show rap idly approaching many changes have taken place in the develop ment of the material for both the cast and the chorus mr ned wayburn the famous mu sical comedy director was in bethlehem on march 7 and spent the entire day holding try outs and in going over the pro duction as he will put it on in the afternoon more than a hun dred men were given individual trials and thorough examina tions in the footwork and tech nique of amateur stage dancing the results of these tryouts are as yet undecided but they will be ready for publication within the next few days con on page 3 col 2 from the standpoint of direc tion this year's show should surpass even the wildest antici pations of its enthusiastic sup porters mr wayburn who is the originator of the charleston in the finer form is one of the best known dancing instructors in the country and has undoubt edly helped more present day musical comedy stars up the lad der to fame than any other one man in his studio in new york some of the most famous dane a system of intra-mural sports as elaborate as that of any university or college in the country is being planned for lehigh this spring under the supervision of professor bart lett lehigh's gym instructor competition in every branch of gymnasium work and all forms of sports will take place in the schedule of events now being arranged there will be class events course and individual events and prizes will be award ed to the winners in each the following outline furnishes somewhat of an idea of what the system will be like a bronze medal will be ward ed to the individual in each class that is freshman sophomore junior and senior who has the most perfect posture a bronze medal will be given to the winners of the following events rope climbing standing broad jump pull-ups push-ups bar vaulting and buck vaulting the two most perfect men in each class as regards physical development and health condi tions will be awarded medals a silver medal for the first of consecutive ab sences from all classes extending over two full weeks twelve consecutive days of instruction or more and b in the case of absence from a scheduled or an nounced quiz provided that in this case the student's applica tion must be recommended by the head of the department con cerned excuses will be grant ed also for all absences in curred on account of inspection trips or of other similar groups officially representing the university and trips of athletic teams on presentation of such excuses to the department heads opportunity will be giv en to make up the work which the student has missed by spe cial quizzes special reports or otherwise as the head of the de partment may prescribe ; and the grades received on the make up work will be substituted in such cases for the grades of e and f recorded at the time of absence rule 54 amended to read as follows if a student appears to be neglecting the work in any course the head of the depart ment concerned shall notify the dean who after one warning may exclude the student from the work which he has been ne glecting ; and a student who per sistently absents himself from any course may be excluded from that course 0 the most famous dane a system of intra-mural sports as elaborate as that of any university or college in the country is being planned for lehigh this spring under the supervision of professor bart lett lehigh's gym instructor competition in every branch of gymnasium work and all forms of sports will take place in the schedule of events now being arranged there will be class events course and individual events and prizes will be award ed to the winners in each the following outline furnishes somewhat of an idea of what the system will be like a bronze medal will be ward ed to the individual in each class that is freshman sophomore junior and senior who has the most perfect posture a bronze medal will be given to the winners of the following events rope climbing standing broad jump pull-ups push-ups bar vaulting and buck vaulting the two most perfect men in each class as regards physical development and health condi tions will be awarded medals a silver medal for the first prize and a bronze medal for the sec ond prize con on page 4 col 6 an inter-course relay will be held on the track this spring frosh grapplers suffer first de feat at cornell ithacans nose out b & w yearlings by 14-13 score the lehigh frosh displayed their best swimming form of the season when they held the strong mercersburg team na tional interscholastic champions to a 37-2 7 victory the frosh won four first places out of sev en events bannister with vic tories in the 50 and 100 yard dash was the individual star of the meet con on page 3 col 2 webb won the 220 for the frosh in good time bannister was hard pressed by mclaugh mercersburg had little trou ble in capturing the 200 yard relay blood of lehigh cap tured the dive he displayed fine form in doing so bannist er won the fifty in 27 seconds by recent action of the fac ulty the following new and amended rules have gone into effect rule 53 amended to read as follows a student may apply to the dean for an excuse : a in the case of consecutive ab sences from all classes extending over two full weeks twelve consecutive days of instruction or more and b in the case of absence from a scheduled or an nounced quiz provided that in this case the student's applica tion must be recommended by the head of the department con cerned excuses will be grant ed also for all absences in curred on account of inspection trips or of other similar groups officially representing the university and trips of athletic teams on presentation of such excuses to the department heads opportunity will be giv en to make up the work which the student has missed by spe cial quizzes special reports or otherwise as the head of the de partment may prescribe ; and the grades received on the make up work will be substituted in such cases for the grades of e and f recorded at the time of absence rule 54 amended to read as follows if a student appears to be neglecting the work in any course the head of the depart ment concerned shall notify the dean who after one warning may exclude the student from the work which he has been ne glecting ; and a student who per sistently absents himself from any course may be excluded from that course 0 after one warning by the dean a stu dent excluded from any course under this rule shall be placed on probation and a student thus excluded from a second course shall be automatically dropped from the university con on page 3 col 4 rule 56 amended to read as follows a sophomore junior or senior who fails in any term to pass at least 9 credit hours in academic subjects exclusive of physical other in the two games play ed this year the lehigh frosh showed their superiority over their rivals by their decisive win on saturday con on page 4 col 3 lehigh got off to a good start scoring eight
