of ten pieces a fletcher henderson unit which enjoyed a long run on the strand roof the harmony hounds prom ise to produce melodies which will keep all captivated until the last strains of home sweet home die away at two o'clock lehigh's fair visitors will participate in one of the most elaborate and colorful house parties ever staged from the time that the bright bits of col or first appear on the campus until the last fond goodbyes are whispered they will be whirled through a round of pleasure which will surpass their most fanciful dreams the tea dance at the phi delt house with the cheering and charming music of the le high mountaineers will give the guests their first pleasant thrill at nine o'clock the curtain will be rung up on the feature of the house party the sopho more cotillion the upper gym has been charmingly decorated to represent a woodland scene flowers and leaves have been strewn on white lattice-work lehigh soccerites meet swarthmore busy session for arcadia brown and white should defeat the main line team governing body moves to preserve agreement with lafayette cotillion tonight the sophomore cotillion this year promises to be big ger and better than ever it will be the opening event of house party and will start things off with a grand and glorious whirl at 8 p m this evening extensive decorations are converting the upper gym into a veritable palace of splendor the services of one of fletcher henderson's fa mous recording orchestras have been secured this is probably tlte greatest com bination that has even been secured for an event of this nature refreshments will be served in the usual man ner the subscription is six dollars a couple and four dollars an individual pi delta epsilon pledges seven journalistic society admits men who have credit able records promotions in lehigh's r o t c unit have just been an nounced these advances have come as a result of particularly meritorious work during the first two months of the present term j gordon ridsdale last year commissioned a cadet captain and placed in temporary com mand of the battalion has been promoted to the head of the battalion with the rank of lieu tenant colonel four senior students who held commissions as first lieu tenants when the term opened have been advanced to captain cies and placed in charge of the four companies j a chacey is in command of com pany c w t coombe of company d r j degray company b and f m fisher of company a ifi ad dition to these captains n s spatz holds a like commission being in charge of the ord nance company nine seniors who were sec ond lieutenants have been ele vated to the rank of first lieu tenants these men include six infantry officers and three ord nance officers the infantry promotions were c l smith co d p e ketterer initiation in drown hall eight new men six seniors and two juniors were honored by election to membership fol lowing the initiation a banquet was held in the hotel bethle hem at eight o'clock the members sat down to a delicious dinner after which dr richards spoke he suggested that the lehigh chapter give some memorial in appreciation of dr edward h williams who founded tau beta pi since lehigh is the birthplace of the fraternity professor bradley stoughton of the metallurgy department gave a very interesting talk comparing industry in europe with industry in america pro fessor samuel r shealer of the electrical engineering de partment spoke on the value of broadmindedness and empha sized the importance of being active in later life paul sin well said a few words as the representative of the neo phytes tau beta pi holds two initi ations a year in the spring term a group of juniors is picked from the first eighth of the class based on the scholas tic average up to the first term of the junior year in the fall term a group of seniors is pick ed from the second eighth of the class and one or two jun iors are selected also in order to be elected to membership in tau beta pi it is necessary to be enrolled in an engineering course and to meet the scholarship require ments mentioned above also to take some active part in at least one activity of the uni versity of an athletic or non athletic nature the new members initiated con on page 2 col 3 while the other fraternities at lehigh are enjoying house parties this week-end the del ta theta fraternity will be in stalled as a zeta of the lamb da chi alpha fraternity the present program starts with a smoker on friday night at the chapter house for the benefit of the visiting na tional officers and the members of other chapters who are pres ent there will be a few short speeches by men representing the university the local fra ternity the alumni of the lo cal fraternity and the national fraternity saturday morning will be de voted to business between the two organizations after the rutgers-lehtgh football game the formal installation of the zeta will take place in drown hall immediately after this the group will adjourn to the hotel bethlehem at which place a banquet will be held it is estimated that about 200 men will be present at this af fair including the outside guests after the banquet there will be a regional conclave of the national fraternity which will formally close the instal lation although the delta theta fraternity is a comparatively new organization having been organized in 1922 it has grown rapidly during the last semester it was third only to price hall and section a of taylor hall in scholarship its present active membership is twenty-two students and one faculty member con on page 4 col 3 the lambda chi alpha fra ternity is also a comparatively new organization having been founded in 1909 it now has over seventy chapters in all parts of the country its rapid growth has been a healthy ohe at twelve o'clock tomorrow on taylor field the frosh gridders open their last game of the season it will be against the lafayette yearlings although its season has not been markedly successful the class of 30 has put a team on the field which functioning properly