in 1894 from the massachu setts institute of technology where he took the civil engineer ing course following study at the university of arkansas for three years from 1895 to 1907 he served successfully as instructor assistant professor and associate professor in the department of civil engineering at the massa chusetts institute of technology while there he had engineering ex perience as assistant engineer for the boston elevated railway com pany and the massachusetts rail road commission upon the resignation of dr mansfield merriman as head of the civil engineering department at lehigh university professor me kibben was chosen as his successor and he began work here iv sep tember 1907 under his leader ship the civil engineering depart ment has maintained high stand ards of efficiency and a policy of personal sympathetic contact with the individual student under the direction of professor mekibben a new department a course in ship construction and marine transportation was in augurated at lehigh university the past year this was an out growth of professor mekibben's experience in the shipping field during 1918 as a representative of the united states shipping board be lectured at 45 colleges and technical schools throughout the country on the problems of ship building he also delivered a course of 24 lectures on ship con struction and marine transporta tion at thropp institute of tech nology pasadena california during his years at lehigh pro fessor mekibben has been active as a consulting engineer and as an author in the technical field in 1914-1915 he was consulting engi neer of the pennsylvania state water supply commission and frequently served in a similar capacity for various corporations counties and cities among the writings of professor mekibben are the section on steel construction in the american civil engineer handbook theory continued on fourth page lehigh brown and white bethlehem pa friday may 16 1919

pfeiffer why my boys went to '" lehigh asa phillips 90 en n gineering work at a camp of em barkation cardenas 90 nic aragua captain mccoy 12 ' ' chemical warfare service ; ' ' major paul k johnson 10 the baldheaded major on the right ;" d major harry johnson 97 the 11 baldheaded major on the left 1 barry mohun 96 a few re e marks ' ' and lieutenant mccarthy 17 athletics at lehigh announcement was made at le high university today of the resig nation to take effect september 1 of professor frank p mekibben head of the department of civil engineering at lehigh since 1907 professor mekibben has accepted appointment as professor of civil engineering in union college an important position that will in volve cooperation of the college with several large industrial con cerns in schenectady the resignation of professor me kibben is received with regret by president drinker and the trus tees of the university who haw highly appreciated the service he has rendered as a teacher and as a departmental administrator and also as a public figure along engi neering and shipping lines dur ing his professorship here he has been active in civic affairs of varied character so that his ab sence will be felt in many ways professor mtekibben was gradu ated in 1894 from the massachu setts institute of technology where he took the civil engineer ing course following study at the university of arkansas for three years from 1895 to 1907 he served successfully as instructor assistant professor and associate professor in the department of civil engineering at the massa chusetts institute of technology while there he had engineering ex perience as assistant engineer for the boston elevated railway com pany and the massachusetts rail road commission upon the resignation of dr mansfield merriman as head of the civil engineering department at lehigh university professor me kibben was chosen as his successor and he began work here iv sep tember 1907 under his leader ship the civil engineering depart ment has maintained high stand ards of efficiency and a policy of personal sympathetic contact with the individual student under the direction of professor mekibben a new department a course in ship construction and marine transportation was in augurated at lehigh university the past year this was an out growth of professor mekibben's experience in the shipping field during 1918 as a representative of the united states shipping board be lectured at 45 colleges and technical schools throughout the country on the problems of ship building he also delivered a course of 24 lectures on ship con struction and marine transporta tion at thropp institute of tech nology pasadena california during his years at lehigh pro fessor mekibben has been active as a consulting engineer and as an author in the technical field in 1914-1915 he was consulting engi neer of the pennsylvania state water supply commission and frequently served in a similar capacity for various corporations counties and cities among the writings of professor mekibben are the section on steel construction in the american civil engineer handbook theory continued on fourth page lehigh brown and white bethlehem pa friday may 16 1919 |
