in a disappointing game at lan caster on wednesday afternoon franklin and marshall won from lehigh by a score of 1 to 0 the playing was listless throughout the game the poor condition of the grounds and numerous contested decisions of the umpire spoiling what might otherwise have been an interesting contest franklin and marshall scored what proved to be the winning run in the first inning hershey and hostetter were easy outs brenner hit to tapking who overthrew first on the play brenner then stole second and scored on walker's single in nearly every inning lehigh had men on the bases but could not score in the first seventh and ninth especially it seemed as though the brown and white would force one or more runs over the plate on all three occasions the chances were lost through questionable decisions on the part of the student umpire who took the place of f & m's customary official in the ninth lehigh had a man on first and second with one down both men advanced on the next out bell however was called out on strikes continued on fourth page gayley for the lancaster colle gians threw an excellent game for track team meets rutgers saturday y m c a meeting in what is really discussed at the april meeting of the politics club on tuesday evening in drown hall mr l h rupp the district at torney of lehigh county supple mented the discussions given by beers 13 and wheeler 13 con cerning the parcels post frey who was the delegate to the inter collegiate civic league convention held in new york rendered his re port as boyer 13 was unable to be present beers 13 read his paper he said in part : the principal ob jection that has been raised against this movement is that it causes the ruin of the smaller dealer the large mail-order houses will be able to more cheaply distribute their art icles this being of a great benefit only to several large corporations the real cause that has in a meas ure aided the smaller dealer to com pete with these large mercantile houses is the present high express rates again the parcels post would not be self-supporting if last year the united states had a deficit in their post office department how can one then expect them to pay increased expenses when a larger proposition faces them after dividing his discussion into two parts namely its advantages as a service and as a money-saving proposition wheeler said in part : the whole express business of the united states is controlled by four large express companies who have by use of their power overcharged without proportionally bettering the service delays are very frequent and the innumerable complaints against overcharging attest the piti ful service that is given in return further the express companies have declared a dividend of 80 per cent which unquestionably points towards overcharging as a rem edy for this it is suggested that the government should control the rail roads and then establish this postal service which with the trained men which they demand in connec tion with the government's aim to make only 6 per cent on its invest ment would make a very economi cal and efficient system great britain has tried it and last year had a profit of 33,000,000 in supplementing the above state ments mr rupp said : when the legislators get together they do not think of the small store-keeper when they make the laws when a bill which may prove detrimental to its interests is introduced the continued on fourth page elections for officers for next year's senior class will be held at 1 30 o'clock to-morrow afternoon in packer hall only
