franklin and marshall are downed by the brown and white team to the tune of 12 to 0 cahall plays stellar game exceils at punting passing and open field running — good general grumbach is injured dr chapin entertains number of men at the weekly meeting dr chapin gives talk on charac ter the second regular meeting of the y m c a was held in drown hall on sunday evening dr cha pin a princeton graduate and pres ent pastor of the first presbyterian church of south bethlehem was the speaker of the evening and had for his subject character he opened his talk with the quotation as a man thinketh so is he character according to the speak er is what a man really is and not what he is reputed to be he point ed out that a man's hereditary traits have a great deal to do with the formation of his character and that his environment plays an important part in the building up of his moral and intellectual qualities but fore most that a man's character de pends chiefly upon the man himself dr chapin declared that a man is as a rule what he makes him self in his college days — the decisive period of his life he explained how religion conscientious and clean athletics and faithful study are the means for the development of a strong character finally he advised the freshmen in particular to take a firm christian stand from the very beginning and thereby arm themselves against the many temp tations of college life mr sander who is at the head of the y m c a work at the bethlehem steel company will ad dress the association in drown hall next sunday evening y m c a cabinet meeting the advisability of various plans of action were discussed and it was the earnest belief of all present that this year will be a banner one for the association the help and sup port of every student in the univer sity will be asked and it is hoped that they will all be liberal in their patronage an important meeting o>f the y m c a cabinet the first of the college year was held sunday even ing and was addressed by mr eh lers state student y m c a secretary the outline fdr the coming year was carefully worked over and the several committees were started on their work c l taylor in the east charles l taylor 76 the man who has done so much for lehigh has returned from california where he spent the summer and is stay ing for a short time at lakewood n j preparatory to coming to the university for taylor day on oc tober 17th senior class meeting arcadia elected by student body thirteen men elected at college meeting to form student governing body committees report new rules on hazing and grant ing of numerals submitted afc meeting the second college meeting of the year was held in drown hall last friday morning the most impor tant action of the meeting was the election of the arcadia ; the follow ing men were elected : c s wagner 15 e p humphrey 15 l j buck 15 n m royall 15 h a brown 15 a j wieganld 15 g w hoban 15 g sawtelle 16 a f benson 16 a w chenoweth 16 j m burke 16 e a clare 16 l g mudge 16 the following report submitted by the hazing committee was accepted : 1 any freshman who is invited to go to an authorized hazing party shall go 2 there shall be no paddling nor other hazing that might be injuri ous to the health such hazing to be under the supervision of a commit tee which shall be responsible to the student-body 3 the upper classes as well as the sophomores shall feel it their duty to see that the customs at le high are strictly observed 4 that in addition to the rules prescribed in the handbook the freshmen shall observe the follow ing shall keep their hands out of their potkets and shall at all times carry matches for the use of upper classmen after a lengthy discussion on freshman regulations it was deci ded that freshmen should not be molested on the streets on sunday nights the following report concerning class numerals submitted by the committee on numerals was sent to the athletic committee in the form oi a recommendation : that the men to receive their class numerals shall be the following founder's day sports football : — members of the win ning team who have played at least one quarter and remain out on the varsity squad the remainder of the season baseball : — members of the win ning team who have played at least four innings track : — members of the winning team . in addition : spring baseball freshmen — - members of the team who have played two-thirds of the total num ber of innings cross country : — members of the team who participate in the runs lehigh evening school there will be a meeting of the the brown and white team op ened the football season for lehigh last saturday afternoon in the new taylor stadium by a 12 to 0 victory over franklin and marshall at the start of the game the mass plays of the opponents who outweighed the lehigh team tore consistently through the line and early in the first quarter the ball was advanced to lehigh s one-yard line here the team held fast recovered possession of the ball and from this time on it was lehigh's game cahall was the star of the game with his open-field running for ward-passing and two pretty field goals one from the twenty-yard line in the second quarter and one in the final quarter from the forty yard line for the lancaster team jones was the stellar man he was a big factor in breaking up the brown and white line early in the game and he punted well for le high hoban and campbell in the backfield made big gains ; hallow ell a new man at quarter put up a good game as did good and dela ney on the line the only marring feature of the game was the injury sustained by grumbach who had his arm broken in the last few minutes oi play this injury will most likely keep him out of the game for several weeks the
