of princeton univ will speak on student summer camps history of festival and 19 16 program given lehigh uni versity as host from all advance reports the ob servance of the fiftieth anniver sary of the university will be a success in every detail and a record-breaking return of lehigh men is expected strenuous efforts are being made by the local ar rangements committee of which george c beck 03 is chairman to make the jubilee memorable nothing is being left undone to make the stay of the alumni a hos pitable one cards have been sent to the alumni which are being returned to the chairman of arrangements who arranges for cot and locker assignments in the taylor gym nasium no charge for these ac commodations engages rooms for alumni and their wives in hotels or private houses in the bethle hems reserves tickets for the lafa yette baseball game and for the calculus cremation tickets to be called for at the registration office drown memorial hall and answers inquiries as to class re union headquarters reunion ban quets and similar matters it is interesting to note that there is on the local committee a member of every graduating class except 70 73 74 75 81 82 and 00 an interesting feature of the alumni day program on june 3 will be the initial award of the prize donated by the class of 1891 to the class having at the uni versity that day the largest per centage of its living membership the prize is a large silver reunion cup beautifully engraved it will be held by the winner for one year the reunion classes for 1916 are continued on fifth page tomorrow lehigh meets johns hopkins in the second game for the southern division champion ship on taylor field at 4 p m both teams remain unbeaten this season and comparative results show the two fairb/'evenly matched both lehigh and johns hopkins have played stevens institute the former winning by a score of 9-1 and the latter with a score of 14-2 stevens is the only team that the contenders tomorrow have played in common and consequently the one comparative score it will be remembered last year lehigh visited johns hopkins and lost the lacrosse championship of the southern division with the heart-breaking score of 4-5 the brown and white squad have been practicing hard all week in anticipation of the big results that depend on the game tomor row and coach jack grimes ex presses his confidence as to the out come there is some doubt as to whether zollinger or johnston who have bad legs will start the game but otherwise the lineup will probably be tat goal walther point ; kennedy cover point ; green first first attack voshell in home notice electives lehigh meets state on saturday morning at 11 o'clock in the packer memorial chapel the members of the faculty students of the university and residents of the bethlehems will have an opportunity of hear ing major-general leonard wood lecture on why should we be prepared no one has done quite so much as major wood to stir up the nation to the realization of the fact that we must prepare ourselves if we are to maintain our stand among the powers the university is very fortunate in securing this able speaker who at present is commanding the de partment of the east united states army major-general wood has been foremost in advocating the sum mer military camps and lehigh feaels proud that she was one of the first universities to take up this movement the training re ceived at these camps is the preparation of the men of a nation to discharge with reasonable ef ficiency their military duties in case of emergency in his address at columbia university major wood said conditions through out the world for the past several years have been such as to bring before our people the necessity for adequate preparedness yet pre paredness not in violation of the principles on which the republic is founded prof r m mcelroy of prince ton will also give a short talk on the student summer camps prof mcelroy attended the business men's camp at plattsburg last summer and is actively concerned in the military instruction at princeton students in the arts and science course whose work is partly elec tive are asked to note that the elec tives for next term are now due see register page 33 professor blake requests that prompt report of these electives be made freshman banquet the lehigh tennis team will play the perm state tennis team on saurday on the university courts at 2 p m this will be the first match for the state team the same team will play for lehigh that beat syracuse on wednesday concert in allentown organize society on thursday ' may 18 1916 at 8 p m the combined glee and mandolin clubs of the university will give a concert in the chapel of st paul's lutheran church south eighth street allentown pa this will be the final concert of the year and although it is quite some time since the last one was given by the clubs it is expected that this concert will in no way be in ferior to those gi^en during the southern trip last december notice ! catholic university won an up hill game from lehigh wednes day on taylor field by the spore of sto 4 the game was the most thrilling played here this season and spectacular plays and rallies brought the spectators to their feet time and time again in many respects the visitors outplayed le high especially in the field both teams gathered seven hits but le high made two misplays that re sulted in two runs the third inning resulted disnstrously for lehigh as the washington team scored four runs after two men had been retired lehigh made a brave attempt to win the game by coining through with a rally in the sixth which netted three runs after having scored one in the fourth things did not remain even long as catholic scored the victorious run in their half of the seventh lehigh made a valient but futile effort to stave off defeat in the three remaining innings but not a man even reached first both teams failed to score in the first two frames babe twom bly tripled in the first but the next three men were retired leav ing twombly stranded on the far corner the disastrous third hove into sight kilon the first man up flied out to chenoweth johnson singled and cahill walked but ler advanced both men along a base going out rawle to c twombly here the inning should have ended but fishburn mussed up white's roller and johnson scored cahill scored a moment later when lees dropped fish burn's fly shortly after they put on the finishing touches by driving a home run into section b of the stadium rogerh ended the in ning by flying out to yap the visitors collection of senator e r ackerman and lawrence wells new york mr ackerman has a collection of seventy-nine volumes valued at 200,000 the collection of mr wells is valued at 30,000 a gratifying degree of prepared ness for the eleventh bach festi val to be held at lehigh uni versity on may 26 and 27 was manifested at the rehearsal of the bach choir monday evening in the chapel of the moravian seminary and college for women the en tire two-hour period was devoted to the christmas oratorio which is to be given on the first day of the festival each member of the choir re ceived a copy of the earliest edition of the bach booklet an nouncing the approaching festi jval the booklet contains eight pages giving a brief history of the festivals facts about the choir and the conductor comments of eminent critics on the 1915 festi val the 1916 program train ser vice for the festival on the lehigh valley new jersey central and philadelphia and reading rail roads and sections describing le high university the moravian seminary and college for women and the bethlehems as an historic and industriarl community there are half-tone illustrations of johann sebastian bach the bach choir on the study and performance of the choral and other music of johann sebastian bach the most profound and original musical thinker the world has ever seen — the master of masters ' ' festivals were held in the mo ravian church bethlehem in 1900 one day in 1901 three days in 1903 six days in de cember 1904 christmas festival of three days in april 1905 lenten festival of three days in june 1905 easter and as cension festival of three days the festivals were resumed in 1912 when lehigh university ex tended hospitality to the choir the moravian seminary and col lege for women coperating two day renditions were given in packer memorial church on the university campus in may of 1912 1913 1914 and 1915 thus the 1916 festival will be the eleventh the bach festivals have caused bethlehem to be
