tennis supremacy undecided af ter first match the first of the two tennis match es between lehigh and lafayette was played on lehigh's courts on wednesday afternoon and ended in a draw the score being 3to 3 la fayette annexed both the doubles and one single match simpson and murphy had little trouble in defeating griff en and sheppard although the latter two warmed up towards the close and made things interesting griffen's work became still better in the course of his match with murphy which he won after a long deuce set after winning their doubles simpson and murphy both lost their singles turnbull defeating the for mer in straight sets cooper had no trouble with carr while baker although making a good fight a gainst morris weakened towards the last the first doubles was the last and most spectacular match of the meet in this cooper and turnbull pulled up on carr and norris but were unable to forge ahead and the match finally went to the easton ians after three sets two of them deuce a feature of the day was the pretty overhead work of simpson and carr particularly the latter whose smashing was the finest that has been seen on lehigh courts for some time summary : — carr and university bethlehem pa friday may 24 1912 lehigh and lafayette tie vol xix sophomore takes series lehigh downs albright in thirteen innings no 59 assured of first place win inter-class baseball and are muthart invincible at start retires from mound in favor of pazzetti who holds his own in long struggle after thirteen innings of strenu ous baseball lehigh succeeded in downing albright wednesday af ternoon by the score of 7 to 6 the game was played on lehigh field before a good mid-week crowd which cheered continuously during the latter part of the battle weaver and muthart were the opposing pitchers at the start of the game the former however last ed but three innings in*every one of which a lehigh man tallied muthart held the visitors hitless un til the fourth when with one down singles by hershey hummel and weaver together withalbrecht's er ror gave the myerstown collegians a pair of runs muthart finished the inning yost going out on mac hardy's assist to crichton while muthart fanned hartzler for the second time and retired the side pazzetti entered the box in the fifth inning gatch having batted for muthart in lehigh's half of the fourth adams replaced weaver in the beginning of the fourth in ning the latter being shifted to cen ter field in place of yost with adams and pazzetti fling ing neither team scored until the eighth in the fifth adams retired the side on strikes beamsderfer laid one down along the third-base line in the eighth which o'keefe could not possibly have gathered in he reached third on benfer's bunt and scored when schuman sacri ficed to driscoll benfer taking sec ond benfer stole third o'keefe making a brilliant stop of bell's wild heave to catch him hershey flied to albrecht and hummel singled scoring benfer hummel was safe at second and weaver reached first on tapking's error the former tried to score from sec ond on adams's solid single but col lided with o'keefe at third and was barely able to regain the base hartzler fanned ending albright's half of the inning lehigh tied up the score again in her half when with two down mac hardy walked stole second and scored on mccaffrey's single to short center in the tenth both teams tallied and there was no more scoring un til the twelfth benfer singled to left and schuman sacrificed him to second hershey singled to mc caffrey who fumbled the ball long in a very exciting contest the juniors defeated the freshmen in the second game of the series to de cide the championship of the uni versity monday's contest was a pretty pitchers battle between harris and geyer and it would be hard to say who had the better of the argument poor support at critical stages and reckless work on the bases cost the latter the game the juniors were strong on the defensive their one error being due entirely to the poor condition of the infield muthart at first and ev ans at second did excellent work ennis albrecht and vance were the star performers for the lower classmen in the last inning the freshmen nearly tied the score with one down vance singled and stole sec ond uhl fanned ennis sacri ficed vance to third but linke could not connect with harris's
