baseball team loses to swarth more in loosely played game lehigh met defeat at the hands of swarthmore on saturday on her home grounds by the score of 9-3 the visitors showed their superior ity over the home team in their ability to bat though it was le high's errors that gave them a chance to make their hits count for runs moore 13 who relieved croll at short in the early part of the game showed up well though it was his first game in this posi tion his regular place being behind the bat poor base running in several instances diminished le high's chances to score the players showed willingness i and ability at all times though a decided lack of the finer points of the game and it is the general opinion that were there a little more efficient coaching system the results might be washington last saturday night the following men all of whom were called upon for speeches represented the university dr h.s drinker prof i a lambert c b lawson g f murnane 11 m riley second championship game lost by lacrosse team in the second championship la crosse game of the season swarth more defeated lehigh last saturday afternoon at swarthmore by a score of 9to 4 swarthmore started off with a rush and after a few minutes of play shot the ball into lehigh s goal for the first tally of the game throughout the re mainder of the iirst half swarth more had things pretty much their own way and at the end of the half the score was in their favor 8-1 in the second half however the lehigh team took a decided brace and succeeded in shooting three goals while swarthmore was able to land only one in the net the feature of the game was the offensive work of swarthmore which the lehigh defense seemed unable to solve until the second half also the stick work of both teams was notable 1911 class election the final elections of the junior class were held last saturday afternoon in saucon hall when the following officers were elected : president d r lowry recording secretary j r dawson athletic com meeting at the regular monthly meeting of the athletic committee held last thursday the following rule was adopted : the monogram l.u b t will be awarded to those men of the base ball team who play in three games during the season the election of c b lawson as captain of the 1910 foot ball team was ratified by the committee haverford tennis meet following out the schedule the tennis team will journey to haver ford on wednesday and play the strong team from that college on monday a captain will be elected and he will select the three men who will represent lehigh against haver ford as it looks at present koch cooper and hardcastle will in all probability be the ones selected significant college meeting plan formulated for improving athletic conditions a most important college meeting was held last friday when many questions of timely importance were brought up and received care ful consideration dr drinker was present by in vitation and among other things spoke on the subject that he has frequently emphasized — the advis ability of men who are taking tech nical courses paying all the atten tion possible to general culture sub jects this view was enforced by william j hiss an alunnus of the university of the class of 95 who holds a prominent position with the american telegraph and telephone company and who was here for the day for conference with certain members of the senior class as to entering the service of his company mr hiss strongly seconded dr drinker's remarks as to the advis ability of a technical man's having also a good all-around general train ing and spoke of the great necessity of engineers being able to talk before business men and municipal bodies that a man's manner his general character and culture were all tell ing factors today in modern busi ness interests mr hiss was greet ed very cordially by the student body who gave him a lehigh cheer at the suggestion of dr drinker president treat appointed a com mittee of u've who will confer with the faculty committee on student activities concerning the success of junior week the following men comprise the students committee l b treat j l mosher 0 s kermey b s r . williams and is j kynor the question of changing or adding to the rules for freshmen as they appear in the y m c a handbook was brought up but it was decided upon motion that the rules