gives an excellent ac count of itself it was severely beaten last week by a team which would be a stiff oppon ent for any freshman team in the country in some respects the defeat accomplished much because it vividly shocked the men to a realization of their shortcomings and this week has seen them earnestly striv ing in preparation for this la fayette game — the game which has been the ultimate goal thru out the season the lafayette frosh have had an extremely successful season being as yet undefeated and from comparative scores of the various games in which they and the home freshmen have participated it appears as if the maroon yearlings would have the edge by a margin of about four touchdowns although the mercersburg game witnessed much rough playing no players were injur ed and this fact combined with the return of twigger who has been out of action because of an injured shoulder galonos who was lost for the best part of the season through the effect of an injured ankle and matt who was recently injured brightens the prospect for tomorrow's game con on page 2 col 3 monday afternoon the team ran through a signal practice and on tuesday the future varsity stars could be seen scrimmaging on the upper field in all the rain and mud wed nesday a light workout was held and thursday and friday afternoons were devoted to the perfection of plays dummy lehigh ' s cross country team primed for intercollegiates most promising squad in years encouraged by defeat ing lafayette and rutgers is aiming at middle atlantic title annual rutgers classic to mark house party week-end at the regular business meet ing of the arcadia held last monday there were several matters of prime importance which were considered and act ed upon the most important of these was the discussion on the methods of advertising the neutrality agreement made with lafayette it was finally de cided that the printing of the agreement in the brown and white together with the distri bution of copies of at at the col lege lecture would insure the cooperation of the students in carrying out its articles a report on the arcadia dance held last saturday was read by the commitee in charge of the affair because of the poor attendance a slight loss was suffered however the profit from the previous dance was sufficient to allay this loss con on page 2 col 6 the commitee on traffic rules for cars on the campus re tomorrow at two o'clock the lehigh booters will kickoff to the swarthmore soccermen on the swarthmore field this game the next to the last of the season brings the lehigh men into the fray with a slight edge on the main line team if comparative scores are a reliable indication swarth more went down to a 2-1 de jfeat before the onslaught of the army booters and the ca dets bowed in defeat to the hard kicking brown and white men by a score of 2-0 con on page 4 col 6 last saturday the home boot ers suffered the sting of defeat administered by the undefeated navy team it was a close game with the men from an napolis finally winning by a 2-1 score all the scoring was done in the first seven minutes of playing after which both sides tightened their defense and although the navy men traditional foes will try to redeem unsuccessful seasons — rutgers is still smarting under last year's trouncing must beat fast runners dr hughes host to robert blake club lehigh has weakened squad red cross drive is successful this year seven schools have again entered full teams in quest of the title alfred la fayette lehigh n y u rut gers and union all participat ed last year but manhattan college a new entry displaces dickinson whose squad is hot competing tomorrow besides there are three individual en tries whose positions will not affect the team score con on page 3 col 4 because of their perfor mances during the present sea son union and n y u are favored to battle for the cham pionship but both alfred and lehigh must be considered ser meet each other the outcome is actually as well as literally in the air until the whistle blows rutgers was the last team against which lehigh has scor ed a victory that was last year when the scarlet was weak and a wet field favored the heavier brown and white aggregation the year before the new brunswick team head ed by the fearful epsilon the national honorary journalistic fraternity this honor is bestowed only upon those men who have done exceptional work in connection with student publications mem bership in pi delta epsilon is nationally recognized as a sign of exceptional journalistic abil ity the men who are elected into this society at the end of their junior or at the begin ning of their senior years are those whose attainments dur ing their careers on the staffs of the various campus publica tions have been outstanding con on page 4 col 6 prof leslie p beebe a new member of the faculty attach ed to the business department was among those pledged yes terday morning prof beebe prior to his becoming connect ed with the faculty of this university was situated at carnegie institute of technol ogy where as the faculty ad viser of the four major campus publications he was extremely active in this line of work he contributed numerous articles to the carnegie tech publications and in various other ways showed his journalistic ability last year the chapter of pi delta epsilon at carnegie in stitute considered him worthy to become a member of their the second meeting of the robert blake society was held monday evening in the home of dr percy hughes head of the department of philosophy psychology and education this gathering was declared by those present to have been one of the most singularly valuable events in the club's history con on page 4 col 3 the speaker of the evening was dr neil carothers head of the course in business ad ministration his talk was en lightening and beneficial as was attested to by the enthu siasm which marked the fol inspired by their great vic tory over both rutgers and la fayette last week the lehigh harriers enter tomorrow's clas sic the annual
