the expense of the strong rutgers yearlings on foreign soil coaches lewin and mc donald will take with them to new brunswick a much im proved and more confident squad than that which outplay ed perkiomen last saturday the team worked hard this week in preparation for this game a long signal practice was the order on monday and again on wednesday because of the inclement weather condi tions which necessitated indoor work the team performed well in a fierce scrimmage with the varsity on tuesday the line-play was of the stone-wall type ; a frosh touchdown was made on a pass from johnson to davidowitz the latter failing on his kick for the extra point pratt in the act of punting was tackled behind the line by the varsity linemen for a safe ty laßlanc may displace gilbert con on page 2 sports at lehigh and a worthy display of banners and pictures has ac for those students who are not fortunate enough to be able to go to princeton by the auto mobile route tomorrow but who are desirous of seeing the brown and white team clash with bill roper's tigers in the palmer stadium there is the opportunity of making the trip on the railroad con on page 5 col 2 because the trip necessitates changing twice regardless of the road taken between four and five hours must be consum ed in making the journey this will be rather troublesome but the prospect of an exciting and well-fought game besides the opportunity of backing the the deutscher verein last monday evening held its first meeting of the new year the primary purpose of the meet ing was to elect new members since the limit of member ship is twenty there were thir teen men elected to fill vacan cancies of these ten were juniors and three were sen iors the juniors who were elected to membership in the first meeting of the year in the chemistry building last monday night dr ullman introduced the speaker of the evening mr whitney eastman president of the goodrich oil company in wisconsin mr eastman's talk aimed to show the men the great opportunities opened for them in the linseed oil industry he is especially interested in college men due to the fact that he was a former grand presi dent of the sigma phi epsilon fraternity con on page 6 col 7 mr eastman first showed the very small number of com panies that produced linseed the mechanical engineering society held its first meeting of the year last thursday night mr bowler president of the society started the meeting by inviting the industrial engin eers to join the society he then introduced the speaker of the evening mr e h getzoff engineer of the test labora tory of the international motor company who spoke on the subject of gas-electric motors this subject was of special in terest to everyone because it is a new development in the me chanical industry mr getzoff explained the gas-electric motor in detail he then showed the great im portance of this motor if it were fully developed mr getz off pointed out to the mechani cal engineers the great field of opportunities opened to them in this line the meeting was well attend ed with the exception of the freshmen this was probably due to the fact that the upper classmen of the mechanical en gineering course have little op portunity to come in contact with the first year men the members of the society asked that all freshmen come to these meetings as it provides a chance
