senior class meeting lafayette tickets on sale baseball tickets for the first game of the lafayette-lehigh series to be played next saturday afternoon on taylor field are now on sale at the quality shop bethlehem and metzger and young's drug store south bethlehem for 1.00 berks county club a meeting of the berks county club will be held on wednesday at 1:30 p.m in drown hall the election of officers for the coming year will take place beginning on thursday events followed one another with great rapidity continirri on fifth pagu the twenty-third annual athletic carnival held by the university of pennsylvania on franklin field philadelphia and perhaps the last until war clouds blow over took place on friday and saturday april 27 and 28 the crowd was lacking in num bers as compared with yesteryears fourten thousand sat in the stands of historic franklin field a drop of at least thirty per cent from the throng that has attended the gigantic relay games in the past but those who journeyed to the stadium on the w y est bank of the schuylkill saw one of the best car nivals in point of close competition that has been staged since the re lays had their beginning back in 1895 while teams and men entered by 11 of p were victors in several im portant contests it cannot be said that to pennsylvania or even to the east went all the glories geogra phically the distribution was the widest yet seen at a perm meet with the west favoring with most of the stars of yale harvard princeton and cornell out of the meet because of war du ties or the abandonment of athletics at their institutions the field was clear of successful competition by western college athletes from utah entered in the high jump in which herrington 20 lehigh competed came larsen of brigham young university who cleared the . bar at 6 feet 5 3-8 inches shattering all previous rec ords for that event the record be ing formerly held by a cornell rep resentative who cleared 6 feet 5 inches at the perm relays in 1915 the results of this event show first 0 larsen brigham young university 6 feet 5 3-8 inches ; sec ond rue university of kansas 6 feet ; third — herrington lehigh university hughes university of pittsburgh ; trebault university of pennsylvania and haub carnegie tech tied 5 feet 10y 2 inches lar sen s performance was no doubt the most sensational of the meet in the one and two-mile relays university of missouri and notre dame were beaten out in sensa tional finishes by the university of pennsylvania team how r ard berry of u of p en tered in the pentathlon repeated with a feeling that the best method to report its findings to the student body would be by present ing a concrete program the com mittee to investigate new methods for electing a r c ad i a s and the honor court drew t up a short con stitution after a careful study of several constitutions of similar bodies this will be placed before the student body soon based upon the living group plan as in structed at the latest college meet ing the new constitution offers two methods for choosing the honor court by one twelve men are chosen by lot to serve for each case while by the other a permanent body is selected by the president of the assembly the detailed pro visions as to foreman prosecution etc are found in article ix propositions a and b in the early articles the broad duties of the new student assembly chosen by election from the various recognized living groups are de fined this assembly has all the powers of the present arcadia with the right to supervise in a more definite fashion the various college activities by this provision the new body will have the right to prevent the scheduling of too many important meetings for the same date thus giving to the college calendar a more rational and reasonable aspect in regard to col lege affairs frequently two so cieties will plan good meets but the members of one society cannot at tend the meeting of the other be cause his own club is also planning great things this not only limits his opportunity but leads to a sup pression of the sense of the group in interest and in the welfare of many a thing not to be overlooked in a college community for this reason the new clause was inserted though it it stated in broad enough terms to permit the assembly to exercise other powers over such or ganizations in order to keep before them the view of the entire college essentially the living group plan has been adopted calling for the selection of representatives early in may and the organization by the president of the old assembly to be brought about before the end of the week in which the election has taken place this new assembly does not assume any of its powers until after commencement vacan cies and town representation are cared for officers for this as sembly are to serve for one year in order to give unity to the working of the board throughout the year in this the present practice of term selection is regarded as unwise the report of the committee in constitutional form follows : whereas the student body of lehigh university empowered this oontrnttro o.nt fifth page at a meeting of the senior class held yesterday noon it was decided to appoint a man from each course to make a canvass of the men and ascertain how many of the mem bers of the class favor having class day exercises and the number who will be on hand should exercises be held all dues for the four years must be paid to the treasurer j f carlz by may 6 or else the name will not appear on the class tablet the names of the seniors who have not paid their dues to date will ap pear in the friday issue of the brown and white sophomore class meeting for three clays the anxiety and worry of war were put in the back ground and in