notice a meeting of the student-body was held in packer hall on friday morning to discuss the re-organiza tion of the arcadia the student governing committee a short time after the resigna tion of the old arcadia was accept ed by the student-body a committee was appointed to consider the prob lems connected with the re-organi zation of that body and to make recommendations on the same to the student-body to consider these recommendations was the ob ject of this meeting owing to the importance of the meeting there was a good attendance ; and the discussion was spirited on every point brought up the recommendations adopted read as follows : — 1 that all departments recog nize and abide by the honor sys tem which is to be uniformly ap plied in all cases 2 that all sentences be decided by an honor court which shall re port same to the faculty for its ratification if the faculty disap proves the sentence joint commit tees from the faculty and the hon or court of three members each shall determine the final sentence 3 that all new men entering col lege be personally interviewed by a representative from the faculty and the arcadia who shall explain thor oughly the honor system and its workings before the student signs his name to abide by the rules and regulations of this system another recommendation was presented by the committee slightly increasing the number on the area continued on second page the relay team at penna the 1914 epitome combined with the 1913 class book will be placed on sale in drown hall this week all those who have paid 50 cents on the book need only present the receipt and the remainder of the money to receive this the best e pitome in years tunior prom the junior prom on friday night will start promptly at 8.30 something new is going to be offer ed with the first dance so that it will pay to be there early sub scription 3.50 misfortune seemed to strike le high's team at the intercollegiate relay races held on franklin field last saturday the team was pick ed as a winner before the races and would easily have proved its mettle if h g wylie who ran first had not been so unfortunate as to fall when he had almost finished his quarter he quickly recovered himself but was hopelessly in the rear every man on the team did his best and ran well each man making up some of the lost ground but the lead was too great and fifth place was all that could be taken lehigh was in class five the teams in this class took the follow ing places new york law ist washington and jefferson 2nd dickinson 3rd ; colby 4th lehigh sth time 3.34 notice the lacrosse team lost a hard fought game to johns hopkins on saturday 6to 2 the score does not indicate the closeness of the game for the teams fought through the entire game for every foot of ground the game started with a rush lehigh carrying the ball up the field time after time only to have the shot blocked by the hopkins goal-tender but for the phenome nal work at this position the score undoubtedly would have been in lehigh's favor the first score was made by hopkins after 28 minutes of hard playing and after this two more points were scored in quick succession lehigh then tightened up and there was no more scoring in this half the second half started much as the first but was somewhat rough er during this period both teams suffered from penalties and several players were sent to the side-lines for short periods after 19 min utes of play lehigh shot her first goal when speed made a fast shot from the edge of the crease may er who was put in for sanchez at center followed this with another score which completed lehigh's tal ly in this half hopkins succeeded in making three more goals the score ending 6 to 2 lehigh was decidedly handicap ped by the condition of the field the short thick grass being very slippery this and the wonderful work of sears for hopkins at goal are directly responsible for the defeat the line-up : — hopkins positions lehigh sears goal perkins sutton point . g donaldson marshall . coy point . r.donaldson huck capt ist def raynor liebensperger 2nd def . hartdegen hollyday gillet . . . 3rd def . . . hadaway beatty centre sanchez la motte hollyday 3rd attack dunn tappan 2nd attack . jay capt knipp .... ist attack buck everton mayer la motte . outhome .... white hulburt .... inhome speed goals — la motte 2 knipp 2 hollyday hulburt speed mayer referee — archer turner swarth more goal umpires schmeisser johns hopkins roland lehigh timers — blank johns hopkins riley lehigh time of halves — 35 minutes little trouble was encountered by the tennis team on friday when union college was defeated by the score of 7 to 1 only one match was lost and this proved to be the closest one when douglas ran his man three sets with a deuce set at the end the feature set of the af ternoon was between sheppard and dickinson at the beginning of the contest twenty-two games were required before sheppard finally broke in on his opponent's serve and won the set 12 to 10 in the doubles carpenter and turnbull easily defeated wads worth and woodall but sheppard and douglas were compelled to run off three sets before taking the match from dickinson and how ell the results are as follows : — singles turnbull defeated wadsworth 6-2 6 1 ; sheppard defeated dickinson 12-10 6-0 carpenter defeated how ell 6-0 6-3 woodall defeated douglas 1 - 6 7 - 5 9 - 7 doubles — carpenter and turn bull defeated wadsworth and woodall 6-3,6 - 1 ; sheppard and douglas defeated howell and dick inson 6-4 3-6 6-1 remember that all bureau of self help notes must be in by may ist to be redeemed no notes will be accepted after that date the brown and white lehigh university bethlehem pa tuesday april 29 1913 vol xx recommendations are approved penn state wins game electricals hear prof franklin no 50 in lacrosse committee on reorganization of arcadia submits report at college meeting johns hopkins goal tender keeps score down mayer and speed make the two goals strong baseball team defeats brown and white by small margin score 2-0 assisted by l bradley of minne sota he gives illustrated talk on the cottrell process a small attendance characterized the april meeting of the electrical society held in the physics lecture room on friday night the first part of the evening was spent in deciding upon a more convenient time of meeting than friday tues day evening was set upon as the time for the may meeting professor franklin the principal speaker of the evening selected for his topic the cottrell process and was ably as sis-ted by mr linn bradley of the university of min nesota who is acquainted with the originator of the process mr bradley is at the head of the re search corporation of new york and had brought along a number of slides illustrating the apparatus used by dr cottrell in his new process the cottrell process is an elec trolytic means of disposing of in jurious gases given off by numer ous plants and also for making use of valuable constituents which would otherwise be lost the ap paratus consists essentially of a long tube of conducting material through the axis of which is a wire a high potential is set up between the tube and the wire and the gases are sent through here and continued on second page first tennis match perm state succeeded in defeat ing lehigh in baseball here friday april 25th by the score 2 to 0 the victory was the result of hard fight ing and steadiness on the part of state who seemed to tighten up in the critical moments and spoil le high's chances of scoring the game throughout was close and at every moment there was uncertain ty as to which way the tide would turn although state's two runs came early in the game in the third inning miller receiv ed his base on balls and stole sec ond henderson's hit to left field brought him in and scored the first run in the fourth keller made first on an error by rapp and suc ceeded in stealing second a sacri fice by vogt brought him to third and mckibben brought him home not once after this was state able to score several times the prospects of le high's scoring looked promising but state's consistent playing with the bases full hindered and the at tempts failed this was largely due tomckibben's sensational play ing at short-stop and keller's con sistent work at third in the latter half of the ninth inning mac hardy batted for tapking he made first on a hit to center field and succeed ed in getting to third keady then came to the bat and with two out and a man on third knocked the ball far out into center field this signalled a good lehigh claim to tie up the score but a sensational one hand catch by miller ended the continued on supplement
