( continued from third page the fall meeting of the lehigh valley section of the american chemical society was held in the chemical laboratory on tuesday evening november 12 dr lulmann as chairman op ened the meeting with a few words of greeting officers were elect ed for the ensuing year as follows : chairman dr ullmann ; counsel or mr baker secretary-treasu rer mr beck the chairman introduced prof e.g franklin of the public health and marine hospital service of washington d c and formerly professor of chemistry at leland stanford university prof frank lin gave an experimental paper on the ammonia system of acids bases and salts he called at tention to the striking parallelism between pure water and dry liquid ammonia and described a system of acids bases and salts that he had developed after years of care ful experimentation prof frank lin stated that these substances are related to ammonia just as the or dinary oxygen acids bases and their salts are related to water many elements and compounds behave in ammonia solution just as their an alogue in ammonia of crystaliza in response to a call for candi dates for the wrestling team made by herr 13 captain of the wrest ling team about two dozen old and new men turned out for the first real practice on wednesday after noon at 4 o'clock the freshmen in particular re ported in considerable numbers there being some out for nearly every weight the new men will be obliged to compete with mem bers of last year's team in practi cally every class except the 115 pound class last year captain herr held this position but will this year be unable to make the weight being thereby put into the 125 pound class and thus leaving the 115-pound class open to competi tion among the new men very little can be said concern ing the team except that it is sure to be a very strong one there is good material still working on the foot-ball field and when these men are released after thanksgiving from their duties there the practice will begin in earnest in preparation for the first meet early in febru ary the inter-class meet will prob ably be held about the last of feb ruary senior class meeting concert and dance the second meeting of the wire less club was held in the physics laboratory wednesday afternoon the committee appointed at the last meeting submitted a constitution which they had drawn up this constitution was adopted with slight changes owing to the small num ber of students present it was de cided to postpone the election of officers until friday evening when a meeting will be held jointly with the electrical engineering society y m c a notice at a short meeting of the senior class held in packer hall on wed nesday it was decided it have the class act as a hustling committee in order to increase the attendance at cheering practices it was first planned to have groups of seniors stationed at the various entries in order to collect the men as they left the campus but this was aban doned civil society the first speaker under the new regime with mr whiteside for sun day evening will be dr silas s ness ph d president of the ness college of oratory at philadelphia dr ness is a yale graduate and a teacher of public speaking in four theological seminaries and is there fore well qualified to speak on the subject he has chosen mind de velopment rifle meet the november meeting of the civil engineering society will be held in the physics lecture room at 8 o'clock next monday evening w r hilbert sales manager of the gold schmidt thermit co will give an illustrated lecture on the ther mit process and will perform ex periments to show how the process works out in practice the most important college foot ball games to be played to-morrow are as follows : amherst vs williams at mead ville
