present practice of obtaining sup plies through coaches be stopped and that all stipplies and equip ment be applied for by the man agers of the various teams physical comfort of the men it is the unanimous opinion of this committee that a doctor should be in attendance at all football and lacrosse games and that a compe tent trainer should be on hand throughout the scholastic year we recommend that training table accommodations be furnished the lacrosse track and football teams and the coaches of the teams be required to eat at their respective tables we suggest that first-class railroad and hotel accommodations be furnished all teams when trav elling and that a trainer accom pany the track lacrosse and foot ball teams on all trips we recommend that the teams on trips leave south bethlehem in ample time to give sufficient rest at place of contest before time of game publicity of athletic committee proceedings it is recommended that an amendment be made to sec 11 page 10 of the athletic committee rules making it possible for a brown and white representative not a member of the committee to attend all meetings and to report at his discretion the transactions of the committee executive com of ath com we feel that the executive com mittee of the athletic committee has acquired power not intended for it and we recommend that its power be curtailed making it a committee to pass upon athletic affairs when college is not in ses sion which was the function for which it was originally created election of managers the following competitive system is j)roposed : a candidate for the assistant managership of a team shall during his sophomore year hand his name personally to the manager of that team four weeks before the close of the season two weeks following the college continued 011 second page fatal sixth gives maroon and white well played game in the best played game of the season lafayette again defeated lehigh on march eield the game was exceptional in many ways demott and long the opposing pitchers held lehigh completely at their mercy demott striking out nine men in four innings a sensational running catch of a foul fly by borden in the third inning was the fielding feature of the game at the bat demott was the star getting a three bagger and two singles wolfram pitched a fine game and the whole brown and white learn played exceptionally well and certainly gave lafayette a run for their money lehigh scored its one in the first eebert got his base on balls after which borden and king promptly struck out fisher was equal to the occasion and poked a swift one to kelly w t ho made a wild heave home trying to catch robert who scored on the play fisher was out trying to get to second lafayette evened things up in their half matson got a base and with two out demott singled and matson scored things ran along smoothly until the sixth with the exception of borden's great catch in the third in the sixth wolfram took a temporary ascension and when the smoke cleared away the score board showed seven runs for lafayette kelly first up got first on olson's error swank also anchored on first as the result of a bib of slow fielding and demott promptly broke up the game by hitting to the right field fence for three bases fager singled and demott scored williams singled and both scored when long met the ball for one bag steckel forced long at second after conover had struck out matson gave one to olson which he couldn't handle and steckel and he worked the double steal to per fection kelly came to bat for the second time and singled past short and steckel and matson scored swank ended the agony by hying to right lehigh s only other chance to score was in the eighth but with continued on third page it is the unanimous opinion of this committee that lehigh s ath letics have suffered through the following agencies i n e'ffi c lent coaching insufficient expenditures for equipment and for the physical comfort of the men lack of pub licity regarding the athletic com mittee proceedings and through the fact that the executive com mittee of the athletic association has acquired powers not intended for it in addition we feel that the present system of electing athletic managers and student representa tives of the athletic committee is not to the best interest of athletics before proceeding with the de tailed report of the committee we wish to say that the recent commu nication received from the pitts burg alumni association contains in a large part the type of instances which have given rise to our criti cisms of present conditions coaching it is the unanimous opinion of this committee that first-class coaching should be furnished all major and minor sports and that no man should be allowed to coach more than one sport in addition we recommend that only yearly contracts be made with coaches it is the unanimous opinion of j this committee that a change of i foot ball coach should be made before next fall 1910 inasmuch as among the students the present coach has not the prestige and confidence necessary for producing a winning team equipment it is the unanimous opinion ot this committee that the football team is properly equipped that the baseball team should be fully i equix>ped with naw uniforms and jerseys each spring and that la crosse track basket ball and gym nasium be likewise fully equipped it is further recommended that this equipment be furnished at the beginning of each season we believe that the proposed changes in expenditures for coach ing and equipment can be made within the limit of our finances we further recommend that the the brown and white lehigh university south bethlehem pa tuesday may 31 1910 no 58 vol xvii lafayette 8 lehigh tennis team wins from swarthmore another victory for tennis team by close score athletic investigation com mittee submits report approved by college at large on last saturday our tennis team journeyed to swarthmore and added another victory to its already splendid record swarthmore's strong team was composed of baker carpenter ayers and boughton while lehigh was represented by cooper koch and hardcastle hardcastle was the only man to win his singles both cooper and koch losing but in the doubles the two latter retrieved themselves by playing a splendid game and that after defeat seemed certain with the first set lost and the score in the second set 5-2 and 30 love only two points being necessary for swarthmore to win the match le high took a brace pulled out of the hole winning this set and also the following set thus bringing us the victory the team will play its final match of the season on wednesday prob ably with columbia away from home summary — singles baker and cooper 6-3 1-6 6-2 won b baker carpenter and koch 6-4 6-3 won by carpenter hasdcastle and ayers 6-3 5-7 6-0 won by hardcastle doubles • cooper and koch vs boughton and baker 4-6 7-5 6-2 won by cooper and koch final score lehigh 3 swarthmore 2 arcadia meeting the last regular meeting of the arcadia was held last thursday night when the members of this year's and next year's organiza tions gathered around the festive board at the sun inn at
