of previous years it will work in conjunction with the officers of the sophomore cotillion club for the cotillion and prom is to be held during junior week april 27 february meeting of civils this thursday upon petition of students resid ing in the smaller dormitory of the university the name has been changed by the board of trustees to ' ' price hall " in a letter to dr drinker and the board of trustees the students presented their objec tion to the name die alte brau erei they asked that it be changed to price hall in honor of dr henry r price c.e 70 was first exhibited in 1867 it completely revolutionized gas engine building engines of this type are highly prized by universities and museums for their historical value and are even imported from europe for the use of such institutions mr krell vice-president of the otto gas en gine works kindly offered the en gine to the university on a recent trip of prof butterfield of the mechanical engineering depart ment to philadelphia though this gas engine is more than forty years old and has been working for more than a genera tion it is still in good working order the engine develops only iy 2 h.p but it weighs nearly a ton the great weight is due to the very slow speed inseparable from its manner of working for this reason and for other reasons such engines could not be built com mercially in this age of fast run ning machinery this type engine was first ex hibited at the paris exposition in 1867 and it completely revolution ized gas engine building realizing exonomies that are not very much exceeded even at the present day its method of working is peculiar the cylinder is vertical and a free piston is projected vertically several feet by the force of the ex plosion doing no work until its downward stroke begins when an automatic friction clutch connects its to the driving shaft gravity and atmospheric pressure then do useful work a gift of considerable historic value has just been received by the mechanical engineering depart ment this is al h.p otto and langen atmospheric gas engine and was donated by the otto gas engine works of philadelphia claxton and lees were seen in lehigli line=up for the first time this season at paris exposition president of the board of trustees as an evidence of the respect and esteem in which the students hold him die alte brauerei has had a glorious history several years ago it was taken over by the university and remodeled into a snug dormi tory the dorm accommodates about forty men tomorrow the basketball game between the lehigh and lafayette fives is due the game was origi nally scheduled for january 15 but was postponed until tomorrow it being satisfactory to both teams this game is to be the first of two with lafayette the second to be played march 1 and as is gen erally known these two games are among the most important of the season the issue is of particular significance this year as the honors were shared evenly last spring each winning one game as for statistics lehigh has a total of 336 points to 251 of her opponents and has won 8 games out of 11 played the eastonians have not been so fortunate win ning four and losing the other six lafayette's opponents have out scored her having 287 to the ma roon's 268 too much reliance can not be placed on these figures as lafayette as a whole has faced teams like swarthmore and prince ton lafayette did not open the season until after christmas so it might be said that lehigh has the advantage of experience the last game both teams played was with the university of pittsburgh le high won over pittsburgh thus putting the brown and white at the head of the pennsylvania inter collegiate league as pittsburgh in turn defeated lafayette and state one significant fact may be added and that is the only team to suc ceed in defeating pittsburgh was lehigh the game will be called at 8 p.m in the armory at easton the team leaves bethlehem on the 7 o'clock bethlehem limited and it is hoped that they will have a suf ficient escort down to easton the leaders of the meetings will be practically the same as last week . the weekly discussion meetings second round of the wilbur cup 3 goals to 1 on saturday at easton the game was played under difficulties a storm of hail driving down the field but it was well played in spite of this lafayette won the toss and decided to play with the wind which was an important factor and for the first 15 minutes forced the play but were unable to score due to the fine playing of rau coffin morrison and barclay in the lat ter part of the first half the play was even the half ending with no score taking advantage of the wind lehigh pressed during the second half and 15 minutes after the re-start claxton taking a well placed pass from clement scored the first goal for lehigh shortly after henderson scored on a pass from lewis lafayette fought hard after this and for the next few minutes forced the pace and finally scored when a high shot fro-.ii dolan found the net gorisse scored the final goal from a corner kick about 5 minutes from the end and the game finished with the ball in lafayette territory lehigh had two new men playing lees and claxton for lafayette gutelius wil liams dolan and freeman played the best game while rau barclay and lewis played best for lehigh the line-up : goals
