on schwab's team program of events students and people of the bethiehems will take the various parts in making everything ready for the shakespearean pageant to be given this afternoon at four o'clock in taylor stadium the tercente nary committee of the bethlehems has spared itself no pains nor labor which could help make the affair a great success through the newspapers of the vicinity the citi zens of the lehigh valley have all been invited to attend this com memoration and if the weather permits the stands of taylor field should be filled to overflowing one thousand participants rep resenting the educational institu tions of the bethleheins and vari ous other organizations will pre sent episodes from the life and plays of shakespeare it has been estimated that the entire number of people connected with the giv ing of the pageant is very close to the thousand mark so the intense interest in the celebration can be fully realized in its conception and ; presenta tion the william estes jr acted as toastmaster afteran elaborate dinner had been served he gave an interesting his tory of the game at lehigh which is as follows the game was first played in 1885 the four classes be ing represented by teams the same year a team which then con sisted of ten men was selected to play stevens lehigh going down to defeat 4-0 in 1890 the uni versity won the intercollegiate championship captained by a k reese in 1893 the brown and white won the amateur champion ship of the united states and again won the intercollegiate title in 1895 91 and 97 after a lapse of eighteen^years the brown and white again came to its own re p eating this year jack grimes the successful coach was then called upon and re sponded giving the reasons for the success of this year's team he said the twelve made up with aggres siveness what it lacked in skill captain green then gave a short talk on the season commenting on the fine spirit shown by all the men in closing he presented coach grimes in behalf of the team with a smoking set as a mark of apprcia tion of his efforts the following guests were then called upon each responding with a short talk dr drinker r w of lacrosse re sulted as follows f w hukill j b jacob s a^ance the elections will be held at the next college meeting shartle-downey seniors notice rehearsals for the second pro duction of the fascinating widow which will be presented by the mustard and cheese club on saturday june 3 in the grand opera house are again in full swing nearly a month had passed since the cast had assembled and the first rehearsal after this lapse of time showed how easily the lines are for gotten with a few more practice performances the club hopes to have the show in shape to surpass the earlier presentation there will be a rehearsal tonight at 7.30 at which the whole play will be gone over in detail every member of cast and chorus is re quested to be at drown hall promptly at this time the 1917 epitome board has awarded the following prizes for art work and for the best collec tion of snapshots submitted by students art prizes — first prize 5 to t s looser 17 ; second prize leather epitome to w a rogers 19 the photography prizes are awarded to d dosch 17 j a fisher 16 and p s justice 17 each one epitome 1918 election the results of the election for assistant managers of fifty trophies the first annual interscholastic track and field meet of lehigh university will lie held on taylor field on saturday may 27 at 2 p m the events are open to all high schools preparatory schools and academies the events will be con ducted under the rules of the i c a a a a with the exception that the twelve-pound hammer and shot will be substituted for the six teen-pound hammer and shot the events will be as follows : track events 1 100-yards dash 2 220-yards dash 3 440-yards run 4 880-yards run n 5 one mile run 6 120-yards high hurdles 7 220-yards low hurdles field events 8 running high jump 9 running broad jump 10 pole vault 11 shot put 12 hammer throw 13 discus throw over fifty silver loving cups have been purchased for prizes these cups have been on exhibition in several nearby cities and will be awarded as follows ten-inch cup for winner of first place in each event seven-inch cup for winner of sec ond place in each event six-inch cup for winner of third place in each event five-inch cup for winner of fourth place in each event in additional to these individual trophies a handsome fifteen-inch cup bearing the university seal will be awarded to the of the various fraternities for luncheon and guests of the uni versity at the commons for dinner in the evening freshman nomination musical clubs elect officers commencement stationery will be distributed at the brown and white room on saturday may 20 from 12 noon until 1 p m to all seniors whose class dues have been paid in full the last opportunity for seniors to be measured for their gowns is saturday may 20 lehigh won a fast game from bethlehem steel nine by the score of 2 to 1 wednesday on taylor field the game was well played and would have been much faster if the wet field had not slowed the players up considerably coach keady shifted his batting order and it appeared to work well yap was put in as lead off man while c twombly went to third position in the list achorn played second in place of chenoweth e twombly dad the twirling for lehigh and pitched a very credit able game barton a former washington american league player did the honors for the steel workers and pitched a good game but did not get the breaks three ex-collegians were in the bethlehem nine's lineup kid o'keefe a former lehigh captain held down the far corner of the diamond eckstrom an old dart mouth man played left field dick wright of lafayette and lehigh fame and also a member of the de fn i ">< v t brooklyn federal league team did the catching lehigh started off soon after their opponents had been retired in their half of the first without a tally by scoring two runs yap singled through short and went to second on fishburn's neat sacrifice babe twombly landed on one of barton's fast ones for a home run into section c rawle went out barton to roth and winter halter ended the inning by popping to sinclair after the first although the brown and white had several chances to score barton tightened in the pinches and not a man reached the home station cy twombly went along finely up to the ninth in the third after the first man walked and the next man singled he pulled out of a tight hole he forced sinclair to hit into his hands and threw him out at first kid o'keefe forced barton who was on third out at home cy had no more trouble except an occasional man on base until the ninth in the ninth after dick wright was retired on strikes for the third time during the matinee roth laced one to the same spot babe twombly had picked out earlier in the game and
