submitted by arcadia a bach jr 17 elected from sophomore class as assistant manager of football many likely candidates in both freshman and sophomore classes opponents win in 175-lb class match capt sawtelle and martin win falls an important college meeting the first of the second term was held on friday morning in packer hall and the new system of managerial election was proposed but on mo tion it was decided not to vote on it until the next meeting the res olutions follow : any eligible member of the sophomore class in good stand ing socially and scholastically may become a candidate for as sistant manager of the athletic team from all candidates for assist ant manager of a team the letter mem of that team shall elect three three men having highest num ber of votes to be elected these three men 1 shall be ex amined by the athletic committee as to fitness fitness as regards scholastic standing manager abil ity personality etc the man proving himself to be most fit by this examination shall become assistant manager of that team and shall succeed to the managership at the expiration of his term as assistant manager these rules to go into effect on september ist 1915 a bach jr 17 was elected to the position of assistant manager of football the track season will be opened next saturday when the university relay team runs johns hopkins at the george washington university meet at washington d c candidates for the team have been practicing daily on the board track on taylor field and from all indications lehigh should be repre sented by a fast quartet in the mile relay race this year to date three indoor meets have been definitely arranged ; these are : feb 13th — lehigh runs johns it op kins at george washington university meet at washington d c feb 27th — lehigh runs george town university at georgetown l t miversity meet at washington d c march 13th — lehigh runs lafay ette at the meadowbrook club meet at philadelphia trail races open to all track men will be held on the wednesday or thursday preceding each meet training for the spring dual meets will begin at the close of the indoor season coach connors ar riving march 17th dual meets will be held every wednesday and sat urday from may ist to may 19th inclusive with trail races preceding each meet the spring schedule is appended : saturday may 1st — bucknell at home wednesday may sth — muhlen berg pending saturday may bth — state col lege at state college wednesday may 12th — stevens at home saturday may 15th - - middle states intercollegiates at haver ford wednesday may 19th — lafay ette at home gettysburg 45 lehigh 22 at a meeting of the senior class held immediately after the college meeting the banquet and class day committees were appointed on the banquet committee were bodine g w hoban c i anderson was elected ath letic representative by the juniors at a meeting following the college meeting college dances ( n saturday afternoon in the gymnasium lehigh opened the wrestling season by defeating col umbia by a score of 26 to 5 the lehigh wrestlers showed up excep tionally well in their first meet and from all indications should make a creditable showing in the intercol legiates at the close of the season columbia's score resulted from a fall gained by captain pendleton who last year was intercollegiate champion in the 175-lb class for lehigh martin in the 125 lb class and captain sawtelle in the 158-lb class alone were able to throw their opponents and the latter required the two extra three miniute periods which are given un der the new rulimg under this ruling in the extra periods each wrestler is given the advantage of having his opponent on the mat and in case there is no fall the referee can better make his deci sion the lehigh captain elected to give montgomery the first chance but refused to be thrown in the second period it required just 2 minutes and 29 second's for him to prove his superiority summary 115-lb class — kirkhuff lehigh won 1 from pascarella columbia on aggressiveness 125-lb class — martin lehigh won from aimee columbia in 2 minutes and 34 seconds with a half nelson and body hold 135-11 class — mccullough le high won from shimmon colum bia on aggressiveness 145-lb class — thomas lehigh won from schwann columbia on aggressiveness 158-lb class — captaini sawtelle lehigh won from montgomery columbia in 14 minutes and 29 seconds with a crotch and body hold 175-lb class captain pendleton columbia won from good lehigh in 7 minutes and 11 seconds with a half nelson and body hold heavy-weight class — pons spring sports and baseball in particular the outlook is very promising with eight l men in college and some good new material among the men of last year's team are captain chenoweth who held down day the next game will be played on saturday with the bethlehem reserves manager smith and cap tain henderson urge all candidates and especially the new men to come out every day in a few weeks the first call for candidates for this year's lacrosse will be made the prospects for a winning team seem bright through graduation last year the team lost captain hartdegen fladaway rai nor dunn sanchez white flick and donaldson several of last year's varsity are still in college and with the promising scrubs the coach will have quite a wealth of material at this time the following old men are ready to report : captain buck fred green scruggs w c mayer h fi mayers leonard j riss jay dunbar zollinger ho ban jenness thorpe sexton bal linger peterson priestly hoopes schultz wood h johnson and others at baltimore saturday may 8 — indians at home saturday may 15 — u of p at philadelphia pa pending jack grimes has been engaged to coach the team again this year and will be on hand march 15th champions go to pana ma-pacific exposition under the auspices of the ama teur athletic union of the united states there has been scheduled at the panama-pacific exposition la crosse games to be played by cham pionship teams although at this time it has not been definitely decided just how many and the manner of picking the competing teams yet five days have been set aside for this event last season lehigh was the champion of the southern division of the u s intercollegiate lacros see league just where she will be at the end of this coming season of course depends upon the support this sport receives it seems that to have any chance at all of mak ing this trip lehigh must be cham pion again this means lots of work on lehigh's part for many of the members of the championship team have been lost through grad uation the remainder of the team is preparing to start practice very soon when regular practice is an nounced every candidate must re port for practice every day this is therefore an appeal for all lacrosse men to get together and see this thing through work up an interest among the new men so that they will surely come out for nothing makes so successful a team as a large squad of scrubs civil meet next saturday evening the first of a series of college dances will be held in drown hall van ep's or chestra has been engaged to play for these dances which will be held on february thirteenth april tenth and may eighth the subscription is seventy-five cents but tickets may be purchased for two dollars from the arcadia or the dance committee entitling the purchaser to admission to all three dances these tickets are in terchangeable and can be used by any student of the university physical exercise electrical meet on saturday february 6th the gettysburg basketball team defeat ed lehigh by the score of 45 to 22 the gettysburg five set forth a very skillful exhibition of passing and were very successful in shooting goals from all angles due to the small size of the floor the lehigh quintet could not get their fast team work into play and did little scoring until almost the close of the game captain green of lehigh was the star of the game his close guard ing ciety will hold a monthly meeting on friday evening at 7.45 o'clock excellent talks will be given on sub jects which are unknown at pres ent by a g birdsall 12 and e f weaver 13 the meeting will be followed by the usual good re freshments everybody out ! there will be a regular meeting of the civil engineering society at dr drinker's residence to-morrow evening at eight o'clock the so ciety will be addressed by a promi nent engineer of philadelphia on the subject of city transit sys tems a student paper will be read members of the classes above the freshmen will please note that on ly one hour walking a week credit will be accepted toward physical exercise this does not debar or ganized walking under supervision it is thought that every man able to do so should take advantage of com
