as it was impossible to get a speaker for sunday evening it was thought best to take this opportu nity to freely discuss the various plans for the coming year dr drinker prof richards and mr whiteside the new y m c a secretary for this year were pres ent and gave very interesting talks concerning their view-points president finn opened the meet ing by outlining briefly the great field of work that the y m c a previously covered there were men last year who taught the for eigners to speak english besides other advanced work ; also how the y m c a was instrumental in having bible-study classes in the various fraternities and at the dor mitories moreover they were do ing missionary work especially in the juvenile courts ; and by work ing in connection with miss penni man were able to accomplish very pleasing results mr whiteside told of his great hopes for the y m c a here at lehigh he expects to meet every man and get him interested in this work for as he said it is purely a student affair mr whiteside is a graduate of the university of pennsylvania and has had experience not only in y m c a work there but he was at the central philadelphia branch for fourteen months in a few earnest words dr drinker offered to help the organi ation ki any way he could and continued on third page state not admitted through the opposition of cor nell university of pennsylvania and princeton perm state was not admitted to the inter-collegiate as sociation of wrestlers lehigh voted aye on the question perm state had made applica tion at the meeting of the associa tion in new york recently at which manager fahl was lehigh's repre sentative at this meeting the mat ter was referred to the athletic com mittees of the various colleges the vote to be cast two weeks later perm state had a representative at the initial meeting delay because of the general election on tuesday the brown and white could not be delivered to subscribers at the usual time > a bout a day's delay is anticipated the friday issue will however be distributed at the usual time during the lecture period on last friday morning mr george h wirt forest inspector for the for estry commission of pennsylvania spoke before a large assemblage of students in the college chapel on " the pennsylvania forestry re serves the lecture was a care ful account of the various reserves established throughout the k ate and of those projected for the near future a number of lantern slides illustrating tracts of land in the re serves and the different kinds of trees covering them were shown mr wirt with the aid of a large map of the state pointed out the reserves existing in the state with the size and location of each he divided his talk into a number of sections each one being based up on one of the largest reserves the hopkins reserve lying in clinton and centre counties con tains extensive forests of white pine hemlock and hard woods in general this reserve has been in jured greatly by forest fires which have laid bare many thousands of acres in most sections there is no pos sibility of regeneration but the on ly hope is in artificial growth by means of planting the entire re serve is now being improved and fire protection afforded and the construction of roads for access to all parts of the forests is being hur ried along continued on third page minstrel show the final cut for the minstrel show which will be given in drown hall on saturday decem ber 14th has been made this year the club has the benefit of the ex cellent coaching of j e gheen and there is every expectation that the production a call for candidates for the basket-ball team the squad will report at the gymnasium wednesday evening at 7.30 o'clock foot-ball men are not expected to report until after thanksgiving day strict training will be the order given the candi dates as soon as they report for the first practice bring suits on wednesday the lehigh burr is dissatisfied with the small number of candi dates that have reported for the sophomore vacancy there is still ample time for those wishing to do so to report at the burr meeting and enter the competition the time of meeting of the board has been changed from 1.30 p m wednesday to 4.00 p m tuesday this change is permanent and both the board members and candidates are expected to report at the burr room in drown memorial hall the competition for art editor and the brii % work of thorpe who o.ie scored 22 p u s b oso s victory to indians score 34-14 yards for a touchdown thorpe kicked the goal time 3.04 p m garlow downed vela when thorpe kicked to the latter from the indians 35-yard line a double pass flick to pazzetti was good for fifteen yards hoban went through right-tackle for four yards and crichton made five more through left-guard a fifteen-yard penalty for holding however spoil ed crichton's run but a forward pass pazzetti to vela made up all but one yard of the penalty on the next play crichton again regis tered a first down busch downed hoban on the latter's three-yard gain through garlow hoban made two more through center and crich ton added three around large's end at this point a forward pass paz zetti to sautelle brought the ball to the red-skins 8-yard line busch threw flick for no gain but crich ton hit center for two yards calac however threw pazzetti for a two yard loss on the next play with ten yards to gain on a fourth down pazzetti threw a forward pass to hoban and the latter threw himself across the goal for lehigh's first touchdown pazzetti kicked to flick for position and hoban then booted the ball between the posts score 7to 7 time 3.09 p m pazzetti kicked out of bounds and afterward to arcasa whom wylie downed on the indians 30 yard line arcasa made one yard through left-tackle and again three yards more through the same place thorpe made it a first-down on an attempted criss-cross arcasa was thrown for a loss guyon continued on supplement the carlisle indians battled with lehigh on the latter's gridiron sat urday and registered a victory 34 to 14 about five thousand spec tators witnessed the contest the weather was ideal for foot ball being neither too warm for the players nor too cold for the on lookers the field although not dry by any means was not so wet as to seriously handicap either team or appreciably slow down the work of the back-fields and ends the bethlehem steel band of more than a hundred pieces furnished music throughout the game the indians won the toss and thorpe kicked off to pazzetti promptly at 3.00 o'clock the lat ter ran the ball back in good style being thrown at the middle of the field flick advanced the ball two yards crichton added seven before being downed by welsh and the same player made lehigh s initial first down hoban ran five yards through the indians left-tackle but failed to gain on the next play crichton fumbled guyon falling on the ball for the indians thorpe fumbled however on the next play hoban picking up the ball and mak ing a 5-yard gain before he was thrown flick advanced four yards through our right-tackle and pa*z zetti added four welsh tackling crichton again made it a first down hoban was stopped by the indians left-tackle and could add but one yard through the other tackle crichton hit center for four yards with five yards to gain on a fourth down pazzetti attempted a forward pass to vela which
