interfraternity bowl ing season closes navy wins opening game lehigh takes third place regulations govern ing freshmen revised 1915 class holds banquet third annual banquet of the junior class held friday night excellent talks vice-president emery professor franklin and mr walters give toasts the most successful banquet of the class of 1915 was held on fri day last at 8.30 p m at the eagle hotel the attendance was very small only sixty-nine were present but in spite of this the whole affair was a great success the music was furnished by maximilian tosseffer of allentown the violinist accompanied by the piano and cello mr tosseffer is an artist and the music proved to be one of the greatest features being varied from the latest songs to many classical selections the menu which follows shows what the cuisine of the eagle hotel is able to prepare and friday night it was at its best menu oyster cocktail cream of bisque soup fried fillet of sole sauce au tartare pommes au saratoga chips queen olives curled celery sweet gherkins chicken croquette and green peas roast turkey stuffed giblet gravy cranberry sauce asparagus tips whipped potatoes grilled sweet potatoes fruit salad roquefort cheese ii ill's crackers vanilla ice cream assorted cakes cafe noir at eleven o'clock the music was stopped and toastmaster h a brown president of the class rap ped for order after a few very appropriate remarks n m emery was introduced mr emery taking the place of dr drinker spoke on the general conditions around col lege and particularly on the honor system and the student governing system that is in force here following mr emery professor w s franklin was called upon continued on fourth page brown and white wrestlers come in third in letercollegiates thcmas stars for lehigh loses decision in finals after having fought for twenty seven minutes by winning four second places and one third place lehigh obtain ed third position in the intercollegi ate wrestling-meet held in philadel phia last friday and saturday march 27th and 28th the cham pionship of the meet again went to cornell who scored 24 points pennsylvania winning second place with a total of 17 points and lead ing lehigh by only 5 points the standing of the teams and the individual championships are as follows : cornell 24 1 ennsylvania 17 lehigh 12 i rinceton 7 columbia 4 115-lb class w j culbertson cornell 125-lb class boak cornell 135-lb class — sankoff cornell , 145-lb class—allen cornell 158-11 class — gallogly cornell 1754 b class — pendleton col umbia 1 1 eavy weight class — dorizas pennsylvania work of lehigh wrestleks in the 115-lb class kirkhuff lehigh after 8 minutes and 35 sec onds of fine wrestling was thrown by vanßuren princeton martin lehigh after winning from cohen columbia in the pre liminaries was thrown in the finals by boak cornell the holder of last year's title in the 125-lb class thomas lehigh qualified for the finals by defeating tancock prince ton in the 135-lb class in the finals thomas wrestling with san koff cornell gave one of the best exhibitions of wrestling during the meet it was only after 27 minutes one 15-minute period and two extra periods of 6 minutes each that a decision was finally awarded the cornell wrestler in the 158-lb class sawtelle le continued on second page brown and white elections tin brown and white board meeting visited the uni versity on saturday mr pope has been engaged in mining engineer ing in the west since graduation !\. s perry 88 president of harrison bros ik company phila delphia was a visitor at the uni versity last week notice sophomores delta upsilon wins first place with theta xi and sigma nu tie for second the inter - fraternity bowling league has just completed a very s u c c e ssf u 1 s e a son the last few weeks really picked the winner before that time the first place honors were being ably contested for by the delta upsilon theta xi and sigma nu f rat erm ties by a decided spurt delta upsilon clinched first honors while theta xi and sigma nu tied for second pi ace delta upsilon was also success ful in obtaining the highest pin av erage for a team in a single match their winning score being 1890 pins andrews of phi gamma delta won first honors for the single highest score his average for three games being 188 pins unlike previous years a decided interest was taken by all the frater nities and as a result better teams were put on the floor this natu rally led to many close contests some of them being won by only two or three pins what was probably responsible for better interest being shown was the fact that individual as well as team prizes were offered in compe tition this led to better efforts by the individual men the averages for all the teams in the league have not yet been com puted but will probably be ready for publication in the friday issue of the brown and white y m c a meeting last sunday evening in drown hall proi 11 r reiter head of the department of physical educa tion addressed the y m c a his subject was some views on religion in relation to man he first stated the position of the col lege man in regard to religion : the college man who is continually delv ing into science is unsatisfied with the old order of events unsatisfied with the truths that have been es tablished by our ancestors and as a result he is drifting to where he does not know one reason for this is that in our opinion the an cient scientists and philosophers lived in a narrow world and had no broad ideas which might hold in the present world and as time went on science broadened and has been expanding ever since so thai the modern college man has come to a point where he disregards the facts that were established by an cients and desires a broader view what is a solution to this drift ing 111 1 is to teach men how to gel hold of the old conception to lei them investigate and find the truth continued on third page man is not a fallen angel but an lacrosse season opened last saturday with the brown and white playing the navy the game was played in annapolis and on a slippery field the academy men won out 5 to 1 the game was hard fought throughout the teams being more evenly-matched than the score would indicate considering the short time le high has been practicing and the poor weather and resulting poor condition of the field coach at a meeting of the intercollegi ale wrestling association held in philadelphia 1 on saturday the offer of lehigh to entertain the various wrestling teams next year was ac cepted the dates of he matches have not yel been decided ( fficers were elected as foil m president blanchee cornell ; vice president smith i riwcet m ; sec ivi;ti and treasurer vance le high all freshmen regulations made official at college meeting held friday the two leading features of the college meeting on friday morn ing march 27th were a talk by mr r w walters and a discussion of the freshman regulations during which discussion some of the old rules were changed and some new ones were added in his talk mr walters spoke concerning the spirit of lehigh and 1 how this spirit could he used to an advantage lie strongly advocated that each man while at home dur ing the easter vacation interest some friend in selecting lehigh as the institution at which to complete his education he also suggest ed that each man take a lehigh pennant with him and put it up in the high school or preparatory school from which he came all this display of loyalty is hound to rouse the interest of outsiders in our institution mr walters also spoke of the duty of every man to buy his pennants banners etc at the supply bureau for in so doing he will be helping in the up-keep of i rown 1 fall following mr walter's speech came the discussion of the fresh man regulations the following are the revised rules and the new ones adopted in order to avoid embarrassment and the stigma of freshness the freshmen must observe the follow ing rules in the bethlehems : 1 wear the freshmen caps in the bethlehems during the entire year except during the thanksgiv ing christmas and easter holidays between november ist and march 31st the regulation freshmen skat ing cap may be worn 2 not smoke on the campus in cluding the athletic field drown mall locust street above packer avenue and sayre park this does not include rooms in the dormi tories 3 give upper classmen prefer ence in drown hall 4 not sit on any of the walls on the campus 5 not wear prep school uni forms caps or sweaters having in signia upon them throughout the entire year unless such insignia be worn upon the hack 6 not wear varsity uniforms or parts thereof unless supplied with them by manager of the team 7 . not wear college colors before founder's day 8 not wear flannel shirts 9 wear black socks and tie every day 10 freshmen must not go in the rathskeller 11 shall attend cheering practice when called by cheer leaders 12 not wear caps in drown i i all
