team future admirals take every first and one second with about 60 members c schaub and smith high scorers rule flashes unusual aspect saturday afternoon in taylor gym saw the lehigh wrestling team go down in their second defeat of the season before the powerful navy grapplers by a 15 1-2 to 11 1-2 score the middies won three bouts two by a fall and one by a decision the brown and white garnered theif points on three decisions perhaps the greatest upset of the wrestling season came in the 125-lb class when captain best met his first defeat in four teen starts he was beaten by nichols of the navy on decision in a bout which went two ex tra periods and was replete with thrills from start to finish the lehigh captain had not been de feated since his bout with tim erlake of the navy last season tively close score of 31-22 con on page 2 col 5 starting off with schuylkill lehigh easily took the oppon ents into camp and then added the scalp of princeton to their belts before the christmas vaca tion set in slightly out of form and fresh from the laxness of the vacation the next game was dropped to the army from that time on however their slate is clean twice muhlenberg drop ped before the brilliant lehigh team both times by fairly large scores and twice lehigh hum bled the quintette from rutgers also by one-sided counts the fordham game proved a thrill er however and it was only a one-point lead after an extra five-minute period had been when the brown and white basketball team defeated the la fayette team for the third con secutive time this year it com pleted the most successful sea son any lehigh quintette has ever enjoyed on the court with a record of thirteen games won out of fourteen played during which time the lehigh aggrega tion met some of the prizes for the three best technical papers presented to them the contest is open to members of the lehigh and la fayette student chapters professor winter l wilson then • introduced the speaker of the evening mr longstreet di vision engineer of the penna state highway department mr longstreet gave a very interest ing talk on the importance of good highways and the organ ization and work of the state highway department of penn sylvania it is only of latter years that the state has really recognized the importance of its highway system this fact is illustrated has lehigh's wrestling coach won many trophies and medals for the answer to this question look at the accompanying photo graph the exact number of prizes which he has won is not definitely known and they could not all be crowded into this pic ture but those shown are suffi cient evidence of his ability the belt represents the scotch cham pionship in the 133 pound class as anyone who heard him speak could surmise billy sher idan is a native scotchman and according to his own statement learned the gentle art of grap pling purely by accident this accident the nature of which is unknown resulted in his holding the featherweight and lightweight titles of scotland for five years 1904-1908 dur ing his entire wrestling career once it got started he never lost a bout the picture was taken on march 27 1908 just prior to his sailing to canada at which time he turned profes sional after spending a short time in canada he came down to philadelphia to open a physical training school and to learn box ing he was only in philadel phia a few weeks when he wan dered out to the perm gymna sium and his natural liking for wrestling lead him instinctively into the wrestling room while watching the practice he noticed a man using a hold which was barred and he called him for it of course the youth wanted to know what he knew about it and it was finally decided that the best way for sheridan to prove what he knew was to get a suit on evening mr longstreet di vision engineer of the penna state highway department mr longstreet gave a very interest ing talk on the importance of good highways and the organ ization and work of the