their place gaiety and pleasure reigned supreme the festivities for the house party guests numbering about one hun dred ended saturday night with the production of the fair co ed by the mustard and cheese dramatic society at the grand opera house south bethlehem and most of the guests had departed by sundiay afternoon the weather though rather chilly the first two days was ideal on saturday and sunday and did not serve in any way to check the gaieties of the week the opening sophomore cotillion club dance proved a brilliant suc cess and the music furnished by market's orchestra of new york surpassed any that has been here this year while drown hall was fittingly decorated with an abund ance of american flags which lent a patriotic and military atmosphere to the dance although the weather was a little cool for baseball a large crowd gathered on taylor field friday afternoon to see the brown andl white nine easily take the carnegie tech team in hand by the score of 5 to 1 in a game that was well played by both teams after the game dancing was en joyed at a tea given at the new home of the chi psi fraternity on the upper campus the junior prom on friday night in drown hall was the next festivity and was attended by about one hundred couples who danced far into the morning to the excel lent music furnished by rushton's orchestra of philadelphia light refreshments were served at inter mission on saturday afternoon many of the guests had an opportunity of witnessing their first lacrosse game which proved to all who attended that this year's team is of the same championship calibre as last year's as they had little trouble in defeat ing the carlisle indians one of the strongest teams in the country by an 8 to 2 score at the close of the game a large crowd attended the tea dansant given at the delta tau delta house the closing event of the short in termission proved to be one of the most enjoyable and the cast of the fair co-ed were welcomed upon the rise of the curtain by a packed house which was enter tained at all times by the pleasing musical comedy which was one of the most attractive and winning productions that has been presented by the mustard and cheese associa tion in some time in conclusion it may safely be said that what junior week lacked in quantity this year owing to the uncertainty of the times it certain ly made up for in quality epitome notice seniors who have not secured their epitomes can get them from r l mccann or w w gilmore an important meeting of the sophomore class will be held on wednesday at noon in packer hall it is important that every member of the class be present at this meeting as matters concerning the calculus cremation will be dis cussed college lecture a lecture on the war for a common future will be given by ernest 11 abbot secretary of the outlook company in packer mej morial chapel friday morning at 11 o clock attendance of students is required the lehigh lacrosse team in its second game of the season defeated the twelve representing the carlisle indians on taylor field last sat urday by the score of 8-2 a hard fought and fast game had been pre dicted no one was disappointed a contest such as had not been seen on the lehigh field for a long long time was waged by the opposing teams although at times the carlisle players showed flashes of brilliancy w t hich for an instant seemed to be wilder the brown and white team and although the lndians defense maintained an almost air-tight guard about their goal still the le high team by hard and consistent work and a fast crushing attack by the mid-field men broke up the of fensive play of the redmen and penetrated their last defenses to the extent of eight goalis all the while holding down the visitors to two tallies a lightning-like start gave the home team an advantage which the dusky warriors from carlisle could not overcome although throughout the game they put up a most deter mined attack and a wonderfully stubborn defense from the first face-up at the center of the field captain jenness lifted the ball out to a teammate and in five seconds from the start ing whistle lewis had the ball within ten yards of the redskins goal his shot went wild and a carlisle defense man recovered the ball back of the goal by fast work and clever passing the indians worked the ball down the field to lehigh s territory where a faulty pass gave the ball to schulz schulz ran the ball the full length of the field and finding the lehigh attack men completely covered he essayed a shot at the goal the ball sped by the goal on the wide shot the play then became more near ly restricted to the mid-field after about three minutes of fast work barclay caught the ball in a play well below the center of the field ran through the carlisle defense and drove the ball past the carlisle goal tender and into the net for le high s first score jesnness practically duplicated barclay's feat a moment later the indians then tightened up their de fense near mid-field and the ball see-sawed back and forth for sev eral minutes a series of short snappy passes gave the ball to lew is in front of the carlisle goal and this time the sturdy little forward made his shot tell jenness again made a fast spurt down the field alden received the pass almost in front of the goal and shot the ball past the goal tender just before he reached the crease the redmen then made one of their frequent drives and by bril liant playing took the ball down towards the lehigh goal an ova tion of cheers greeted tate's clever save when a redskin attempted to score on a ten-yard shot a free throw gave lehigh the ball and after a desperate attack wait pulled down a wild pass and shot a goal from a difficult angle continued on fifth page
