polytechnic institute the afternoon and evening of washington's birthday will see a notable athletic program at the uni versity the lehigh wrestling team will meet penon state at 3 p m and the lehigh basketball team will play lafayette at 8 p m both con tests to take place in the taylor gymnasium mustard and cheese announcement rifle club the second game o-f the series be tween the lehigh and swartbmore basketball teams will be played off to-morrow at 3 p m in taylor gymnasium this game will be hard fought and contested the proof being the score of the last game played at swarthmore which this suggestion to men now in college the idea should appeal particularly the speaker said because they are usu ally in close touch with their pre paratory schools and are acquainted with students there upon whom they have some influence probably no other single factor has such weight im attracting candidates for college as putting before them photographs of an institution's buildings and grounds to win over a young fellow in terested in technical work or in arts and science courses there is usually no more convincing method than to point to pictures of laboratories and buildings lehigh's ivy covered buildings of stone and her terraced campus have the reputation of be ing among the finest in the country and now that such excellent ath letic facilities have been added in taylor gymnasium field house and stadium it seems the part of wise loyalty to continue and to spread the university's reputation in the present generation of pre paratory and high school students in 1907 a large number of framed photogravures showing lehigh's lo cation on south mountain were dis tributed by students and alumni and the presence of these on the avails of schools has probably influenced many young men to come here the 1907 picture does not show the fritz engineering laboratory the taylor gymnasium and stadium and other newer structures and is of course not a faithful representation of le high of to-day twelve prints presenting eight een views of university buildings and grounds are included in a new set that was made up this last fall and winter mounted on a mat measuring 42 inches by 33 inches and framed handsomely in oak they form a picture worthy of lehigh a concern in bethlehem has made a special price of 3.20 each for mounting and framing mr cran mer has agreed to crate the picture for shipment at actual cost so that including expressage to the school designated the total expense will be about 5.00 mr walters announced that on behalf of the university he is heredity this lecture will be open to all the students in the university and it is expected that a large number will be present this sunday mr george w bra den at present from philadelphia but formerly of the occidental col lege of california will address the y m c a meeting in drowns hall at the usual time mr braden is director of in struction at central broad and arch streets and is a teacher at lake george chautauqua besides these several occupations he is the author of health habits mr braden is a very busy man and the y m c a is exceedingly fortu nate in obtaining him for a short talk next sunday it has not been decided what he will speak on but coming from a man in the position of mr g w braden it promises to be interesting to say the least as for the music there have these scores are not offi cial the results of the last shoot show a gain of 18 points over that of last week and proves that the lehigh rifle club is on the go and is going to put up a stiff scrap the only thing that is lacking is men if there is any person in the uni versity who can shoot let him come out on monday evenings at the range in packer hall and he will be assured a fair trial the
