preliminary events scheduled to begin at 10.30 o'clock and finals at 3 as the time for the twelfth bach festival approaches interest in the program to be rendered is in creasing throughout the musical j world as well as locally the fact that the rendition takes place in the university chapel and that a number of the faculty and stu dents sing in the choir and are otherwise identified with the pro duction makes the affair of more than ordinary interest to lehigh men dr j fred wolfe is conductor of the choir friday and satur day june 1 and 2 are the dates of the production the first session will take place at 4 o'clock friday the program for the friday afternoon session opens with a cantata to thee he hath shown man the right way which bach wrote for the eights sunday after trinity there is a great opening chorus followed by a solo with flute obli gate the second number the motet the spirit also helpeth us is the only work of the day that will be sung unaccompanied wonder ful results are being obtained by the choir in rehearsals in the anti phonal effect of the opening double chorus the singers are producing splendidly the power and dignity of this motet from depths of woe i call on thee is the third cantata this is unique in that each voice sings in turn the first line of the initial chorus after the tenor alto and bass voices have sung the soprano comes in with the first line of the chorale melody in notes of double length . the fourth number of the fri day afternoon session is watch ye pray ye a chorus of tre mendous power it is full of the life and vigor of bach continued on fifth page captain elected w m walther 18 who has played a star game on the defense for the past two years has been elected captain of the lacrosse team for next year seniors notice any seniors intending to be present at commencement must be measured for gowns before may 30 at the supply bureau lafayette tomorrow the second game of the lehigh lafayette series will be played to morrow afternoon at 3 o'clock on march field easton the maroon and white combination will make a big effort to even up the series gerard or brown who have not been showing much form this sea son in the box but who have seen service against lehigh in previous years will probably be given the chance to stage a come-back tomor row both are good twirlers when they are working right with the exception of pitcher the same team will represent lafayette as in the opening game the regular line-up will start the game for lehigh with johnson probably in the box varsity tennis team defeats lafayette 96 to hold reunion the brown and white tennis team came back strong from the defeat handed them a few weeks ago by lafayette and succeeded in taking the match played last wed nesday at easton by a score of 5 matches to one the results of the matches are as follows : warner defeated captain pardee 4-6 6-3 8-6 purple defeated meiley 6-4 6-1 johnson lost to hardy 6-3 6-4 coffin defeated hynson 6-3 6-4 coffin and warner defeated pardee and hynson 1-6 6-3 6-2 johnson and purple defeated hardy and meiley 6-0 6-2 recently collected data shows that about 13 per cent of the stu dents enrolled at lehigh this year have volunteered their services to the country every class and every group has its representatives and the branches of service are widely varied the graduating class has sent the largest representation 1919 is second high 1918 next and he present freshman class smallest with thirteen men the officers training camps are the most popular branch of en listment having claimed nineteen men the naval reserve has at tracted the next largest group while the engineering corps has only taken four men the ambu lance corps medical corps and in dustrial reserve have all claimed representatives besides the men listed below there are many more who are unde leted at present and who will doubtless enter some branch of the service after the exams men who have enlisted or contemplate enter ing the service whose names are omitted are urged to notify the managing editor the following is the list of stu dlents who have volunteered for war service by groups and the de partments in which they will en list if they pass their examina tions : from the dormitories j wentz 17 h f mclaughlin 18 ;
