dr chapin leads interesting d s cussion on the aggressiveness of christian faith tomorrow afternoon the wrest ling team will open its season with springfield y m c a col i lege as its opponent the spring ; field team is composed of veterans i last year the lehigh team won every bout but this year there are j several men who have never wrestled in a meet who will have to oppose some springfield veterans the springfield team is sched uled to meet yale harvard brown boston tech and cornell their team will probably consist of the following who have shown very good form this year : 115-pound class — markley 125-pound class — leonard 135-pound class — fowler 145-pound class — heinel 158-pound class — graham 175-pound class — cooper unlimited class — weber this is the same team which came here last year three of the men were substitutes then from the results of the sweater contests it will not be very hard to pick the team which will represent lehigh in the 115-pound class kirk 19 will probably wrestle as second choice clarke 18 will be i taken as he threw hyatt 7o n the contest finals in the 125-pound class mccul lough 17 of last year's team will probably wrestle second choice bevier 19 in the 135-pound class it lies between repa and burgess 145-pound class neubert 158-pound class either parrish or latimer 175-pound class good heavyweight class lies between henderson dayton and justice mustard and cheese chooses tentative cast at a meeting of the combined musical clubs held wednesday afternoon in drown hall it was announced that a concert would be given by the clubs in pottsville on the 17th of february the program of this concert which will be rendered on a satur day evening consists of twelve numbers comprising a pleasing ar rangement of selections by the glee and mandolin clubs together with other special vocal and instru mental numbers as has been the custom heretofore a dance will be held immediately following the concert there is a possibility that a con cert may be arranged for friday evening february 16 in wilkes barre the night before the potts ville concert for the two places could be included in the same trip as for later in the spring it now looks as though a trip to philadel phia baltimore and washington is going to become a reality needless to say there remains very little time for the clubs to get into shape for this concert which is scheduled for the week after the mid-year exams con sequently rehearsals will be held every day during the week begin ning february 12 practice will be held at 4 o'clock on monday tuesday thursday and friday afternoons and at 2 o'clock wed nesday afternoon post cards giving exact date of rehearsals will be sent out to all members of each club so that there may be no doubt as to time of rehearsals the man dolin club will meet in the sigma nu house and the glee club in drown hall as heretofore every member of the clubs realizes without a doubt what it means to work up for a concert in a week's time so not a man should fail to show up for every practice moreover a cut will be made two days before the trip and the method of determining who shall be taken along will be based largely on the attendance at these rehearsals another thing to be remembered is that if this concert proves a success the probability of other concerts and trips will be so ranch the greater prof mckibbfn appointed county supervisor lehigh came back strong after last saturday's defeat iby lafa yette and continued the season's winning streak on the home floor by defeating the juniata five in the best game seen here this year the final score was 35 to 20 but the game was much closer than the score indicates and was hotly con tested by both teams throughout although lehigh led at all times this was juniata s third defeat of the season pittsburgh and perm state each having beaten them while they have victories to their credit against carnegie tech washington and jefferson and lebanon valley the superior team work of the brown and white five was the main factor in defeat ing juniata and likewise the stellar all around playing of kennedy and dynan for the visitors manbeck was the chief scorer throwing seven fouls without a miss and getting two pretty baskets from the floor neither team scored in the first five minutes of play and then mc carthy and kennedy started things off with a goal apiece owing to the clever guarding of wysocki and kennedy the visitors could score only two field goals in this half while lehigh captured eight juniata started off the second half with two field goals and a foul before the brown and white team got started then dynan and crichton came back with two goals apiece and during the rest of the game lehigh had things pretty much her own way - most of the visitors ' goals were made on fairly long shots as their forwards were unable to penetrate lehigh s strong defense around the goal on the other hand lehigh s success was due to the excellent team work and ability to carry the ball down to the goal before shoot ing the features of the game were the playing of kennedy dynan and crichton for lehigh and oiler and manbeck for juniata the line-up follows : continued on fifth page y.m.c.a announcement mr wm m miller interna tional y m c a secretary of the student department in the middle atlantic states will address the y m c a on sunday evening mr cohn 18 banjo mandolin w fitzgerald 19 tenor will also render solos the try-outs for the mustard and cheese production of the fair co-ed have practically come to an end ; as far as the cast positions are concerned on thursday even ing a large number of candidates reported for the final try-outs and a tentative cast was chosen try-outsi this year were con ducted on a new and much superior system every man was given an opportunity to display any special talent that he possessed by recit ing singing or dancing after testing the men irii this way groups of two or three men were assigned an impromptu playlet and were allowed to act out the situations ac cording to their fancy this scheme gave everyone a good opportunity to show his ability and the situa tions were often very cleverly en acted ' the present selection of cast is purely tentative as several changes are likely to be made before the ac tual work of rehearsals is taken up in earnest the prospects for a first-class production look better than ever before as there is a wealth of material to date fifty men have reported asi candidates rehearsals for the chorus will not begin until after the examinations all men who desire to try-out for this branch of the show will report in drown hall at 7:30 monday february 12 the following sophomores have reported as candidates for assist 1 ant manager of the club k m on last wednesday evening the 24th was the aggressiveness of christian faith the discus sion in the various groups brought out many interesting facts and timely admonishments in regard to the power and force of christian faith when this qutlity is once aroused in a man the discussion at one of the fra ternity houses was led by an epis copal clergyman who conducted an unusually interesting meeting en livening the discussion and clear ing up many points of difference by graphic descriptions of his own experiences with men and con ditions upon which the lesson ap plied the price hall meeting was led by dr chapin the subject discussed was the aggressiveness of chris tian faith and dealt with the life and work of adoniram judson adoniram judson who by amazing grit and optimism of where they undertook the ex tremely difficult task of working against the powerful religion of budhism it was seven years until they gained a single convert dur ing those years judson mastered the burmese language translated the entire bible into the language and labored the whole time under suspense and fear of persecution continued on fifth page a college meeting called at the request of dr student-body as fol lows : lehigh now has her chance to do a patriotic service we have had large delegations at all the military training camps for many years and have held a place of dis tinction among other colleges in this respect and now that the con gress is considering a bill for uni versal military training it is up to lehigh to do her part in defending it we are to get ready now not for war but for peace i believe that military training for our nation will not promote war but peace ' ' columbia university has sent a lob to congress saying that she believes that the student-body of america is against prepared ness it has been suggested thatle high send a delegation of men with those of harvard princeton yale and other colleges to washington to show the lawmakers that the students of america are not cow ards and that they believe in uni versal praperedness for their country ' ' w e lewis 15 a second lieu tenant of company m who has just returned from service at the
