under the direction of mr j c cranmer superintendent of buildings and grounds the work of removing the chestnut treet has been going on since last september and by spring there will not be a single tree of this variety either on the campus proper or in sayre park owing to the ravages of the chestnut blight the authorities have been forced to safeguard the re maining trees of the university park by removing any possibility of infection from forty to sixty chestnut trees have been taken down on the campus proper between uni versity avenue and packer ave nut and these will be replaced by several hundred specimens of other varieties the latter will probably be taken entirely from the uni versity arboretum which since its establishment in 1909 has sup plied several thousand trees which
