as was natural the initial game in 1884 was with lafayette the lehigh home club is going to pay homage to that team and has selected the night of no vember 19 the eve of the la fayette game for the occasion the members of that team will be guests of honor at a smoker for the alumni a pep meeting chuck full of enter taining features in which the townspeople are invited to take con on page 5 col 5 the lehigh football squad confronts its oldest rival to morrow lith but two men miss ing from the roll martin and wynn both wingmen will not be able to don the uniforms for the great lafayette classic both men were hurt in mid season martin suffering from a broken bone in his leg and wynn from a broken ankle however the rest of the boys are in great shape bill lit tell is fully recovered from his injuries sustained in the buck nell game con on page 6 col 6 tonight lehigh students and grads will gather once more to bring to its highest pitch that far famed lehigh spirit in an ticipation of a glorious victory over lafayette tradition is behind this great classic of the gridiron which makes it almost sacred in the minds and hearts of all lehigh's sons at the smoker tonight in the lower gym the pep and vigor which lehigh is capable of putting forth will go far towards lead ing the big brown team to coveted victory the meeting will be the big con on page 6 col 6 tomorrow for the sixtieth time lehigh will meet lafay ette in the annual gridiron clas sic the two colleges have been opponents on the gridiron over a greater period of time than any other two colleges in the country since 1884 with only one break in 1896 the two teams have met at least once in each of the forty-two years from 1884 until 1901 two games were played each year and in 1891 three were played con on page 6 col 4 in the fifty-nine meetings of the two teams lafayette has coach wendell the rival coaches coach mccracken the rival captains captain kirkleski captain littell maroon tutor successful in bringing lafayette grid ders to fore brovm and white mentor for merly all-american back at harvard lehigh's leader on the grid iron possesses fighting qualities tomorrow the oldest and most bitterly fought football feud of the country will be renewed when the brown and white meets the maroon in the sixtieth annual contest between the rivals this classic is the goal of the entire season and a victory tomorrow would wipe out all the previous defeats and help to atone for the de feats of the past seven years for seven long years lehigh men have been hoping for a vic tory and brown and white players have given every ounce of stamina and fight that they pos essed — only to bow in defeat before the super ior onslaught of the more powerful maroon jer sied players if scores of the previous games of the sea son were any indication it would seem that to morrow will see the culmination of another dis appointing football season but comparative scores mean nothing when lehigh and lafay ette meet on the gridiron the battle is al ways so fiercely waged that neither side can be assured of a victory until the final whistle blows lafayette's record this year is the boast of college hill eight consecutive victories in as many starts places lafayette among the five undefeated teams of the east and a total of 293 points scored as opposed to their opponents 37 points makes the maroon the ranking high scor ing team of the east this is the team that the brown and white warriors with a record of one victory and seven defeats will meet to morrow and give such a battle that the final de cision will be in doubt until the last whistle confidence looms large in easton as is evi denced by the attitude of bill cothran star tackle and leading kicker of the east who was dismissed from the squad this week because of violation of training rules although maroon rooters may have confidence in the superior football ability of their gridmen they realize that football skill is by no means the only con sideration in a lehigh-lafayette contest — it's a question of fight fight fight from the first whistle to the last in spite of the comparative scores coach mccracken also realizes that the game will be no walkover and he has been stren ously drilling his men in preparation for the battle with the exception that behrens will replace cothran at tackle the line-up will prob ably be the pet hob by to beat their elevens with consistency such was the case when he coached at al legheny and he has continued this nefarious practice in the two years that he has tutored the lafayette gridders the scores being 20 to 9 in 1925 and 10 to 0 in 1924 con on page 6 col 1 ) last season's eleven was the best that he ever turned out his team losing only one game and that by one point to w
