the flight of time in this case has made history of one of the greatest houseparties ever held at lehigh to say that it was successful in every detail would be putting it mildly for the dances were the largest and most orderly that have ever been held here with the arrival of the first girl on thursday until the de parture of the last on sunday night so many events of pleas urable moment transpired that it is almost impossible to enu merate them first on the pro although outclassing the stevens instiutte lacrosse team with superior stick work and a fast attack the brown and white stick wielders were un able to gain a victory saturday afternoon at hoboken n j the game was snappily played throughout . although all the scoring was done in the first period bornemann steven's goal tender was the individual star of the game time after time he frustrated lehigh's at tempts at scoring goals stev en's defense too was almost impenetrable the final score of the game stood two goals to one captain robinson scored le high's only goal while smith and finsterbusch were the rotarians hear prof w l wilson n y u track meet provides thrills coal processing endorsed by chem's foreign for alumni day are being completed that event this year has an even greater importance to the alumni for it marks the dedication of the new memorial building while this building has been completed for the past year it has never been formally dedicated to the memory of those lehigh men who served their nation at the time of the world war and in whose honor the building was erected the program for alumni day calls for a short business meet ing in the morning and follow ing it at 11 30 memorial hall will be officially presented to the university mr eugene grace president of the board of trustees will make the speech of acceptance in behalf of the university con on page 2 col 3 after the presentation a bronze tablet bearing the names of all lehigh men who fought in the recent war will be un veiled this tablet is to be placed at one end of the large hall in the memorial building and will add dignity to the cor ridors that have been unfur nished for the past year it the freshman baseball team met defeat at the hands of per kiomen last saturday afternoon on taylor field the timely hitting and the uncanny field ing of the visitors enabled them to aggregate nine runs to lehigh's one starting w.ith a home run in the first inning by umholtz the perkiomen team held their lead throughout the game lehigh's only score came in the third when wilson romped across the plate for their with the sub ject coal processing the main object of coal pro cessing as the lecturer point ed out is the production of gas and the various types of pro ducers necessary for this were shown by mr fulweiler point ing out the relative advantages and disadvantages of each he showed a table giving the per centages of gas tar ammonia etc produced from different grades of coal at different tem peratures the relative merits of high and low temperature were discussed from the stand point of the products desired efficiency and economy that there is a real distinction be tween the last two is shown by the fact that low temperature processing which is very effi cient and gets the highest pos sible yield of by-products is industrially uneconomical since there is very little if any mar ket and in england some of these roads are still in use but it is a ques tion as to whether they were built primarily for military or commercial purposes civil engineering is a very broad title and is
