continued on fourth page we're the guys the lehigh university rifle club which was organized last spring has been placed upon a working ba sis space has been secured in the basement of packer hall for a gal lery and it is hoped that in a week or ten days the gallery will be ready for use the lehigh university rifle club is affiliated with the national rifle association and expects to enter a team of its best shots in the na tional rifle association's compet itive shoot next spring the national rifle association offers medals for the best shots in the club it also grades the best men who are able to make a cer tain score in competitive shooting as marksmen and sharpshooters awarding medals to these men â– : by virtue of its connection with the national rifle association the members of the college club will be able to get government rifles at or below cost the rifles supplied by the government make excellent game rifles as good or better than many of the higher-priced rifles and they may be had at almost half the cost ammunition is also supplied by the government at cost arrange ments have been made whereby the makers of all the popular arms give a liberal discount to the members of the national rifle association these discounts are available to the members of the lehigh university rifle club the dues will be nom inal all this tends to make rifle shooting a very inexpensive sport it is aimed to make the gallery large enough to accommodate a large number and to keep it open to club members as much as possible if not all the time those interested in rifle-shooting are invited to come to the next meeting of the club membership is open to both faculty and stu dents hustling committee large number of men turn out to compete for places with the founder's day sports only a week ahead unusual activi ty in the athletic line has been dis played by the two lower classes the weather since monday has been favorable for practice in all but base-ball and during the past few days the track and upper ath letic field have been filled every af ternoon with candidates for the va rious teams the freshmen es pecially have shown an earnest de sire to win on founder's day and banish the black tie and black socks it is expected that the full number of base-ball candidates will report next monday the men who are trying out for the sophomore teams are as fol lows : for foot-ball : wood trexler wuchter capt bradley vitz thu.n humphrey wilcox david son bausman sieger buszko frey harder kirby williamson kearney thompson shoemaker stickel zollinger purvis wiegand ballinger and elder for base-ball albrecht capt mitman higgins pearson evans guyer ennis eschbach vance wright miller chandler and wilcox for track murphy morse schuyler berg nicholas norton and keith capt the candidates out for the fresh man teams are the following : for foot-ball : tierney adams carlson greer fair moyer hoops lewis moher goll perry todd reed white gunn thorn ton linesmen : kirkhuff leslie andrews kuhn patterson and richardson back-field for base-ball : wynne clement abbot mchugh hagey sanford gough temp capt and borden infield ;
