base ball game — lehigh vs swarthmore on lehigh field sat urday afternoon april 24th at 3 o'clock lehigh avas defeated in the second lacrosse game of the season by a score of 7 to 1 at bay ridge last saturday by the crescent athletic club this was more of a practice game and the lehigh team went more with the idea of playing them than beating them the men on the crescent team have played lacrosse for 15 or 20 years and have a wide reputation our team as a whole played a very good game the defense was strong and every point the opponents made was well earned lehigh had numerous chances at goal but the crescent's goal tender was very good and only one got past him this being scored by rowan in the second half our men were very pleasantly entertained at the club saturday afternoon and night the lineup crescents position lehigh rose goal gonzales moses point g orman maddern cover point brumbaugh dobby first defense arch er keiley second defense luckie liffiton third defense zouck shirreff centre phillippi lucker third attack . osbourne simpson second attack rowan mclntyre first attack mccoy wall out home lesher o'rourke in home ... harrower goals wall 3 lucker 2 simpson 1 liffiton 1 rowan 1 referee — mr decasanova lehigh opened her base ball sea son on wednesday afternoon april 7 with a 5 to 4 victory over rutgers in a hard fought thirteen inning game the attendance was large considering that many of the students left for home to spend their easter vacation coach by dickson tried out a large number of men and all filled their respective positions well the main feature of the game was rose's home run over right field fence in the second inning serfass weakened and together with poor support rutgers secured three runs bason replaced serfass in the fourth after the last friday the 16th by mr gilbert mcclurg mr mcclurg chose as his subject '' texas and his manner of de livery and his frequent humorous sallies won much applause the history of the lone star state was dwelt upon at length as were the achievements of her many brave men her missions and the man ner of their building were discussed and the founding of her cities was an interesting point the texan rebellion the fight and the massacre of the alamo and the final triumph over santa anna and his hordes of mexicans were all explained in detail in short the entire career of texas under her six flags the spanish the french the mexican the lone star the stars and bars and old glory was described in the most vivid manner her natural re sources her climate and land area showed a modern eden the numerous and excellent views of texas aided greatly in making the lecture realistic all in all nothing but praise can be given to the lecture and the thanks and appreciation of the student body to mr societies to expend the gift of mr carnegie of 1,500,000 for a united engineers building and the engineers club in new york city he has written several books and contributed to magazines numerous articles on electrical engineering notice at 3 o'clock next thursday after noon april 22 in the physics lecture room mr alexander potter will give an illustrated lecture on european sewage purification methods mr potter is a graduate of lehigh class of 1890 and is one of the best known hydraulic and sanitary engineers in the united states he recently returned from europe where he made an exhaustive study of sew age disposal members of the junior and senior classes are invit ed to be present by superior work in the field and at the bat lehigh won her second base ball contest on satur day afternoon april 10 by defeat ing c c n y 9 to 2 brown's pitching was rather effective up to the sixth inning when lehigh solved his delivery for a total of four runs in that inning securing
