run saturday brings old rivals together engineering courses have long been cramped by restricted quarters and inade quate facilities — if they are to retain their rank equipment for experimentation must be provided includes dances lehigh weakened numerous dances building like design above would cost 1,000,000 bison heavier number of offices classrooms and drawing rooms in williams hall and three small labora tories two in williams hall and the third in the w a wilbur engineering laboratory and power house another factor that augurs ill for the future effectiveness of present facili ties is the fact that the popu larity of the course in electri cal and mechanical engineer ing is rapidly increasing at the present time the total num ber of students in these de partments is 417 or 52 per cent of the college of engin eering and with a greater en rollment conditions will be ev en less favorable obviously such a state of af con on page 4 col 2 nowhere in the university are the needs for additional room and equipment greater said president richards than in the departments of electri cal engineering and mechani cal engineering the department of electrical engineering has been forced to usurp more than its rightful space in the physics and elec trical laboratory x and even by so doing it has in nowise al leviated the cramped conditions of its own laboratories the department of mechanical en gineering has a fairly adequate strong navy team and lehigh meet 0 d k to select members tonight when the arcadia meets on monday night it will be con fronted by the necessity of con sidering several topics of real importance perhaps the one most pertinent at this time to the interests of the university is that which deals with the re lations this year between le high and her rivals from down the river con on page 3 col 1 ) every lehigh student is aw are of the intense spirit of ri valry that exists between the two alma maters especially during the football season al though lehigh and lafayette have striven for supremacy in sports for years this spirit is always most intense on the gridiron however there have been times when in the excite ment of nearing conflicts men lehigh's gridmen will meet in lewisburg tomorrow a very much chastened bucknell team last week the bisons traveled all the way to kansas to come out on the short end of a 36-0 scramble with the haskell in dians the almost unknown tribe of first americans seem ed to have had little difficulty in slaughtering the thunder ing herd from buffalo valley con on page 4 col 6 lehigh's defeat last week at the hands of muhlenberg was little less severe than that of bucknell and this week the brown and white team is out to win on tuesday the var sity started work again after a layoff over sunday and monday light signal drills were held the first part of the week but yesterday the team went thru three seniors will be added to honorary organization brown and white booters and sailors are very evenly matched faculty met last monday afternoon annual y m c a meeting at f & m lehigh will be represent ed at conference of eastern schools discussed establishment of new courses but post poned decision lafayette tickets applications for tickets to the lafayette game are now procurable at the athletic offices in drown hall and must be filed by tomorrow if they are to receive any attention application blanks were sent to the alumni on octo ber 20th and were put be fore the student body on oc tober 28th since then a steady stream of applications has been flooding the of fice students are allowed the privilege of purchasing two first choice seats and as many second choice as they may desire the price of all these seats is 4.00 each one seat in the cheering sec tion is also allotted to each member of the student body there are 6300 seats on the north side of the stadium which are assigned to the le high supporters and in order to get the desired seats all applications must be in the hands of the clerk in the ath letic office by closing time to morrow since those appli cations turned in after that date will not receive any at tention it is necessary to ap ply for tickets immediately a bevy of girls from all over the country will arrive next friday to usher in the house party season on south moun tain at four o'clock friday afternoon will launch the house aside its solemn mien and as sume an air of happiness and gaiety an open tea dance at the phi delta theta house friday afternoon will lauch the house party on its undoubtedly suc cessful way dancing will start at three-thirty and will continue until six-thirty the lehigh mountaineers well known masters of syncopation have been engaged to produce the music for the occasion on friday night the sopho more cotillion will attract all those infected by the lure of the dance lawrence the chair man of the decorating commit tee is working hard to produce for the event a setting of un surpassed magnificence louis buck chairman of the or chestra committee has been in communication with all the lead ing orchestras of the east johnny johnson's club mir ador orchestra from new york is being considered and in all probability will be engaged this dance will be held in the upper gymnasium from nine until two o'clock the rutgers football game saturday afternoon will give the fair visitors a chance to see the team that played a 7-6 game against princeton after the game the upper con on page 3 col 7 tomorrow afternoon at new brunswick n j the cross country team faces a difficult assignment minus three reg ulars and their coach captain aitken and his mates must match strides with the squads representing lafayette and rutgers in the most important meet of the season other than the intercollegiates a week ago the outlook for a brown and white victory was exceedingly bright but develop ments this past week have changed matters barba was forced to give up running for the season when he developed shin splints a week ago coach kanaly was suddenly summoned to a death bed in maine and since then the squad has been dilegently training though without his advice and assistance the strain became too great for laudig whose physical structure is not that of a long-distance runner and on top of all this chickering the first brown and white run ner to finish against princeton left monday afternoon for oil city pa to attend a funeral there is a possibility that he might join the team at new brunswick tomorrow but he would have to compete under the severe handicap of not hav ing trained strictly or partici pated regularly for a week there is more than a chance however that he might emul ate nurmi the incomparable finn by not showing any ill ef fects from the trying journey and by running a stellar race con on page 2 col 5 aitken sames fine lange and roberts constitute a quin interfraternity council meets this week-end lehigh will be represented at the eastern pennsylvania conference of the young men's christian asso ciation by ralph bloor a mem ber of the senior cabinet it was originally planned to hold this annual event at lehigh but the meeting place has been changed to lancaster the lo cation of franklin and mar shall college con on page 4 col 7 the opening session will be gin at four o'clock tomorrow afternoon and about fifty del egates including some faculty representatives are expected to attend discussions relative to the problems of the university associations their activities the faculty held its regular monthly meeting on monday afternoon in the memorial building it was an important meeting in that a number of new courses were proposed for next year these will be voted on at the december meeting the faculty approved the freshman basketball the var sity basketball the varsity swimming and the varsity wrestling schedules as present ed by the committee on ath letics it also approved at this time the scheduling of a base ball game with lafayette on the afternoon of may the twenty eighth this required special legislation because it comes during the examination period con en pag 2 col 3 tomorrow will see the strong lehigh booters of 1926 trying to accomplish what the 1924 and 1925 brown and white soccer men failed to do namely defeat the powerful navy team for the last two years the sailors from annapolis have been rather evenly matched with the home representatives the game last year resulting in only a 2-0 victory for the navy thi year coach carpenter's proteges have reached the peak of their mid-season form just at the time when the navy game is scheduled and the prospects appear bright for av enging last year's defeat this navy game is the hard est one remaining on the sche dule and although both swarth more and lafayette are yet to be meeting of the interfraternity council was held in drown hall the main business of the evening was considering the house at eight o'clock this evening the members of omicron delta kappa will meet in spring when they are still juniors and the remaining three are elected early in the fall the meeting tonight will have as one of its main pur poses the selection of three men who are deemed worthy to
