was held ballots for the class book were distributed designs were submitted to the class for a class emblem these designs are now posted on the bulletin board in drown hall senior banquet committee college meeting first of the term held on friday morning the lecture by dr stevenson scheduled for 11.30 a m friday february 1.5 having been post poned on account of the death of the speaker's father a college meet ing was held in stead dr drinker was present and made some remarks he corrected the erroneous opinion concerning the discontinuance of the confer ence school during the second term and stated that this depart ment would be open during the entire school year the recent fire in williams hall due to the care less disposal of a lighted cigarette stump was also spoken of by the president he urged the students to observe the rule forbidding smoking in the buildings so as to make unnecessary any further action in this direction at the close of the last term a number of men were dropped from college and dr drinker explained the rules which serve as a guide for the action taken in such cases these rules may be summarized briefly as follows a student is dropped because he falls below in his studies but only after a care ful consideration of his record by a thorough and capable committee and after he is given a hearing by the said committee after the close of dr drinker's remarks the question of raising the registration fee from 8.00 to 10.00 was considered the advantages of having the increased fee were brought out by a number of stu dents the vote on the question however will be deferred until the students have been able to give the matter some thought presi dent bellis who presided over the meeting called attention to the fact that some of the furnishings in drown hall have been improp erly used and damaged he warned the students against ' rough-hous ing iv that building after the announcement of a glee club and mustard and cheese meeting for saturday february a 84 has been re-elected president of the fifth avenue association of new york city an organization of the property owners of fifth avenue formed for the purpose of realizing the greater fifth avenue it is the aim of the association to consider all questions concerning the betterment and maintenance of this great thoroughfare one of the most famous and magnificent streets of the world noted for the beauty of its residences and commercial edifices and favorably comparing with bond street or regent street in london rue de la paix of paris the ring of vienna and unter den linden of berlin the object of the association which is not at all a political organization ) is to cause the enact ment of municipal regulations to insure safe and easy movement of traffic along this avenue and to adopt methods to conserve the pleasure comfort convenience and safety of people having business along the street the association is particularly interested in the artistic develop ment of fifth avenue and although a comparatively young organization it has taken its place as one of the city's civic organizations the re election of mr cooke to the presidency of this association is a well deserved honor in recog nition of his labors to advance the policy of the association lincoln's birthday celebration general w e doster of bethle hem will deliver an address on the 100 th auniveisary of the birth of abraham lincoln at lehigh uni versity on friday morning febru ary 12th at 11.30 o'clock the exercises will be held in the packer memorial church these exercises taking the place of the usual lecture hour general doster is peculiarly fit ted to deliver this commemorative oration on account of his personal acquaintance with lincoln and his residence in washington during lincoln's administration when he was officially connected with the war department being provost marshal of i he city of washington from march 1862 to march 1863 during this time general doster was obliged to report daily in per son to the secretary of war edwin stanton and thus obtained an inti mate knowledge of the condition of affairs at that time he was also an intimate friend of president lincoln's secretaries and biograph ers hay and niolay maintaining this intimacy up to the time of their dealhs lacrosse tea m — practices every wednesday and saturday afternoons at 2 o'clock in the cage gymnasium team — practices every monday wednesday and friday afternoons at 4 o'clock mustard and cheese a spirited rehearsal of the candi dates for the chorus of the mustard and cheese was held in drown hall on
